Update: Thanks to zizzy, we've posted a better, lengthier video showcasing Epic's entire presentation. And not only does the water look hotter than ever, but the Unreal Engine's new destructible environments, beefed up lighting, high density crowds and cube of meat are equally as hot. Man, will GoW2 benefit from destructible enivornments ... simply amazing!
Today, Epic Games showed off the latest build of their hella popular Unreal Engine 3, showcasing the engine's latest additions and enhancements. Their tech demo videocomplete tech demo video (embedded above) is a real-time, in engine demo of the Unreal Engine's latest feature, Dynamic Fluid Surfaces. And we'll be the first to jump on the Dynamic Fluid Surfaces bandwagon, because this water is HOT! Hot in an "omg that's amazingly hot" kind of way. Even better is the fact that Mr. Marcus Fenix is used to demo the new water effect which pretty much means that A) we're looking at Gears of War 2's engine in the flesh and B) GoW2's water is going to be freakin' hot! Just look at that water ... so delicious.
He's right, you can mark him down all you like but Uncharted's water is just plan incredible. Besides, this isn't GOW water it's Unreal3 water and all systems can run Unreal.
PS3 and no I'm not a fanboy...i like all the systems and own all the systems. Just not impressed by this. It's good but not the best I've seen, simple as that.
I don't think so, it's possible, but I don't think so, but even so I think the PS3 handles the water physics better. Just my opinion, so please don't shoot me down. Just being honest.
I don't know if you seen the clip with 1000 locust running, but that was pretty damn amazing...Gears 2 looks like it's gonna deliver;) I just hope there's gonna be some new weapons...
The part where there was a whole mess of locust...please, oh please Lord please tell me there's a part like that in GOW2 where a troika is one of the options! I will cross my fingers until release date!
The water looked a little unrealistic (pardon the pun). It reacted too much when Marcus was walking in it. The water looked a little too viscous, maybe on the Gears planet water is thick enough to cut with a knife (kidding, of course). It reminded me of the water in the Baldur's Gate games for the PS2 and Xbox. I think the water in Halo 3 and Uncharted reacted appropriately and looked better doing it.
That was some impressive stuff right there! I think this is the Unreal Engine 3.5, sorry to say, but .5 has got so much better than the original 3.0...
I agree with daniel. It's a step up, but the water looks like nothing compared to the water on Uncharted. No, they dont use the same engine. Naughty Dog builds their own engine and doesn't use the unreal one. I'm not a fanboy, I have both systems... but if you wanna say the water looks great... you better tell epic games to make it look better... because after I saw uncharted this is nothing.
