There's a pungent retro flavor to proceedings on the dojo today, a nod to Nintendo's early history. If you'd like to know more, head past the post break for spoilers. If not, just keep on scrolling.
Whereas the Mushroomy Kingdom saw a classic Mario stage get a make-over, the newest stage in Brawl, simply titled "Mario Bros.," remains completely faithful to the original game. Even the enemies are historically accurate. Shell Creepers and Side Steppers patrol the platforms, and are just as susceptible to a timely nudge as they were in 1983. Knock them over, and you can pick them up and chuck them at your foes.
This stage is unlocked by completing Event 19: Wario Bros., but is more than a cute history lesson. Because of the tight spaces between the platforms, scoring standard KOs is far more difficult, forcing a different style of play. We've lost count of how many titles this level has appeared in as a bonus mode, but we've a feeling we might appreciate it a lot more in Brawl.

So can you travel off of one side of the screen and appear on the other side or just fall off and receive a KO?

.....Nice. I'm guessing it's still a KO, but who knows, maybe it randomly decides when someone teleports and when someone dies. :P

I love the look, I will say that. Seriously, however, I don't see the original gameplay being something that'll keep my interest very long. I'll give it a try, but, if anything, I'll probably just try to fight normally when this level is chosen.
No hate to the level, though, I love me some Mario Bros and welcome any stage to Brawl...

8-bit foes, gotta love it. Yeah I wonder how the KO's are gonna work. I like being able to run in one side and come out the other. But brawl poses an issue with that. It being random as to whether or not you go through or get KO'ed doesn't seem very feasable.

Anyone wanna guess when people are gonna start complaining about Wii Fanboy's coverage on SSBB? I know someone'll see this and get infuriated because they did NOT want to see this yet. I personally think it's a good thing that they're doing this, I'd never find out otherwise.
Awesome stage, now they need to make a classic Zelda stage.

It seems to me that it will just be impossible to deliberately self-destruct on this stage. If someone knocks you into the wraparound, then you die, but like in Subspace Emissary, if you just walk off the side, you won't

I hope they bring back the original Super Mario stages from Melee.

That's....awesome. Am I incorrect in recalling playing this on my Apple IIC?
