I would bet this is for a revamping of LIVE for the fall. They should be doing stuff for spring too, but they wouldn't be hiring for this kind of person for that.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a free service.

how about better DRM rules (or no DRM)?? tried playing RockBand the other week with a friend's HDD, we swapped the HDDs (because he had downloaded all the extra songs), linked up to XBL, took it offline to plug into the HDTV downstairs, and NOTHING. no extra songs. so next time we meet he's just going to bring his whole x360 system. fucking lame, MS. lucking fame.

...it's for this reason that I refuse to buy any XBLA game.

I'm not so sure that the job posting is referencing an X-Box Live Revamp for the next-gen MS console. To me, a "totally new LIVE experience" sounds like they are developing it on an entirely new platform, i.e. the mobile platform, OR a brand new, as-yet-unannounced HANDHELD platform.

I'd buy an X-Boy.

This is just a plot to buy up the talent so Sony can't hire anyone to make their network better. Don't you see it!

Maybe its for someone to aid in giving out free unicorns and bags of gold to all of us who use Live, and they are going to come by our house and give back rubs too!

People are getting their hopes up for nothing.

Is it weird that I don't like back rubs?

I am not sure you should look too much into it. I think this job is the same that was probably talked about when the 360 was in development. The integration with XBL is far greater, and can be seen a Live 2.0 to some, than it was on the original Xbox. The next one will probably just be able to do more, as did the 360 compared to the original.

- better profile DRM

- honestly, a cleaner, more simple interface. current dashboard is a cluster.

- on the hardware end, the ability to upgrade with standard hard drives.

Overall, I really like the XBL service, they just seem to get a bit excited about features and throw them in without really thinking about the rest of the interface. Bring a little order to the chaos. And, get ads off the dashboard. Why are ads on a paid service anyway? If you must have ads, keep them on the Marketplace tab.

Judging by the rampant rumors of the xbox handheld game system in a sidekick package, this article makes me think that they're working on a mobile xbox live.
