Rumorong: Target not pulling Mass Effect

A Target spokesperson got back to us this afternoon after double checking with all the right folks and told us unequivocally, "This is just a rumor. There are no plans to remove this game, it's available at Target stores and Target.com." We just wanted to nip this one in the bud before it spread too far and, having just done that, we now return you to your regularly scheduled Joystiq posts.

now can we debunk the rumor that they are going to start putting black sleeves over M-rated games similar to adult magazines?

This reminds me of GTA3... I worked retail at the time.
Game launched during Black Friday season... as in the week of Black Friday. By the end of the weekend, we had a TON of people calling panicked that the game was recalled and the government was mass banning this title. Because it was Black Friday weekend and companies weren't used to rumors blowing up on the net yet, they said nothing. Enter a full weekend of fear and panic at censorship, only to find out the game just sold out. No bannings, just sold well over expectations...

I luvs me some Target. I'm glad this isn't true, because it would make me respect them just slightly less.

Come, now: I bet the only 15 people who still remember that Fox thang are reading this...

Say, Chris, don't you mean to say "which" instead of "whom?" Saying whom in that sentence would be correct (Target is the object of your verb) if not for the fact that each Target store "has no trouble," and therefore is performing a verb. A "which" in there should clear things up right away. Thanks!

My girlfriend is a linguistics major - I'm certain that your post will at least entertain her. Your critique won't go unnoticed.

Chris, excellent detective work! It's good to see Joystiq going the extra mile to debunk rumors when they can instead of just spreading them. ;)
