Square Enix dates The World Ends With You for April 22
Square Enix has finally nailed down a firm US release date for its upcoming, dare we say original action-RPG for the DS, The World Ends With You. While Nintendo listed the game among its spring releases last month, the calender jockeys at Final Fantasy proper have announced that the game will make it to North American retail outlets on April 22.
Developed at the hands of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories developer Jupiter, the game has certainly been on the minds of those of us partial to Nintendo's touchable handheld, as as well as those with a thing for big feet and Japanese culture. The World Ends With You is set within Tokyo's "trendiest youth culture center," Shibuya, and takes "major influences" from the area's cultural bearings, from food and music to fashion and design. It all sounds great, but honestly you had us at original.

Fernando Rocker @ Feb 15th 2008 9:39AM
There are a lot of RPG's in the DS... any recommendation? Anyone knows if Tales for the DS is coming to USA?
StarFoxA @ Feb 15th 2008 9:40AM
I'm definitely going to get it.
FidliousWong @ Feb 15th 2008 9:46AM
Most DS RPGs are rubbish, which sucks really. But the FF's... Children of Mana, and M&L:PIT are all pretty good.
Nigeria @ Feb 15th 2008 9:46AM
Fernando,
Contact is good. A little strange but I like it.
You can temporarily level up by eating eggs. And you can slay cows. And destroy mobile phones. It's good.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 15th 2008 9:54AM
I have Mana, Lost Magic, Lunar... some FF... Dragon Ques Rocket Slime
I'm interesing in DQ Joker and Mario & Luigi Partners in Time? Any thoughts about this two games?
B1gC72 - PSN: KillaKornbread @ Feb 15th 2008 10:08AM
i loved Partners In Time. i thought Superstar Saga was better but Partners In Time was still a great game. the only complaints i really had where that it barely used the touch screen at all and there is almost no replay value. you should be able to find it on the cheap now so replay value isnt that big a deal if the game is around $10-$15. i definitely recommend it.
FidliousWong @ Feb 15th 2008 10:35AM
My only bitch about Partners in Time is that the end boss isn't so much difficult... just an excessively annoyingly long battle. First time attempting it, I had no clue what to do and it was over a hour. And because I was ill equipped, eventually fell. Second time, it was a 45 minute battle (but I won... horray). To me, that's too excessive for a handheld game. Especially since you cannot pause and quicksave mid battle.

Interesting! Are there any reviews of the Japanese game? I'd like to learn more.
Nigeria @ Feb 15th 2008 9:22AM
I remember this game. I was excited by it.

Boy, when you said "original" I was thinking that it *wouldn't* be some gay anime-looking game!
Whew. Glad we cleared that up...
Nigeria @ Feb 15th 2008 9:37AM
On the gay spectrum I don't believe it's that gay. Especially if you allow your imagination go free...
Though, I'm by no means an expert.
Princess Skittles @ Feb 15th 2008 9:40AM
They really need to enforce the "13 years and up" age restriction on internet accounts (or whatever that silly law entails), it would probably clean up on sludge like this.

Somebody doesn't understand japanese views on sexuality, and/or character design from one guy.
ThornedVenom @ Feb 15th 2008 9:29AM
Shame on me as a DS gamer for not following up this game.
I see some big names here, but what's the game about?
StrangeBum @ Feb 15th 2008 9:31AM
I hadn't even heard about this game until now. It's nice to see 'Squenix' doing something that isn't Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior. And don't get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy games and the DW series, but I like original stuff too.
Import title for sure if they don't localize it.
StrangeBum @ Feb 15th 2008 9:32AM
.....April 22nd......

April 22nd...dats my birfday...
RDX @ Feb 15th 2008 10:41AM
Umm, is it really a bug? I'm in the dark concerning this matter. Either way, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And PSA- April 22nd is also Earth Day so do the planet a favor and recycle something and pick up trash. Now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
RDX @ Feb 15th 2008 11:23AM
Here's a thought, perhaps me adding the stupid GI Joe reference to the end of that was to let it be known that I was being facetious. Hmm...

Oh no, the repeater bug is back!
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 15th 2008 11:16AM
OMFG earth day.
The tree huggers Christmas.
Hey I got a better idea, why don't we recycle something and pick up trash (also known as "civic duty") everyday?
SymetriX @ Feb 15th 2008 10:26AM
DO WANT
capt_carl @ Feb 15th 2008 10:33AM
I still say the guy in the back looks like Seifer. Gogo Nomura artwork.
Gonna buy this. I need a new DS game.
koehler83 @ Feb 15th 2008 10:48AM
Well.. he looks like Seifer from Kingdom Hearts 2 anyway.
Uh.. whats this game about?
FidliousWong @ Feb 15th 2008 10:51AM
It's a high fantasy RPG that starts, apparently, with the end of the world. But it's basically based in current day Japan.
John Z @ Feb 15th 2008 11:26AM
I too am looking forward to this. I kind of wish it had a better name... something a little catchier, easier to say. Still, new Square-Enix properties are always welcome.
vgxtremist @ Feb 15th 2008 2:40PM
FINALLY, a release date for this game...I'm glad its not coming out till April so I can catch up on some games and also enjoy Ninja Gaiden.
Dan CiTi @ Feb 15th 2008 5:32PM
This looks kinda kool. I wanted I to be for console so it could be more like Kingdom Hearts (II) as far as gameplay though. I guess it'll be akin to that DS one.
BlackDS @ Feb 17th 2008 8:35AM
I can hardly wait. :)
Peace.
