PSP phone hints dropped in Sony magazine

If the test we performed during Podcast 37 was any indication, the Skype feature which was recently made available to PSPs, while neat, probably doesn't cut it when it comes to your main form of mobile communication. However, we can't be expected to carry around our cell phones and our PSPs. We only have one pair of multi-pocketed cargo pants, and, well, they really don't do much for our figure.
We might be in luck -- a recent issue of Sony Magazine has stoked the fires of a finely aged rumor that a PSP phone is currently in the works, possibly under Sony Ericsson. One article briefly mentions that a "PSP-style phone is apparently in development," and that the device could hit retail "as early as February." While it wouldn't be the first time Sony released a handheld upon an unsuspecting public with little to no fanfare, we would think we'd hear about something like this more than a month before it hits store shelves. We mean -- part gaming device, part mobile phone? The world's never seen anything like this before!

It sounds like it's PSP-style. Not built in. It even says "should be in shops". That's just my two cents though.

Oops, sorry didn't read it right.

I've always thought of this as a service to rival the N-Gage platform rather than it being some brand new gaming system. I'm guessing it'll run small games purchasable through some kind of online store.
And my troll post-
Oh sorry that's not the iPhone I don't care.

Technological convergence: definitely smells like potential Sony engineering, with a stylish job from their pro industrial designers.
Might be expensive though.

Well since I love my w580. I would like to have a PSP with phone capabilities.

Lol at least over here its crazy Winter right now. Thicker jackets with deeper inner pockets aren't so bad for PSP carrying.
I can still wear jeans, without "disfiguring" myself with gadgets =P.

well i recently entered the Smartphone realm with my newest cellphone and i can firmly say that i wont be buying anything other than Smartphones/PocketPCs from now on.
i guess it would be cool to have a Playstation phone though in theory but i would be afraid it would turn out like the N-Gage. it certainly has more brand strength than the N-Gage did. the only thing would be if it was more phone or more Playstation in the sense that it plays downloadable small mobile phone games or if it plays full out PSP/DS style games. either way it is an interesting prospect.

I'll pass. Unless it's cheap and sexy. Neither of which the Ngage was.
