Fernando: what does this have to do with the PS3? If you're incapable of rationally discussing it that's fine, but stop commenting. Pointing to another systems flaws or shortcomings doesn't excuse the Wii of its own.

Sid Space:

c'mon man, everyone knows that the motion controls in SBB and now mario kart are sub-par compared to the old controls. Nintendo had no choice but to cater to the old crowd because they would have revolted at the horrible level of control those "revolutionary controllers" offered.

Again, 'sub-par'? Where does it say in the article that the motion controls are subpar? Please point it out to me.

And wtf is SBB?

LOL @ Fernando

The PS3 never touted the Sixaxis as changing how you play games, and building a whole system around it. It is intended to immerse you deeper, not how you play games. But nintendo has said that it is so "innovative" and will "change how you play games".

Fernando, you make it sound like you're the only one who has experienced the Wii. Well, you are not. The Wiimote has yet to prove itself to me as better than dual analogs for anything. I own a Wii and Metroid Prime 3, and you know what? I keep wishing for dual analogs when I'm playing the game. The only fun part of the Wiimote controls for Metroid is pulling shit off with the grapple beam. I just love to yoink the shield off of enemies, but even that gets old. Even with controls set to advanced, the aiming isn't as precise as what I've experience with dual analogs in games such as Halo 3. Plus, the Wiimote is affected by IR noise, so the window, other lights in the room, my girlfriends candles etc, all fuck up the signal and kill any accuracy it could have. It's bullshit that I have to pretty much prepare a dark room and clear a perfectly clean line of sight in order to play a game system.

AirIntake, you do know that you can easily change the Wii Pointer's sensitivity to block out the other lights in the room via the menu? Having played Metroid Prime 3 and the much better (control-wise, that is) Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, I can safely say that pointer >>> dual analog. MP3:C probably isn't the best indicator of this, but even that game showed the possibility that pointer control could allow for precision nearing that of keyboard and mouse, and Medal of Honor is definite proof of that.

Medal of Honor Heroes 2 as a game isn't all that, but the controls easily surpass any console FPS I've played.

Yes, I have adjusted the sensitivity. Even without interference though, I still don't see a precision advantage with the Wiimote. Sorry, but I really don't.

I'll probably use the Wii Wheel or the classic control, depending on how good the motion sensing is. Its nice that they give gamers the option, I just it hope it doesn't lead games copping out on motion sensing. It's the exclusive feature of the console.

Oh, and, thanks to Fernando and Noshino I'm back into Mario Kart Double Dash!! Nosh, you were right, it does feel like an evolution of kart games, not because of the whole two players per kart thing but because of the way the game controls and feels. Definitely my favorite... or it would be, but I still think MKDS is rocking.

JSN, you gotta be kidding me! Everyone knew SSBB wasn't going to be focused on the motion sensing long before that Wii came out. As far as the Wii Wheel and motion sensing the dang article actually said there was an advantage to that control set up. The feature here is a matter of preference, hardcore gamers wanted the option to not use motion controls, many have said that for some time, it's really not a problem as long as motion sensing is playable and enjoyable. In a driving game it should be.

Whether you like the Wii or not calling the Wii scam or a gimmick is just plan fanboyish seeing how there are games that have come out that are better because of the controls with the Wii, and there's an opportunity to make brand new experiences with we albeit it's not happened as often as it should.

JSN, relax... please. The intensity of your comments/replies make for very uncomfortable reading.

You've made some ok points, but you're being far too cynical. More to the point, you've only garnered those views from looking at it from one perspective and that is your own, but I strongly suggest you look at things from other people's perspectives.

Clearly as a "traditional gamer" you've decided the Wii is not for you; fair enough... no-one's forcing you to like it, but I can assure you those controllers in the hands of a non-traditional gamer are indeed revolutionary.
A gaming revolution is what got millions of people back into games, and they don't care whether it's a Nintendo effort or a 3rd party effort for as long as they can play the game.

I'm your "traditional gamer" too and I love all types of games on various consoles, but let me tell you this... whenever there's any family-gathering round my place and there's a bunch of us watching TV and I bring out the Wii for a bit of playtime, everyone is up for it and everyone loves it. No other console has that effect and believe me I've tried!

As far as I'm concerned, that is a gaming revolution.

Couple of things;

Multiple control options = good

Multiple control options do not negate the innovations that the wiimote brings to the table

Wiimote/Nunchuck is far superior to dual analog sticks for FPS. You'd have to be braindead to think otherwise.

As far as the third party first party debate goes, does it really matter where the great games come from? as long as they come..no. Would the Xbox or PS be as appealing without Halo, Mass Effect, Crackdown, Uncharted, Ratchet, Killzone, etc?

Jsn you are as disturbed as fernanso is annoying. It really is kind of scary.

I'm not really exaggerating, I'm a PC gamer and the interface for FPS (and third person shooters) is important to me, the Wii has the by far the best option for consoles. IMO

I was a little harsh with the braindead comment though, I would edit If I could.

I also prefer Wiimote/Nunchuck to duel analogs. For me, it was much more precise and more fun as well.

Oh, and TC81190, I don't think that it's a hyperbole, I believe that it is a paradox.

Oy, are we still stuck on the "Wii remote is a gimmick" shtick?

I, for one, am glad that they gave us some options when it comes to controls. Options are always nice. Plus I hear the wheel won't jack up the price of the game! (still $50) So its a plus in my book.

The preview also sounds very optimistic about the game, so I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

will this game keep snaking? if not, that will ruin the whole game. Mario Kart without snaking is lame.

"an uncomfortable lack of precision"

Yeah. Right. I'm sorry, what the fuck are people talking about? Anyone who's played Excite Eruck knows that motion controls for steering compare to analogue stick controls like a mouse compares to a fucking laptop trackpad.

But, keep hammering on that Wii guys! It'll fail yet if you just keep at it! Yeah! Keep telling yourself that!

Haha, oh man.

Kudos to Nintendo for deciding to offer control options to the gamer. Good to see they learned something from the slow motion trainwreck that was Sony's response to Lair's "controls".

So lemme get this right, is this yet another game for Wii that doesn't really use what the system is made for? seems like Nintendo, with Super Mario Galaxy barely using the wii remote, Smash Bros apparently being playable with a standard controller, and now this, are they really utilizing the systems capabilities? had a wii for a good while and I still think Wii Sports is and will be the best game released for that system. nothing released since really provides as much fun or innovation as that game.

What are the capabilities, huh? Think to yourself what can be done along the lines of motion sensing... in Mario Kart. Uh, duh, motion steering.

Would you rather they had made that the only option? Some of us embrace choice instead of whining about it.

Keep in mind the three series you specified in your post - Mk, Sm, and Ssb - have all been done on previous systems, and too much of a change would likely offset fans.
