Ex-Naughty Dog staffers start Big Red Button Entertainment
It's been said that the ultimate user interface would be "a little box with a single red button; when pushed it would give you exactly what you need exactly when you need it." We'd like to think that this was the inspiration that led two ex-Naughty Dog staffers to create game studio Big Red Button Entertainment. Or maybe their inspiration was a little less high-minded. We don't know.Anyway, the new studio has vowed to become the "United Artists of games" (much like EA) by creating "original character based intellectual properties for cross platform and cross media development." OK, so that doesn't really mean anything, but with titles like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to the creators' credit, we're still excited about the possibilities. Hey, maybe they should design some games for the Buzz controller. Y'know ... because it has a big red button ...? No? Not funny? FINE! WHO ASKED YOU?!

Sheesh, and people say all the good band names have been taken!
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 15th 2008 2:20PM
Samfish is it just me or did you redo your avatar and now it shows just a liiittle more nipple there?
samfish @ Feb 15th 2008 3:44PM
Nope. Haven't touched it in a while.
That said, I have Naked Peach 3 lined and ready to go when I get bored of this one.
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 15th 2008 4:23PM
Good stuff =)
ThornedVenom @ Feb 15th 2008 2:05PM
Still witnessing the growth of the industry...
Will @ Feb 15th 2008 2:06PM
Maybe they just wanted to branch out and develop for Xbox360/Nintendo Wii?
FOXHOUND @ Feb 15th 2008 2:11PM
As long as they make games as good as they did for NaughtyDog... I don't care what console it's on. :]
Tyler Eaton @ Feb 15th 2008 2:19PM
Questions:
Are they developing for non-Sony systems?
If they stay Sony only, then it doesn't change much.
Are these two former Naughty Dog staffers responsible for any past Naughty Dog hits in particular?
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 15th 2008 2:21PM
Did you read the story? Thats the question here, dumbass!!
Curtis the Claw Game Master @ Feb 15th 2008 2:22PM
Let me guess, you just read the title of the article and not the actual article, right?
Curtis the Claw Game Master @ Feb 15th 2008 2:23PM
*high fives fenixknight*
Curtis the Claw Game Master @ Feb 15th 2008 2:24PM
Oh no...I'm having problems with the reply system again...
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 15th 2008 2:48PM
*high five*
LOL! I mean, at least READ the fricken story.
GRANTED @ Feb 15th 2008 2:43PM
who the hell would make a game interface with one big red button. that sounds like a retarded game.
...unless the button is pressed by your foot, and opens a box that captures ghosts.
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 15th 2008 2:45PM
I see what you did there. +1
Damn I miss those cartoon watchin' days =)

"It's been said that the ultimate user interface would be "a little box with a single red button; when pushed it would give you exactly what you need exactly when you need it."
Usually the Red button is for self-destruction.Oh I see.
t_m @ Feb 16th 2008 7:43AM
That'd be a short game then..
Tyler Eaton @ Feb 15th 2008 2:58PM
Cripes, I only read the Joystiq story, I didn't follow the link. Up mine.
Curtis the Claw Game Master @ Feb 15th 2008 3:14PM
What are you talking about? If you read the joystiq story you would see the following quotes...
"but with titles like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to the creators' credit"
and...
"original character based intellectual properties for cross platform and cross media development"
ADMIT YOU ONLY READ THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE NOW.
Tyler Eaton @ Feb 15th 2008 3:31PM
NEVER!
I was asking if this:
"but with titles like Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to the creators' credit"
meant they actually contributed significantly to those titles, or merely worked on some small part of them.
And this quote:
"original character based intellectual properties for cross platform and cross media development"
doesn't contain any '3's, '6's, or '0's and therefore may have been overlooked when I THOROUGHLY read the entire article.
HAVE AT YOU!
la @ Feb 15th 2008 5:48PM
Ok. I should probably set the record straight on at least one of these two.
D. Arey hasn't contributed any meaningful thing to the industry in a very long time. Naughty Dog wanted to bounce him out of there because he didn't do anything on Uncharted. Ready At Dawn also did the same thing from my sources.
Having him throw around company names like that even though he had a very negligible effect in them should be known.
I wish them luck regardless since maybe they have learned through their mistakes and are making a fresh start.
Don't mess this up guys..
Tyler Eaton @ Feb 15th 2008 5:54PM
Ha, there was more to the story. Glad that worked out for me... I was looking like a careless idiot there.
Powerlord @ Feb 16th 2008 1:08AM
So, how long before Staples sues for stealing their Easy Button idea?
William @ Feb 16th 2008 2:07AM
Wow Bob Rafei left Naughty Dog, that is quite a surprise considering he led the art direction for Naughty Dog games since Crash Bandicoot.
t_m @ Feb 16th 2008 7:44AM
Hmm, an interface which is efficient or one that is involving and fun, but more difficult. Choices choices...
generic @ Feb 16th 2008 9:39AM
That's the history eraser button you fool!
