P.S. Read a history book, dipshit. It might put things into perspective for you.

Nice, now HD DVD is defunct, the studios can turn up the encode quality to fill a 50GB disc, not be constrained by HD DVD limitations.

I am glad as a consumer, the superior format has won.

Yeah turning up the encode bitrate will be great.

Once that happens though I will bet uncompressed 7.1PCM soundtracks will disappear. Its nice that the some studios placed the uncompressed audio in place of just leaving extra space on the disc, but if it disappears I will be one of those people waiting for some solution to DTS-MA issue on the PS3.

I love these circular arguments and conspiracy theories it really adds some humor to my day. Unless you decide never to buy anything EVER, you are supporting big business. You know that toliet paper in your bathroom? Big Business. Are you going to stop using it? At the risk of alienating your friends and family, I find this highly unlikely.

The bottom line is HD-DVD is dead. Get over it. Big business has chosen the format for the consumer. It sucks, I know. Unfortunately the format "war" was never really about the consumer though.

It's amazing to me that when something like this happens the early adopters are always the ones that complain the loudest. Sure, you paid a high premium for first to market products. You knew the risks before jumping in. The abandonment of the format was a possible consequence of your choice.

But by all means, continue to buy unproven technology when it comes out. You pay for the R&D for the rest of us who were patient enough to wait it out.

XBOX360 FANBOY LOL MORE LIKE SONY FANBOY.

Ahh the xbox owners are to busy playing games so all thats trolling here are sony fanboys.Just another useless xbox site it seems.

Ill put you all up there with vgchartz and sony defense force on my list of faggots.

And by the way you still have to "unscrew shit" to take out the hdd and the price is still more expensive than the elite when you put it all together.

You have made no valid points or ever tryed to argue with the straight facts. As for buying a new controller lmao yeah drop 50 for a new controller or even worse 30 for a gimmick when for 15 or cheaper thru amazon or ebay i can just buy a new rechargeable battery.

Wow utter fail all over this thread.

I honestly believe sony fanboys are the dumbest people in the world i bet they vote for jackasses like obama too.

I will stand my ground i will not buy bluray i will just steal there shit like they have stolen the choice from consumers.

if you bought a ps3 you didnt have a choice you bought a bluray player you were never given the option to consider hddvd plain and simple.

Oh, RRoD.........

No, I never 'had' the option of going HD DVD. Why? Because after seeing the capacity differences and learning the PS3 would have BD I wasn't that stupid...........

But I shouldn't argue with someone who makes homophobic comments and suggests supporting Obama might be the preserve of stupid, bad people. Wassup, he another one of your "faggots". Worse, he's BLACK, right? Go back to your hole.

I will stop you right there, that is 100% false. If you don't believe me, I will add it up!

Xbox 360 Elite system: $449.99

Xbox 360 controller: $41.99 (amazon)

TOTAL: $772.00
+extra online play
+3-5weeks for RRoD to be fixed. (x3)

PS3 (40gb version): $399.99
Linksys adapter: $79.99
120gb HDD: $73.99
Online play: $0.00 (continuous)
Blu-ray player addon: $0.00
(since controller was brought up) Sixaxis: $43.99 (amazon)

Total: $598.00
+free blu-ray movie.

Tell me which is the better deal again. Please.

"I will stand my ground i will not buy bluray i will just steal there shit like they have stolen the choice from consumers."

They did not steal the choice from the consumers. The consumers had the choice, they bought Blu. I am sure that Warner going Blu was not because it was outselling 4:1 (sarcasm). It had to have been a bribe! OMG! CONSPERICY!
Its buisness, how long did MS pay for HDDVD to stay alive? And now its dead.

"if you bought a ps3 you didnt have a choice you bought a bluray player you were never given the option to consider hddvd plain and simple."

That is plain stupid, and you "should" know it. Most people who bought a ps3 early on, KNEW it was blu-ray, and that is WHAT they WANTED. Do not be mad that sony was smart enough to test their product, and include it in the system.

Please get the facts before you post. Or just go cry to MS, and suck their tit to please yourself.

To microsoft fanboys: Get the hell over it, MS will just make a blu-ray add on player, it's no big deal. They never really supported either bloody side.

To sony fanboys: Shut the hell up christ the xbox is dead in a few months? lol? Why? Cause it lost an *EXTENSION* that was never forced upon us, or needed to play games? Sony doesn't own blu-ray, Microsoft can easily have a blu-ray player add on ready.

It's just a stupid movie player my god fanboys it's not a "victory" for anyside.

Good post
NOTE: This was taken off Amazon, I did not write this.

''I love HD DVD and those of you who know me know that throughout this format war I consistently called for studio format neutrality to allow consumers to choose the winner (as opposed to payoffs from mega-corporations for the expressed purpose of denying consumers a choice)!

Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, I love my HD DVD player and will continue to enjoy the incredible quality of both my HD DVD collection and my upconverted DVD collection.

Most of the regulars on this site intuitively realized that having two HD formats was a very good thing for BOTH sides. It dramatically accelerated the price drop and encouraged competition to improve features and performance. That's why you never saw me call for Blu-Ray to "die" or "go away" because I knew that competition is good for everybody.

