'Aliens: Colonial Marines' is title of Gearbox, Sega FPS

Not much more than a name to go with previous confirmation that Brothers in Arms creator Gearbox is developing an Alien FPS for Sega, as Game Informer announces "Aliens: Colonial Marines" as the cover story in it's new issue. The brief teaser copy confirms that the game will be squad-based, ostensibly following some of the development cues from Gearbox's previous projects. The title alludes to the second film, Aliens, and perhaps specifically to the 'United States Colonial Marines' who accompany Ripley when she returns to LV-426. It's unclear what, if any connection the game will have to that film or others within the series.

Sega's Alien license currently covers Colonial Marines and an Obsidian RPG. Aliens: Colonial Marines is slated for a 2009 release on PC and consoles.

Let's hope Gearbox can make better ue of the Aliens license than Fox as done with the Aliens vs. Predator movies.

Yes, but the Alien vs Predator games were awesome back in the day, and still today. One of the only great FPS movie-tie ins.

By "back in the day" I take it you mean the original AvP games on the snes and jaguar? Though the Jaguar one was way superior in all respects.

If you mean the recent ones then I feel old and must sit down...

I just hope this isnt the game that they were REALLY HYPING not too long ago. "Something big, bigger than big" is to the extent of what he had said. I was hoping Halo 4 lol!

I do indeed miss the AvP games. Especially the first one, just for the sheer sense of speed and agility they were able to project when playing as a drone. This has me excited, but I won't get my hopes too high until that issue of GI comes in the mail.

I'm hoping this will be good, but if it is going to be good it should have been good like 3 years ago, I think everyone is getting little tired of space marines fighting aliens. Not me though bring it on...and then maybe a little starship troopers...anyone?...anyone?...no?..I guess I guess its just me..

well I love the Aliens universe in general, my rule of thumb is, just because something came first, that doesn't mean it's better. Your a gamer you should know that there are far too many things that were "first" and got beat out by other better franchises. Don't get me wrong I want to play this game, I just hope its not another Turok

....and don't be hatin' on my Halo, we both know....

I kind of wish they'd try a more survival horror style of Alien game. Take it back to an atmosphere more like the first movie, where you're a fairly normal working human trying to survive instead of a tricked-out marine with a squad of bad-asses vs. the Alien hordes. The Alien universe seems made for survival horror, but if there's been a game with that angle, I must've missed it.

Not that I didn't enjoy the Alien vs. Predator games (including the arcade one... flashback!), but I think there's untapped potential here.

Video game developers got the idea of Space Marines from Alien and ran with it. When I say "ran with it" it's meant as an understatement.

damn. I was hoping their huge game was going to be Halo 3 for the PC, tbh. Halo PC by Gearbox was the best part of the franchise, with some of the best map design as well.

Its essentially gonna be Aliens (but probably without all the marines dying so quick!)

I loved AvP (Jaguar, PC1 and PC2) but the marine was always the most tense part. Aliens were pretty cool, but predators were always the weakest link to play... just too powerful.

If this is done right it'll be a tactical squad based shooter more like brothers in arms or rainbow six than Halo. And it'd be refreshing to have those kinda shooters moved out of the "realistic combat" genre.

(the only danger is that having teammates can destroy the FEAR, as in Jericho. But it can also seriously boost the fear if done right, as in Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels. )

wasnt this being made for the PS2 years ago by EA? and then they had the bright idea of cancelling it (one of the reasons EA can lick my balls)

still, glad to hear its back, even better Gearbox are on the reins now instead of EA
