DMC4 for Xbox 360 outsells PS3 in UK

It's been said that the most important thing in this generation of hardware is exclusive software that helps differentiate one console from another. While Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony have had their share of exclusive third-party titles (of varying quality) the most talked about issues stem from titles going multiplatform. Such was the case for Devil May Cry 4, which when announced for the Xbox 360 and PC sent Sony loyalists into a maddening spiral of rage. The incentive for publishers to distribute once exclusive titles across multiple platforms opens the flood gates of potential profits (Read: monies) and that excuse seems to be paying off for Capcom.

According to a report from Gamesindustry.biz the initial sales figures of DMC4 favor the Xbox 360 version in the UK claiming 61% of the title's total software launch sales while Sony ~~and the PC share the~~ claims the remaining 39%. While we think it's great to have quality releases from Capcom in this generation for the Xbox we doubt anything they do can ever make up for Dino Crisis 3.

Update: Whoops, the PC version hasn't been released.

who cares who outsells who? Ninja Gaiden 2 will outsell both DMC4 sales, if the original NG didn't do that already...

What I love is how everyone that likes NG automatically feels the need to hate on DMC even though without DMC there would be no NG.

Yeah both of u are right but thats not the point...THe point is Sony fans complained there ass off but the 360 version is gonna rape it in sales because they can't even afford the system the system they're tryin to play it on....I'm not tryin to sound like a fanboy but they pissed me off with that petition becuz capcom isn't even owned by Sony! I hope the 360 version outsales it by 3:1

Hardly suprising given that the standard and limited edition versions were availible online for £29.99 whilst the PS3 was £39.99.

That and the APs, pay £10 less and get the LTD and APs, or £10 more for the same with no APs.

Tekken has been quite shit over the last few years. The best are 2 and of course 3. I doubt the 360 would ever get this, becasue we have Tecmo (DOA), fake Namco.

You guys are forgetting one fact, Tekken is a slow, clumsy fighter with pre set combos that must be tapped out in a guitar hero fashion. Whereas DOA is fast, fun, and leaves plenty of room for originality in its matches. So basically, Sony can have Tekken.

wiil NG2 really sell that much? Also it's good to see the 360 is getting some regular sony fans to buy the 360 version. I just pray they fix thier damn console then it's plain sailing.

Well Ninja Gaiden Black did well over a million copies so I expect M$ to do some extreme marketing for this game...Since it's their premiere action title

not really a dmc fan but good news non the less, I want capcom to put clover studios back together.

Well considering there's mroe 360's in the Uk right now, it SHOULD outsell it, but then Sony could just say in japan it held a tremendouns 95/5 share of DMC 4.

Either way, do they have any actual numbers? cuz vgchartz has it at 90k vs 86k for "others" (which includes all of europe and not just UK i believe).

Where as in japan at launch, it was near 210k for DMC4 on PS3.

It'll be interesting to see overalls however, but logic would tell me that it would end up selling more on 360, due to the 6.5million or so console lead.

That doesn't mean people have to go buy it....lol...The perception is Western gamers wouldn't play DMC...So if the 360 version does sell more that would be a win for M$ cuz capcom would consider making more games for it

well capcom has already BEEN making games for the 360.

and who thought DMC wouldnt sell? Its always gotten good numbers in the west.

and like i said, with the 360 having more units in the UK than its competitor, it would only be natural for it to outsell the PS3 version, added to the fact the PS3 version was $10 (or so, dont know pounds to dollars current conversion rate) more expensive.

So i would HOPE the 360 version outsold the PS3 version. But as of right now, without america's numbers, the PS3 version has an overall 150k or so lead.

So lets get those american numbers and see who wins in the end!

(personally i got it for the PS3 version, as i didnt have my 360 that week, but i'm guessing it'll be an even split betweent he two systems WW, since i think the 360 version will outsell the PS3 version in america, since, well, there's 3x the systems right?)

Your right Capcom has been making games for the 360 but they've never released any of their major games on a M$ system thats all I'm saying (No resident evil...yet, or DMC until now). DMC has done ok...In the west your right just ok...Not extravagant....So it doin positive on the 360 is a surprise because u would assume that the Sony loyalist would have gotten it on the PS3...That's just common sense speaking though.

