Red Alert 3 coming to PC, Xbox 360, PS3
Following yesterday's unveiling in PC Gamer, Electronic Arts has sent us a press release providing more details on the upcoming Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. Like C&C3: Tiberium Wars, the game will come out for consoles as well, announced for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
In Red Alert 3, the Soviets have been toying with time travel to try and save "Mother Russia," only to inadvertently cause a third world power, The Empire of the Rising Sun. In this alternate timeline, World War III has started between the Allies, Soviets and Empire. The game will feature a co-operative campaign mode.
EA also announced a PC-only beta of RA3 for anyone with a copy of C&C3: Kane's Wrath; details of the beta are expected this summer. Red Alert 3 is being developed by EA Los Angeles (Tiberium Wars, Battle for Middle-Earth). No release date was announced. While we applaud Tiberium Wars' gamepad-friendly controls, we're still crossing our fingers that the PS3 version supports keyboard and mouse.

Beautiful...
Ah, the nostalgia...

Red Alert was a big factor in failing my second semester in college.
Well me being lazy was really the factor but I spent way too much time on Red Alert.

From the press release:
"...weapons and technologies like Tesla coils, heavily armed War Blimps, teleportation, armored bears, intelligent dolphins, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks."
Armored Bears FTW!!

Also... glad to see the Yuri/Psychic crap gone
Swifty @ Feb 15th 2008 11:10AM
...And the number one threat to America: Bears.
GoldenS1104 @ Feb 15th 2008 5:13PM
Awesome... armored bears = win.
Too bad there's no Mac love though. Tiberium Wars was on Mac, maybe they'll make it for Mac eventually.

I've been waiting for them to announce this game for years. It's been too long... my only qualm is that the maximum view distance that the CnC3 engine has isn't far out enough. I'm used to the old RA games that have a pretty far out zoom so I can see a wider range.
Other than that, I really hope they somehow add a fourth faction with an expansion. I would love to see Yuri return. :)

ea cant fuck this up
Aberu @ Feb 15th 2008 10:15PM
You wanna bet?
-Liquidation of Westwood after acquiring the company.
-Dropping support for any old Westwood title, including Earth and Beyond.
-CNC3
-CNC Renegades
-CNC Generals
EA is the MOST LIKELY candidate for fucking up ANY franchise IMO.

Damn in all 3 of the pics the Soviets are kicking ass. Love those mammoth tanks.
Also, tesla boats are kind of crazy. Water is clearly the most electrophilic substance around, yet they are able to aim the electricity at other boats.
WORD UP TECHNOLOGY

I hope the PC version will have Live support. I still can't stand RTS on my 360 but I do love those achievement points.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 15th 2008 10:58AM
So, I guess this means they've fixed the console RTS controls, right? I mean, it's not like EA would release a subpar game or anything...
Marty @ Feb 15th 2008 10:58AM
A few years ago I would have been worried about EA's plans for the title, but they did such a good job with C&C 3, I think we can relax this time around.
Zetino!! @ Feb 15th 2008 11:16AM
yeah... cant wait!!!
Intentless @ Feb 15th 2008 11:19AM
Personally I am concerned.
Magetto @ Feb 15th 2008 11:21AM
Looks promising so far. Glad to see the Soviet Dreadnoughts, and tesla boats (which were oddly absent from RA2) back. I guess they're finally bringing Japanese Empire into the series. I can see it now Kamikaze spam for massive damage.
Also anyone else find it cool that you can build more than just shipyards in the water? I see what looks like a power plant in the one picture.
Co @ Feb 15th 2008 11:22AM
Sweet. Pickin this up for the ole PC.
Nate @ Feb 15th 2008 12:43PM
Really hope they have keyboard and mouse support for the PS3, and cross platform play would be nice.
Rususeruru @ Feb 15th 2008 1:19PM
There is only 1 appropriate platform for this game...
Win95/98 Pentium II! God I wish, then it would actually run on my rig hahaha
Poisoned Al @ Feb 15th 2008 2:12PM
Joygasm!
Matrinix @ Feb 15th 2008 3:55PM
Empire of the Rising Sun... YES! Finally, Japan in Red Alert! Also, the screenshots look great; however, someone mentioned building powerplants in the water... to me in that screenshot it looked like it was built on a beach, not in the water.
Matrinix @ Feb 15th 2008 2:53PM
Oh... Also, it should have good controls for the console... since it's based on Kane's Wrath (engine-wise) [or at least I think it is]... and Kane's Wrath is supposed to revamp the console controls to make them better.
Aberu @ Feb 15th 2008 10:11PM
Now if they could just make it feel like a CnC game this time and not a wanna be Warcraft 3 with bajillions of unit upgrades and potential ability combinations. We want the rush, the 5 minute matches, the true strategy, not the sheer task of memorization... CnC 3 and Generals were huge letdowns personally after the behemoth that was Red Alert 2.
CSeraph @ Feb 16th 2008 10:46AM
C&C 3 was dissapointing =| Cut scenes and schtuff were nostalgic good, but some units, gameplay, tiberium, no walls... balance patches galore...
Meh, didn't bought expansion and not getting Red Alert for now. Better here some good news on their forums by the users when it is available...
mergedwarrior @ Feb 17th 2008 2:53PM
I want.. Tesla Bears.
