Though NCSoft has made a name for itself as a PC-based MMO developer and publisher, the South Korean company will soon be expanding to the console business, with plans to announce its first title before the second half of this year.
Wired recently spoke with NCSoft president Chris Chung, who confirmed that a title is in the works for PS3 and that it would not only be announced this year, but shown. When asked whether NCSoft would be porting one of its popular PC titles to the console, Chung stated that it's important to design gameplay suited to the console's strengths. Whether this means an entirely new title, or simply a console-oriented version of an existing IP remains to be seen.

i say make a console version of CoH... i would totally play that.
It just seems to me for a console MMO, you would go for ease of use and quickness of play, and to me a "lightened" version of COH would do that perfectly as its a pretty straightforward MMO.

My guess would be either Aion or Tabula Rasa. Doubt it will be totally new IP yet.
..GW2 announcement would be great though.

Dunno what they were worried about kitsune, the PC will always be getting Guild Wars 2.
In any case they will probably publish some terrible MMO grind-fest that is 99 percent of all games from Korea, but I mean that's what they like so more power to em. Just don't be expecting Guild Wars on the PS3 and you won't have to worry about being dissapointed.

Knowing that NCsoft is an MMO developer and publisher, there are extremely little chances that this PS3 game doesn't turn out to be an MMO.
But I think that the biggest part to discuss is the part where Chung said "it's important to design gameplay suited to the console's strengths".
Out of all of the consoles of this generation, PC excluded, the PS3 would probably be the wisest choice for developing an MMO. Why? Because it's the only console with an open internet network infrastructure which don't demand for additional costs. Afterwards, I don't know if a hard drive would be a necessity or not because if it is, then it'd be perfect since it wouldn't alienate ANY PS3 consumers.
I'm just trying to imagine playing an MMO on a console with a widescreen HDTV, with a headset (preferably, unless people prefer typing), and with a controller which has tilt functions (and soon rumble as standard).

yea i would certainly love to try one of these MMOs on my HDTV. im not the biggest MMO fan by far but im always open to trying something new. i keep hearing so much about this Guild Wars so on the off chance it is that i think i would pick it up. i liked WoW but the laptop i was using primarily at that time couldnt really handle it when i got to big cities. dont know if Guild Wars is anything like that or not but thats the MMO ive played lol. CoH/V are also games i wanted to try too.

I used to play Guildwars addictively until I got into college.
Just know that Guildwars was designed in mind to be an extremely unorthodox MMO trying to break established rules in order to fix problems.
The game is heavily anchored on build/skill strategy; the main reason why the level cap is at 20 is so that the emphasis is always placed on the player's skill (and not on the amount of time spent clicking).
The combat system feels very dynamic because for Energy (= mana), you have a short amount but which regenerates quickly (the speed varies according to character status).
It is really hard to solo because even though characters end up having 2 professions, their abilities are somehow incomplete for overall combat, therefore it hammers the need for teamplay (especially for hard missions). But you get access to over 150 skills which all rock, except that you can only bring in 8 at a time in battle (which is why you heavily depend on your team, no matter which character you are).
It's not a jump/click fest.
And there's no monthly subscription.
If you're aiming for Guildwars, then that's what you should expect: a unique experience breaking boundaries.

I hope they won't charge a monthly fee for their PS3 titles, I'm suspecting a Guild Wars 2 for the consoles since from the previews, they mention about adding the abilities to swim, jump, etc. Which better way to do all that than with a controller in hand?

Anticrawl - you gotta consider that the forum kiddies in the GW community aren't happy unless they have something to bitch about. :)
At any rate, even if it uses an existing NCSoft IP, there is no reason it has to be an MMO that gets released. We could end up with a Champions of Norrath style hack and slash set in the Guild Wars universe (which would rock) or a CoH/CoV kart game for all that is known.