I cannot understand why some of the major corporations are willing to collaborate with Sony at this point, but history will tell the tale.

To those Blu-Ray fans that are celebrating now, I offer a warning... Be prepared for across the board price hikes.

If and when Toshiba decides to call this game, Sony will be changing all the rules both with its willing cohorts (I'm looking at you, WB, Fox, Disney, Netflix, and Panasonic) and with its customers (Thankfully, I will never be one!)

Right now, you may or may not realize that Sony has been paying off EVERYBODY that it can find in order to deny consumers choice in format. That's right, unlike the VHS/Beta war, consumers never had a chance to vote on this one. This contest was decided by paying off all of the right companies until HD DVD which had an exceptional product at launch and played an honest game had nowhere to turn. If studios had been neutral throughout this contest is there ANYBODY out there that honestly believes that HD DVD wouldn't have CRUSHED Blu-Ray?

So what happens now? Well as soon as it is officially over. Sony will wait a week and then "renegotiate" its contracts with every studio. No more free Blu-Ray discs for you WB, Disney, and Fox... Those discs are going to cost you X dollars per unit + the standard Blu-Ray "trademark" fee. How can they do that? Simple... There will no longer be any choice.

And Panasonic, Samsung and Denon... Those hardware licensing fees that Sony slashed to compete with HD DVD's incredible prices just went back up too + the same the standard Blu-Ray "trademark" fee. Don't like it? Too bad, because you no longer have a choice!

And guess what? Those profile 2.0 players that you wanted to come in at a super low consumer friendly price? Not going to happen. Sony will drag its feet getting them to market now while milking top dollar out of the existing obsolete 1.0 and 1.1 players that up until recently they were going to have to dump in a fire sale. Don't be surprised if the BD standalones for Christmas 2008 are priced for even more money than those at Christmas 2007. How can they do that? Simple, you no longer have a choice!

But we still get the Amazon Blu-Ray BOGO's right? Nope. No reason for Sony to sponsor BOGO's anymore. You will pay top dollar and you will like it, mister! Why? Because you no longer have a choice!

So who loses here? EVERYBODY but Sony! The studios that in their short-sightedness wanted a quick end to the format war at ANY cost will end up paying BILLIONS more for the unique privilege of releasing on Blu-Ray. Likewise, the manufacturers who thought Sony was their friend get the shaft and pay millions in licensing fees and suffer a much flatter and slower hardware price decrease than when there was a viable alternative HD format out there. And what about the retailers? Walmart could be selling HD-A3's today at $99.00 a pop and instead they will be hawking obsolete 1.0 and 1.1 BD boxes for $300.00.

And what does that mean for the CONSUMERS? The consumers are the ones that will ultimately absorb all of these price hikes that will trickle down from every direction including the studios, hardware manufacturers, retailers and even the advertisers. That's right, it's the Blu-Ray fans that will pay more and keep paying more until or unless another alternative format else comes along.

Something to think about... ''

why support a format that is already on a sinking ship
i guess you must be the captain of ship hd-dvd and guess you feel the need to go down with it..

you know what you are just in denial of the reality that surrounds you, and rather than cut your loses you defend something that is effectivly dead in a couple months, no amount of support youi give it now will change anything...

The war is over, blu ray won... its time to just let hd-dvd die..

Remind us: how much did MS pay out last year to keep their supporters red and prolong a format war they has already lost and was stifling HD development and expansion. Wasn't it $150m each for a two-year contract to stay exclusive? Yeah, I went there. And not a single person has proved that Warner got a penny at all from Sony. More likely blue outselling red by four to one convinced a profit-making business to make a final choice.

Don't throw out the selective references to money exchanging hands. MS prolonged the format war with their chequebook; *if* Sony did dole out some greens - again, never proved - it shortened the war and gave us a clear winner.

Just think, MS and Toshiba screwed all those people who bought red over the past six months. Buy our dying format then we'll quit and leave you with obsolete equipment!

Well I'm not really fussed by this, I've just been waiting until one of the formats die then I'd buy one. Both of the formats look the same from what I've seen from my friends TV's. And the price will go down eventually. I suppose next-next-gen consoles will all have blu-ray drives now, but the extra storage space will come in handy for developers struggling to cram everything one one disk (assassin's creed language options anybody?).

It's amazing how many people have suddenly moved over in favour of digital downloads in the last 24 hours......

Give it ten years and you might be right! But only after several hundred million BD sales. And when 99% of the infrastructure is replaced.

and there are people out there that still prefers to buy somthing tangable like a cd, dvd and even a blu-ray disc rather than sit at home, download the movie on to the hard drive... and then watch it, then delete it to make room for another movie,,, then having to redownload the movie if they want to watch it again..
but with dvds or blu-ray diosc all you got to do is put it into your player again and watch, no need to redownload

hard physical media will always be around...

