Readers pick best webcomic: we are only trying to help
For helping everyone figure out what to do while waiting for Devil May Cry 4 to install on our PlayStation 3, Penny Arcade earns major kudos and top honors as this week's best game-related webcomic. Personally, we opted for their final suggestion. (Second place went to Digital Unrest while third was claimed by Monday Night Crew (originally called "No more potty training" due to HTML errors, but linked to "The Legend Never Dies"). Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

Everyone is going bonkers over a 20-minute install for one game - wonder what 360 owners did when their machines were away for repairs for days, even weeks, or when the "superior" Live service was down when needed most - the xmas break.
Its also an indication of the media bias that a huge PS3 positive - a hard drive in every console - is somehow being twisted into a negative. Apparently, waiting for an eternity for new areas to load (Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey are big culprits) is ok, but a short install for one title is not.
And finally, what does this say about Capcom? Uncharted ensured zero load times with no install. Just how useless Capcom is - a 5GB install and you still have load times?

Red herring, red herring, blah blah blah, straw man, false dichotomy, blah blah blah.
Anything else?
Consoles are appealing over PC's because of their simplicity, plug and play. Waiting for a REQUIRED 20-min install is a big change in that.
Xbox1 had a built in HDD, yet how many of those games required an install? None to my knowledge.
If it was an option to speed up load times, great! If you have to wait 20+ minutes to play the game for the first time, not so great.
I have neither a 360 nor a PS3 and I don't really care about either. But your post was one of the worst bullshit arguments I have seen here in some time and you were due for being called out over it. You don't address the issue, you just make excuses, bluster, and make unrelated criticisms.
timnc @ Feb 12th 2008 8:25AM
You defend the PS3 for the installation time, and then you rip Capcom for making the installation time.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 12th 2008 8:30AM
That's the difference between being a Playstation fanboy and a Capcom fanboy.
And in Capcom's defense, I'm sure Naughty Dog was granted much more in-depth access to the PS3 hardware and better tech support from Sony than Capcom was. That said, Uncharted's use of the tech does still beat the shit out of DMC4's.
colinbell @ Feb 12th 2008 10:55AM
Well let me keep it simple - nobody needs to make "excuses" for this other than Capcom.
Its simply another salvo in the "PS3 sucks" campaign, linked to the "PS3 blu-ray is too slow" crap. Simply put, if Uncharted can have zero load times with no install, then its Capcom's fault, and Capcom's only - for having a mandatory load in the first place, and for the fact that even after that you have significant load times.
Fact is - the PS3 will always be superior to the 360 in terms of load times because of the hard disc in all machines. And all this is just typical MS BS to obscure this fact. Do you find anyone talking points of Mass Effect or Lost Odyssey for their long, tiresome load sequences?
And regarding your comment "If you have to wait 20+ minutes to play the game for the first time, not so great."
My point is - if you cant stand waiting 20 minutes (largely compensated by faster loading anyway) - why would you buy the 360, where you might face 2 weeks with no gaming when it goes RROD, where the online goes kaput for the entire xms holidays? Or where you have to wait 10-20 seconds everytime a new area loads?
timnc @ Feb 12th 2008 11:14AM
You know colinbell, not all of us have had RROD issues, and since they have identified the issue that caused them the newer 360s on the shelves in stores probably don't have these problems. I don't think arguing about load times vs RROD are on the same level.
And before you label me a fan boy, I own all the systems and I agree that the PS3 is a superior piece of hardware, I just think it has some poor implementation in regards to a lot of its features.

Please do us all a favor and see if you can't learn something from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyphen.
Once that's taken care of, maybe then we can try and work on those fanboy issues.

"you could as start playing it on 360. Immediately."
omg, thats exactly what i did while waiting for ps3 install. i add both version on queue on gamefly and they happen to send both. oh well in the end i let my friend borrow my ps3 version since he have ps3 only. letting go of either one is fine with me even though i pretty much prefer the 360 version for its clearer visual currently on my tv's setting, and achievement of course.
doom saber @ Feb 12th 2008 8:29AM
Both versions have achievement and from what I read on ign.com, the ps3 has better visual. Then again, your tv might be different.
Tom @ Feb 12th 2008 12:49PM
thats where you misunderstood. "letting go of either one is fine with me even though i pretty much prefer the 360 version for its clearer visual currently on my tv's setting, and achievement of course."
see, when i said that, i meant that my tv's setting which is consist of contrast, brightness, tint and etc are currently setted to look good on 360 visual.

Is anyone else more excited for Ninja Gaiden 2 than they ever were for this game?
Farseer (GDI) @ Feb 12th 2008 8:00AM
ding ding ding!
baby sea tuna @ Feb 12th 2008 8:26AM
Kinda. I like both, and yet I like neither.

I personally thought Captain Kirk for the Wii was the funniest strip, but aparently everyone else wants to make a political statement ;)

That was pretty funny, but PA made me laugh more.

The mandatory install wasn't that bad for me, in my honest opinion. I mean, after I let the game install, I chatted with my brother about urban vinyl. Before I knew it, the installation finish and I am still busy talking to my brother. Didn't bother to try the game until I was done chatting with my brother. However, I am a patient person and is used to install and/or download crap on my pc all the time. So the waiting time varies.

The script isn't a mistake. The writing is Devanagari which, in addition to being used for Hindi, is also the typical writing system for Sanskrit.
