Motorstorm, DiRT, that game with Ivan "Ironman" Stewart -- these are among the elite of off-road racing titles, having set the bar ridiculously high for other games to follow. Disney, however, has its dirt-encrusted sights set higher by announcing Pure, an upcoming off-road racer that it claims will "redefine the off-road racing genre."
In development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is currently being dragged through the mud at Disney's Brighton, England studio Black Rock, formerly known as Climax Racing, a studio known for such racing franchises as Moto GP and ATV Offroad Fury. Even with this experience, however, we're not exactly sure how Disney's plans reshape how we think about off-road racing, though it might have something to do with what it calls "breakneck racing" and "jaw-dropping aerial tricks," all of which are apparently being overseen by stunt guru and ATV filmmaker Wes Miller. Still, we've read these sorts of claims before, and while the initial bath of media looks interesting it's a good bet our jaws are in no danger of hitting the floor just yet.

Wow, is this really that popular of a genre that we need another entry? Personally, the closest I've gotten to giving a shit about this sport is Wario Stadium, on Double Dash...

I don't know what they are talking about. Offroading peaked at ATV Offroad Fury. It's all for nothing without endless explorable expanse and silly physics.

The Offroad Racing Genre Died with Colin McRae.... sorry, but you all know it's true...
DiRT is probably the closest thing to a good Rally game...
as for ATV Stuff, Offroad Fury was the king... everything else is just crap...
Unless this is "Pure ATV Offroad Fury" or "ATV Offroad Fury: Pure" it will probably tank... i don't like anything with the Disney name... i don't support anti-semitism (damn racsit cartoonist...)

To be fair, that was like 60 years ago. I assume you also boycott Ford, GM, and IBM too, right?

Atleast Ford, GM, and IBM put out a product that isn't total and utter garbage...
It's more an opposition to really bad cartoons... but the companies namesake's racism does play a role...
Would you buy a car from the "Hitler Motor Company"? or wine from "Mussolini Winary" or a turtle from "Pol Pot's Discout Pet Emporioum"? (that last one made me chuckle a but :D)
Yes, i know, it's not the same, and i guess the argument isn't there, but might as well drag his name through the mud for old times sake... now i need to go find a turtle...

Uh, are you talking about the Nazi Donald Duck short which portrayed the Nazi-occupied German life as miserable and unliveable? Yeah, the Disney animators were totally trying to communicate anti-semitism with that. o_O

Everyone seems to be bashing on the fact that we don't need anymore entries into the genre.
What I want to say though, is that if those are screens of the game, it looks pretty damn amazing visually. Even if they are just concept art, it's nice to see Disney do something that isn't cartoon-ish and 'kid-friendly' (stylewise that is).
So I commend them in that regard. About it just being another game in the genre, eh, I never really cared about it too much anyway.
2 cents..you have mine

I agree and I don't... while it is refreshing it isn't a cartoon, that dosn't mean it's not going to be kid friendly. I doubt the soundtrack will have anything other than Hannah Montana or some other prissy poppy bullshit. Also: i doubt the riders will ever fall off... that wouldn't be kid friendly.... really... getting a boo boo...
Since they are merely puppet masters, i think this COULD be good... but probably won't... but i do agree it looks pretty

Disney Exec: I know everyone is wondering just how we intend to 'redefine' the off road racing genre. Well check it out. Off road vehicles...ON ROADS! Did we just blow your minds or what?
