Alone in the Dark tech demo shows gameplay, actual enemies
89
Finally, the rumors that the latest chapter in the Alone in the Dark series would be completely devoid of all life have been squelched by a tech demo for the game, released today. Not only does the video show off the intriguing "Real World Rules" engine (not to be confused with the Real World/Road Rules engine), it gives a small (okay, minuscule) sampling of some of the enemies you'll be going toe to toe with as you wander through Central Park like an acid-addled tourist.
Alright, we're done making fun of this game. Between the gorgeous lighting, the innovative inventory management system, and the seemingly endless weapon creation capabilities the game will provide, we must say that our interest is piqued. Hopefully the next episode in the series of tech demos will shed light on further Macgyverisms.

I still remember when they had Deus Ex 2 in development and said that. Sounded like - "All our lights are dynamic and you can manipulate them to your advantage, hide in their shadows and all that cool stuff, as we now have the computing power to do such things."
Then the game released with a unified ammo system. You can imagine what happened to the lights...

grenade + sticky tape + gas line = profit.
hope there is some gun mods, really crazy stuff off of the monsters bodies and whatnot. and if there is allies, you definetly have to be able to give em a prick with the knife.

This game will probably rival Resident Evil 5.. I'm so pumped for it. I'm not one for horror games, but certain realistic Survival-Horrors really strike my fancy.

It looks interesting but I won't be getting it. For two reasons:
1. They delayed the PS3 version so I can't respect the developer.
2. When I saw it was third-person, I was like, cool.....but when you actually shoot it goes to first-person view.....not for me. I could overlook the delay part since they are probably trying to make the PS3 version just as good as the others or better....but I don't want a horror game with FP view....

Those are two of the dumbest reasons not to get this game.

Actually you can manually switch from first to third person. You can play in third all you want i guess.

Obviously the graphics on the PS3/360/PC version of this game is going to be far superior to the Wii, but I really hope they push the Wii graphics a bit.
Also, I hope they keep most of the features that you see in this demo.
I guess time will tell. I'm half expecting a much shitter version or a big delay on the Wii game.

How long until someone licenses this engine out for a MacGuyver game? Taking bets.

For me, it looks like a solid game. They have a few things to refine (obviously, or else they'd be releasing it now), but overall it looks fun as hell. They really took great attention to detail as far as things like in-game interactions between different materials, as well as the spectacular use of light.
I know we'll probably all be using the same amount of sticky tape if not more when we play the game, but it won't seem like we're using as much since every other word out of our mouths won't be "sticky tape" in an oddly fem-asculine voice.

Am i the only one who noticed the gas fluid the first time was coming out of his ass? I watched it with the volume off the first time and my instant reaction was "What the fuck..."

the lighting looks wonderful, but why can't we get away from hair that looks like a plastic wig? If we look at main characters so much, why don't developers try to make them look better? Anyhow, looks interesting, but the inventory system, neat as it seems, gives me concern that it will be filling up the screen every ten seconds. Maybe they used it so much to show it off, but I seriously hope you don't need to recur to it for every other action in the game...

Nice, looks very promising. I hope Atari doesn't screw this game up and make it suck in the end, or else I'll hate Atari for ruining a good premise like this.
Also, I'm wondering what would happen if you mix sticky tape with Battletoads...

Real life? shooting a plastic bottle of flammable liquid won't set it on fire, let alone blow it up.....
As for the super strong sticky tape, the whole place was specular mapped to fck, looks like it's all covered in gel, well done.