Yeah... there's a blu ray association, just like there were several behind hd dvd. But Blu Ray is still mostly Sony's baby, just like Toshiba was associated with HD DVD. And as far as new features, good luck getting them on any player that's not a PS3. There didn't *need* to be one format- the studios that supported both were not losing money in the end, and competition is best for the consumer. But whatever... I'll stick with DVD until they actually *finalize* the profile or come up with a player that can be updated.

I am getting a PS3 when it comes with the new controller and when they sort out their sku's. (So I'll own a Blu-Ray player shortly) I think when "early adopters" feel screwed, it's their own fault. Don't early adopt anything if you "fear" price changes or format changes. I am an early adopter and I don't feel slighted, screwed or upset. On to the next piece of technology!

Anyone with both systems should agree that it ended the best way it could. it would be a bigger loss to loose Blu-ray for the ps3 then just an add-on for the 360.

blu-ray is a pretty important part of the ps3 hd-dvd was not for the 360.

And what exactly has Sony done? They produced the better technology, and it became the winner.

Bundling the Blu-ray drive in the PS3, and actually waiting until it was ready and reliable was a very smart move. If only Microsoft were that smart, they could have actually had a chance to win this gaming generation, instead Microsoft rushed out the 360, without any form of testing, and skipped important features like HD DVD and HDMI.

Hahaha, Adam!! LOLL. First of all, Halo 3 looks like shit comparing to ANY current gen games. You must be a blind fool to think otherwise. Not to mention how shitty the game is.

Sony never forced anyone with blu-ray, even if you did buy a PS3 they never told you to go out and buy the movies or anything.

Oh noes, the PS2 has built-in Dvd drive! Screw that shit!! Omg damn Sony forcing me to use this shitty dvd drive! Why can't they be like the Wii! I don't want to watch movies on it!! Hahah you crack me up.

Who still argues about the Prices of the consoles??!?! The PS3 is not overpriced anymore so stfu. Comparing to any other consoles, it is doing very well for its first year. You do the research and you'll see. The only reason why multi-platform games are better for the 360 ATM is because it is still new and developers haven't gotten used to it yet. It only took 1 year (Not even for some places) to produce identical games as the 360 which is almost at it's limits already. Look at lost odyssey, it requires what, 4 discs and the lag is horrible. Wait a little more and we'll see who's laughing. Besides, only in US is where the Xbox360 actually sells, so yeah.

I own all three systems, so I can enjoy all three anyway. I'm glad you're so busy playing your games that you don't have time to post in this thread. LOLLL. Thanks for the laugh Adam!!

Halo3 does not look like shit it looks better than cod4 personally and if you say otherwise your fucking blind. The color the trees look far superior to anything out there. If you had an hdtv you may notice how good halo looks.I was playing last nite after a few hours of cod4 and i was astonished at how vivid the game looks and sharp and detailed the maps and charicters are in halo3.You can see the sun glisten of f the helmets etc.

Im sorry but the only reason people talk shit about halo is there jealous fanboy idiots such as yourself.

As for people saying that 360=more expensive last time i checked you didnt need the hddvd drive to play games so exclude that out of your total price and then adding in a controller what an idiot my 360 came with a controller.

Sony did force it because they put it in the console with the intention of selling movies so there you made yourself look like an idiot.Do you think sony would have put bluray in for the consumer if they had nothing to gain?

your ass dumb as you sound it seems.

All i know is the 360 is the better console hands down walk into the store cruise the game isles and tell me whos got better exclusives in stores?
whos got more games in stores for this gen consoles?
Whos got the best online service?
Whos got the better os?

Answer MICROSOFT plain and simple and if you think otherwise i will tap you on the head with a tackhammer becuase you are a retard.

LOL ADAM AGAIN !! HAHA

Seriously, who else here thinks Halo looks better then COD4? Yeah okay lol. Jealous? I have ALL three systems, 60inch Sony HDTV in my living room, and favorite Halo 3. Why would I be Jealous of you?

Yeah the Xbox360 does not require HD-DVD to play games that's one reason it will not be the winner in the console war. Limited space. You'll be lying to yourself if you are saying that memory space is NOT a problem nowadays as games grow bigger and bigger each release. Sony does not force you to use it because it is not only used for movies but for games too retard. You buy the PS3 for games, fine, but oh look you have the OPTION to buy Blu-ray movies for it too! Sweet. No one is forcing you dumb shit. Is there a problem with a company hoping it will gain something in return of putting high quality tech in their hardware? LOL wtf is wrong with you. Sony is a company, every companies goal is to make a profit, your point is? Atleast it's not selling half-ass consoles that are known to break easily. If you did your research, your favorite Xbox360 were known to have this many problems including the RROD but they released it anyway. What makes them for releasing such a crappy hardware???

Do I have to remind you that the PS3 came out over a year later then the 360? Who expects it to have more games and exclusives? For the first year I bet it has better titles then the 360 did. Best online service? LOL Sure there is less content on the PSN but it's free, and constantly updating. The wireless connection is awesome too, unlike what Microsoft is charging you for it. What was it, $100 for it? Hahah. For now it is a fact that it is BETTER but there is no doubt that it will catch up. Better OS? Oh please try harder.
