GDC08: Hands-on with the Logitech Driving Force GT

The wheel feels incredibly sturdy, and offers a surprising amount of resistance when making turns, crashing into walls, and more. The force offered by the wheel rivals those found in arcade cabinets. The wheel makes Gran Turismo 5 feel like a completely different game. Playing in cockpit mode with the controller is incredibly immersive. With wheel in hand, this does feel like the "real driving simulator" that GT promises to be.
While the wheel is impressive, we were a bit underwhelmed by the pedals, which lack the heft that makes the wheel so impressive. The pedals need a bit more resistance to feel a bit more realistic, and need to be heavier, so they don't move forward so much. Regardless, we're impressed by this incredible effort of bringing home an arcade experience. Considering the asking price ($150), Logitech needed to make a high quality peripheral. We think they succeeded.

Not sure if this is supposed to be an upgrade to the G25, but if so... is a good deal at $150. Hopefully it has a clutch pedal and the optional stick shift addon.

Ok, you damn Nintendo Fanboy, you're wrong wrong wrong wrong! And here's why...
**writes 27-page rant**
...no point of reference...
**cat jumps on desk, steps on Backspace key for a good 3 minutes**
...and Mario Kart doesn't even have realistic physics anyway, so there! Wait.... noooooo!

I still don't understand why they are downgrading from the G25....gimme clutch and a 6 way shifter!
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 20th 2008 7:26PM
G25 also works with GT5P. I would think that offering the G25 as the official GT5P wheel at $300 would just be a recipe for zero sales.

This wheel is NOT intended as an upgrade from the G25, rather it only represents a lower price point. Not everyone is willing to spend $300 on a wheel. This wheel for half the price of a G25 is a pretty good compromise.

As a normal gamer, I still have a hard time being persuaded of any justification of buying a wheel peripheral.
I guess it's not my thing.

this is not an upgrade to the g25 it is an upgrade to the driving force pro all they really did was add the two controls on the wheel to make on the fly adjustments to your car while you are in a race
