Alone in the Dark tech demo shows gameplay, actual enemies
89
Finally, the rumors that the latest chapter in the Alone in the Dark series would be completely devoid of all life have been squelched by a tech demo for the game, released today. Not only does the video show off the intriguing "Real World Rules" engine (not to be confused with the Real World/Road Rules engine), it gives a small (okay, minuscule) sampling of some of the enemies you'll be going toe to toe with as you wander through Central Park like an acid-addled tourist.
Alright, we're done making fun of this game. Between the gorgeous lighting, the innovative inventory management system, and the seemingly endless weapon creation capabilities the game will provide, we must say that our interest is piqued. Hopefully the next episode in the series of tech demos will shed light on further Macgyverisms.

Give it a shot? Good sir, I dare say this game has made it's way into my top 5 games I NEED this year.
What a fantastic demo. The lighting and graphics are almost TOO good to be real. And that innovative inventory system is just want a survival horror genre needed. RE5 has a poop load to deliver now.

I find it amusing how things in the game are working more like real life, with fire and all that, but all of a sudden you have that sticky tape that is seemingly magic and sticks to all kinds of stuff like it's nobodys business.
The only thing that worries me about the game though is their mention of lost and 24 and episodic feel.

I gotta say that I really like the "Inside of the coat" inventory screen, that's a pretty awesome idea. Reminds me of the Merchant from RE4 =) Lets hope there's a little bit more sticky tape in the final version though.

Actually the "inside the coat" thing kind of made me think of that guy from sesame street. You know..."Psssst. Wanna buy a Q?" If only that muppet were selling sticky tape...

Since when does shooting a bottle of fuel cause an explosion? I don't really mind it, but I think they might want to change the name of their engine.

There's also the matter of the very tidy, straight line of liquid on the floor when you chuck a leaky bottle through the air. ^.^

The closest random fact I know about that matter comes from what I had learned from Mythbusters one day, basically about shooting a tank of gas and making it explode with a handgun.
Handguns couldn't pierce the tank, and rifles punctured holes and let the gas escape. It only blew up with huge incendiary rounds from a freakin huge military machinegun turret.
In other words, blowing up that bottle of fuel by shooting it is not likely at all, unless you have HUGE incendiary rounds firing at a rapid rate from a turret.

Except that wasn't a tank of gas.
However, even if it does explode (and it most certainly would), (a) it wouldn't have nearly the same amount of explosive power, and (b) it wouldn't be as flashy (remember, flashy explosions are generally 100% hollywood effects). Granted, it might be ably to do some damage to the rat it's stickied on, but by itself, it'll barely leave scorch marks on anything not in direct contact. The bullet would do more damage on direct application to flesh.

Completely gorgeous, I love how the lighting becomes and integral part of the gameplay (since it's often neglected).
But damn, that was overabuse of sticky tape.
