When a list of canceled Blizzard titles emerged at this year's DICE, MTV's Stephen Totilo noticed one game conspicuously absent: Starcraft Ghost, which we probably all assumed was dead. But Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce told MTV "It never was technically canceled. It's just a focus thing for us right now." ... Umm, confirmed?
Yes, we've heard rumblings about a Ghost rebirth before, but so far absolutely nothing has come of it. That leaves us with one question: If a game almost assuredly isn't coming out in your lifetime, isn't it pretty much canceled anyway?

Hmmmm, this would be a good game for Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Maybe they could port the original works of it for the Wii.

Of course it's not dead. We'll see World of Starcraft and the World of Starcraft: Ghost expansion before 2010. Hell, Bilzzard can only milk WoW for so long...

Anyway I think we should use Duke Nukem as the control group. Unless the game is in "development" as long as it without official confirmation it is cancelled we shouldn't give up on it...

I seriously don't get it, all the previews of the game showed it as pretty much done, and hell, it looked amazing...

StarCraft: Ghost got delayed because of bad timing, nothing more. The game was very near completion as an XBox title right around the time that the XBox 360 was launched. Blizzard realized that they could do so much more with the next gen systems and decided to put the game on hold until they can refocus their energy on it sometime in the future.
Speaking from experience, having played SC:Ghost multiplayer at BlizzCon '05, they definitely still had a lot of polishing to go in order to make it a Blizzard quality game. The multiplayer was incredibly unbalanced in favor of the Zerg - none of the Space Marine's weaponry had enough stopping power to keep the Hydralisks from chewing your face off.

All i have to say is: Starcraft 64....
Don't rush blizzard... please... for the sake of humanity...
I guess on topicish;
If a game is not officially "in development" but not cancelled, it's not cancelled... sure, Ghost may be on the back burner, but someone there at "The Bliz" wanted to keep it alive... there is a tiny ray of hope...

Sure rushing them would be bad, but something that was announced in 2002? Six years would hardly be rushing.

From what I heared, the original game was practically done. If anything, they should include that version with the new version of the game as a bonus, so all that time and effort would not be wasted. Like it was with Warcraft adventure.

I just had a sad idea...
Imagine, if you will, that you are still a game when you're 60, 70 or 80 years old. Or that you are already this age and a gamer.
Every time a killer game is announced, you have to ask "Will I still be alive by the time this actually comes out?" Ouch.

It's unfortunate that everyone immediately jumps to the "olo duke nukem" bandwagon for any and every game that's delayed even slightly. Hell, even when the games aren't even delayed, they're just revealed at some media event, everyone starts yelling "Duke Nukem lawlz" if the title isn't out within a year.

Maybe, but in all fairness, 6 years is a pretty long time, and considering that this is just an "it isn't canceled" announcement, a few more years before we see the game wouldn't be shocking. It's getting pretty close to a DNF level, and deserves all the vaporware mockery it gets.

I had been suspicious of this for a few years now, seeing as it wasn't ever really canceled for anything other then the Game Cube. I for one will get this game, hell I'll pre-order whenever I can.

I'm sure they would, but SC Ghost isn't even listed by anyone nor have I ever been in a GameStop, also I'm not sure if they even operate in Canada.

Seriously though, I thought I was the only one. When it was a announced, it seemed a crappy grab at boob-crazed gamers who were ok with the light twisting of a franchise in order to milk them for cash. Funny, I remember more people thinking the same back then too, but we all have short memories I suppose.

(sorry for double posting)
I loved the idea...not because I am "boob-crazed", but because the world of Starcraft is absolutely awesome and if done well, a game from ground perspective would be soooo uber.

to Ihavepants:
I agree, there's an amazing library of characters to create or choose from in the Starcraft universe, and even more possibilities with stories surrounding them. What originally irked me was the character design, in that it didn't REALLY match the rest of the franchise, which to me, screamed "we're trying to cash in on t&a". The painted legs (those are not pants) didn't help their cause either. Puting that aside, the gameplay doesn't jump out at me as very innovative or even imaginative.
I'm not holding my breath, as I may be proven wrong, but it just doesn't jump out at me as a game that others haven't done time and time again.

I'm so much of a Blizzard fanboy that if they released a product called "Blank White Screen" for console I'd buy two copies just in case the first one was lost on the way home from the store.
Seriously, anyway they can get invovled in the console space is something I for one cherish, so I hope this does indicate that SC:Ghost is still alive.....still alive.....
:)
