Impatient to get your Brawl on? Some of you North American gamers could get a chance to play Nintendo's all-star fighter as early as this Saturday, when Nintendo kicks off the first of four regional Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments across the United States.
The regional tournaments will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and New York City, with a maximum of 256 participants at each location. The winners from each tournament will meet in New York for the finals, with the grand prize winner walking away with a crystal-coated Wii, home theatre system, and (of course) a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
The three finalists will win non-crystal-coated Wii consoles, extra Wii remotes, copies of Brawl, and Best Buy gift certificates ranging from $250 to $1,000. Regional tournaments register players on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we'd recommend getting there nice and early to compete. The first tourney is this Saturday, February 16 in Los Angeles. Full regional tournament details after the break.
The regional tournaments will take place on four separate days, in four separate locations:
Saturday, Feb. 16
Doors open at 3 p.m.
Orpheum Theater
842 S. Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90014
Saturday, Feb. 23

So there are crystal coated Wii consoles?
When I first read that, I saw the word "crystal" and I immediately thought of something else.
If I was American, and I lived in one of those locations, and I didn't work weekends, I'd consider entering.

I'm not sure how they decided on these "regions" for this. Why not cover some other areas of the country? There are a lot of areas that just aren't ever covered in these things. Why not Seattle? Denver? Dallas or San Antonio? Chicago? Atlanta? Miami? D.C./Baltimore? Raleigh/Charlotte? Nothing ever happens outside of NY, CA and MA.

I think Bungie is in Seattle and they did an event once there. I think there is also some other big developer there. I have heard about gaming events in Seattle also.

Right...I guess they're not really in the same category as the rest of us, but I was trying to think what actual "regions" would be, and Seattle is the obvious Northwest location. Personally, I'm from NC, and nothing happens here, which is fine, but you think they could at least bring it within driving distance (DC or Atlanta).

I think a decent question is what the hell does a crystal-coated Wii look like?
Contests are neat though.

That was my first thought exactly. I can understand NY, what with having the Nintendo World Store there, and LA, but Boston and San Francisco? WTF?
Suck it Nintendo. From your friends in the midwest.

wonder how the format will work is it 1v1 or 4 person FFA. items or no items. my guess is 4 person FFA winner moves on with items engaged.
you know the sad thing is the winner of those tournament in the highest probability would already have the japanese version of the game. making the whole getting brawl early kinda moot. they are basically giving rewards to those who modded their wii(something that ninty is against). this tournament would have been better if it was placed at the japan release so everyone sits at the same level rather than some impatient people have huge advantage over those who are waiting for the actual release date

Did you read it as Smash Melee because that generalization of what a fair tournament is looks to be based on that assumption IMO. And then it would be shiek only since she is the unequivocally best character in the game.

No serious smash players will show, because the advanced techniques are gone.
Which means these tournaments will be fun!!!

BEWARE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!
For those big fans who want spoilers, go to WWW.Smashbros.com for a complete list that just keeps updating. They have characters from the old game and new characters, they also have hidden characters. They have items, modes, characters, stages, and notices. Some new characters include; Sonic, Snake, pokemon trainer, Lucas ( from a japan only release of earthbound), wario, and King DeDe. But remember these are just a few of the characters there are still many more! Also a few new stages are;pictochat, warioware, Smashville ( a DS animal crossing type stage), New Pork City ( a huge Stage), and Mushroomy Kingdom ( an old mario game stage on the original gameboy where you go and find the flag, but its now all desert and ruins!). So remember people, if you want all the hot details on this game, then remember, GO TO WWW.SMASHBROS.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
