First early footage of Samba de Amigo for Wii
Since it was revealed months ago, rhythm gamers have wondered what Samba de Amigo for the Wii would actually look like in action. Now that Dutch site SegaOnline has put up what's reportedly the first footage from an early build of the game, it turns out that the Wii version looks ... a lot like the Dreamcast version.
While the return of the game's signature aesthetic and gameplay is inspiring, the actual controls displayed on the video are much less so. The below footage shows the on-screen "maraca" location sensor jumping around like a Mexican bean as the player shakes it up. A rough translation of the site's report even goes so far as to say that "this version is not even equipped with good control." Here's hoping Gearbox can fix that, er, minor problem by the time the game sees eventual release.

This is relevant to my interests.

Why does it seem like so few developers grasp this motion-control concept? I'd say it was a problem with the Wii, but it seems like the PS3 suffers from it too. And I now KNOW that some devs can get it right (Nintendo games, Capcom games, Grasshopper Manufacture and Warhawk all prove this).
Maybe Nintendo/Sony should send out their people to the third parties to teach them a thing or two.
Samba CANNOT afford to get these controls wrong!
Duscrom @ Feb 18th 2008 5:10PM
I dunno, all those games, save for Warhawk... use pretty simple motion controls.

You're giving him way too much credit.
Three times too much, to be exact.

SIMCLIS!
Mr.ESC @ Feb 18th 2008 2:27PM
Wait to wiimotes? Oh snap.
Seriously they couldn't use the wiimote and the nunchuck?
Anyhow if this succeed I hope the next title is a new Sonic Adventure game except properly done and a new Crazy taxi.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 18th 2008 2:30PM
Look a hivemind,Where is my pesticide?
Is it true that if I kill the leader the others will automatically die?
qo_op @ Feb 18th 2008 2:38PM
Sigh........Anyone want to buy a wii?
jorojoserojas @ Feb 18th 2008 2:42PM
Millions.
Cesaria @ Feb 18th 2008 2:47PM
I would but I waited in the cold for one on launch day and have had no problems whatsoever with it. Great system.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 18th 2008 2:48PM
Yeah why bother is not like the Wii have AMAZING titles such as Super Paper Mario, Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Ex,No more heroes,Zelda,Fire emblem, Umbrella Chronicles.
Or B/C with gamecube titles such as Eternal Darkness or Resident evil 0.
Or even the fact that the VC allows you to play Super mario 64,Fzero,Super Metroid and other classic titles for all of us which Snes doesn't work anymore or didn't have a N64 back at the time because we were too busy playing Silent hill and Diablo.
Oh and this probably the best game the Wii will ever have ( lol ) and the best part is that this is the Wii killer app and is developed by Nintendo and since we all have time machines we all played it and now all we know how bad it is.
BJ Moneyheffer @ Feb 18th 2008 2:56PM
You just turned the sarcasm up to 11.
qo_op @ Feb 18th 2008 3:10PM
someones a little defensive about the "wii"
Zertoss @ Feb 18th 2008 2:47PM
There's no leader in a hivemind.
Mr.ESC @ Feb 18th 2008 2:50PM
That's lie. Hiveminds say that because they don’t want people to know the true.
There is a leader hidden within the hivemind, when its gone the hive will either disband, go nuts or die.
deaftly @ Feb 18th 2008 3:07PM
sorry guys but this is just lame.
wit @ Feb 18th 2008 3:48PM
What song is that? I've heard that somewhere... soccer game...
phextin @ Feb 18th 2008 4:06PM
The song comes from a German-techno group name Bellini. Their most popular song today is "Samba De Janeiro" (1997) which is feature in the Samba De Amigo games. There is even a dance that goes with it, very similar to the "Macarena".
Martin @ Feb 18th 2008 4:28PM
Samba de Jiniero (spelling is off, I think)
Phextin @ Feb 18th 2008 4:07PM
Wow this girl really suck, but so did s lot of people on the Dreamcast. I guess this game is not just for anyone.
Martin @ Feb 18th 2008 4:29PM
To be honest, when this game was out for the dreamcast, the maracas were impossible for me to find, so I just played with the controller. I had a freaking blast doing it that way.
So, I'll be the lone one in the corner hoping for classic controller support.
Mr Khan @ Feb 18th 2008 5:00PM
Eh, sensitivity issues usually end up getting fixed (although options are always good)
I'll wait and hope. Wii is becoming the revival ground for the great SEGA franchises, and a Saturn/Dreamcast era SEGA fan like myself is overjoyed with this sort of thing
MortifiedocAlot @ Feb 18th 2008 7:19PM
It's like guitar hero, but fun.
RotBot @ Feb 18th 2008 7:49PM
I'm not surprised about the control issues. I predicted when the game was first announced that the controls won't work as well as the original game unless they use an extra proximity sensor accessory like on the Dreamcast. Relying on the orientation and motion sensors alone makes the placement detection much more restrictive.
The article also mentions that so far, there isn't an option for playing with two wiimotes. Unless Gearbox adds this and tightens the controls, this game won't be worth purchasing.
NiGHTS @ Feb 20th 2008 2:02AM
Since few have you have played with the maracas on the dreamcast version because Sega botched that big time...I assure you that this looks no different control wise then the old version. In fact this looks more accurate then the IR controller for the dreamcast...sad isn't it?
