I think releasing new consoles that early would really burn most consumers considering they are just now beginning to really get into the new console generation. With the prices for purchasing consoles, developing for them, R&D'ing them and everything in between I can't imagine something new would come out in 2-3 years. This past generation we had roughly six years for each console. Eight for the PS2 if you still count it.

Even for the 360 which people for some reason think is running out of steam, there is so much more that can be done with it with regards to games. Once we start seeing console prices dipping near that $150 range lets bring this discussion up again, but as long as everything is $299 and up (save the Wii) why would we even think to transition the consoles over.

I have that very issue of Next Generation. It's a very interesting read. Considering how things actually turned out.

It's been a while since a handheld generation coincided with the kickoff of a console generation.

Last one I remember was 1989.

That was one hell of a year.

Off topic... Single best video game mag ever published. Everything else was crap when compared to Next Generation.

I'll be graduating college by 2010.

Is it just me, or does it seem a little early?

I'll say. Each system is a huge financial investment for such a short span of time.

Hell, I wasn't planning on getting a 360 or Wii until fall of this year, when we hopefully see a pricedrop. On the 360 anyway. I've little excuse for the Wii, other than the fact that I'm poor.

As Ross Perot said:

This is the time to take the knife out of the kitchen and stab the chicken.

By which I believe he meant that it is time to get in on this generation, because its starting to run out.

I can see Nintendo getting the first foot in the next gen console race. I guess it's their turn.

But the only way I'm buying it is if they have slots for NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii games on one console, as well as the new format. And controller ports for all those systems too. I mean, that's like 3 1/2 out of 5 good consoles there. How could they lose?

That's funny that the next cycle begins in 2010. I recall reading somewhere that Sony's PS3 will dominate by 2011. Now we know why.

when the PS2 was coming out i read somewhere that there are only gonna be either 7 or 9 versions of the playstation console to be made (not including any handheld systems) and if i remember correctly i think it may have been on some website that was affiliated to sony.is that true? and if so how would they know how many they are gonna make cause from the time they say that to the time it happens they could go bankrupt. right?

u guys are weird, y then hell would u spend almost 400 dollars on a console, use it for 3-4 years then throw it away and spend another 400 dollars on another one?

that doesn't make sense, no one in there right mind would send so much in such a short amount of time.