ExMcloud, thats because last time a RE or DMC game was released, ms didn't have a viable console on the market. When the userbases are alligned between this gen, I think it's going to be VERY interesting.

I didn't think Devil may cry 4 was out on P.C yet here in the UK......

I'm not sure where this concept of DMC being a niche title or (as Kotaku called it) or not being for Western gamers came from. Previous titles in the series had huge numbers in Western areas. It's like everyone has forgotten this or something.

Either way, the UK in general seems more receptive to the 360 than other European countries. I wonder what the count would be once they're all included.

I guess all those Sony fanboys who threatened to boycott were serious?

Interesting....the back of the 360 box it has 1080P...but looking on the PS3 version it only supports 720P.

pretty funny that no review of the game talks about this.

Oddly, most games I see support 1080p for 360 and only 720p on PS3... And I wonder why that is?
Well after some research, turns out the 360 just upscales most games to 1080p even though they're actually only running in 720p. So your basically getting a false 1080p picture.

What next? HD DVD to prevail in the UK?

I know that in Japan, DMC4 on the PS3 outsold the 360 version like 4:1. Then again, theres very few 360's to begin with in Japan. Regardless, it's still interesting to see things from an overall perspective.

is this going to be like when sony decided december actually had 5 weeks in it, while the rest of the world thought it only had 4?

I mean if you dice it up you can make anything sound good.

Now i have no doubt the 360 version sold better overall in most western countries (as it should, since they have more consoles out there).

But lately PS3 has been making HUGE inroads, especially in Europe, where its been outselling 360 overall in hardware AND software.

Which SHOULDNT be happening if MS plays their cards right.

a system with 1.5-2million less consoles overall in europe should NOT be outselling its leading competitor in software.

I dont know WHAT MS is doing over there, but they need to change up their strategy.

As it is, with their product mix, Sony shouldnt of stood a chance, but here we are a year or so later and they're catching up.

Not really, that's exactly what Sony has been saying.
PS3 beat the 360 in sales in Europe... well, if you ignore the UK which alone more than made up the difference" or "PS3 beat the 360 in worldwide sales, if you define worldwide as "Japan".

Given that Sony had completely dominated the last two generations and all the anti-MS sentiment out there, the fact that the PS3 is STILL behind the 360 is a more of a wake up call for Sony than anything else.

I wonder if the £10 price difference between the PS3/360 version had to do with it. No, not the SE price... the prices for the regular game. 360(£29.99), PS3(£39.99)... big win there.

I have to imagine most people don't own both systems at this point... so I mean, if I had a 360 would I wander out to buy a PS3 and DMC4 to save £10.

I just don't think it's a major effect on all of this. That issue would only affect so many people.

some people still dont seem to get that there is something like a 2.35:1 ratio of xbox360 to ps3 in the UK. so we should be hoping it sells more copies of DMC4. and with the percentage of the game sales being 61% for the 360 and 39% for the ps3, those arent particularly spectacular numbers

$10 more expensive on PS3 and there is a smaller install base. PS3 is outselling 360 in hardware every week worldwide anyway, its only a matter of time before 3rd party games sell better on PS3. The extra cost of the game doesn't help either. The fact of the matter is, PS3 DMC4 is selling better than the 360 overall.

And to those saying "So much for PS3's dominance in the UK". 360 is getting outsold by 20-30k a week in the UK. This weeks numbers are:

PS3: 64,442
360: 45,570

So yes, Sony is beating 360 in the UK. By summer 2008 it will pass 360's install base. The only place PS3 will have a tough time beating 360 is in the US.

Yea, I decided as soon as it went multiplat that the odds of it being ass were pretty high and decided not to chance it. If you want a button masher to run on your PS3, get God of War 2. Its STILL better than DMC. Good victory though MS. So, how'd that HD-DVD thing work out for you?

I have started a similar petition... as a goof :) i submitted it a couple hours ago but it hasn't been approved yet... it probably won't... it read's:

We the disgruntled owners of PS3 (playstation 3 for the laymen) are all annoyed that we spent so much money on a console and you can buy the same games on other much more cost friendly consoles.

We demand that all cool and worth playing games be released exclusively on the ps3 so that we have a valid point to argue that our system is better on message boards.

We do not think it fair that other people not willing to throw down large amounts of money on a gaming system should be able to enjoy games.

Sony owns our souls for all eternity and unto Sony our cash we throw.
