GDC08: New WiiWare title unveiled: LostWinds
14
UK developer Frontier Developments (Thrillville) announced a new title for Nintendo's WiiWare service today, titling the adventure platformer LostWinds. We have a gallery of screenshots below that you can thumb through for a preview of the game's stylized art direction.
LostWinds stars Toku, a young boy who has discovered a wind spirit in a land threatened by its power-hungry sun/moon spirit. You'll move Toku around using the nunchuck's analog stick while aiding him with Wii remote gestures commanding the wind elemental. A quick controller movement can send a breeze or even a tornado to power Toku's jumps, glide him across distances, blow away enemies, and solve puzzles.
Frontier Developments hasn't yet announced a release date or price, but the studio is hoping to put LostWinds out with WiiWare's US launch this May 12th.

According to IGN's preview, it's a launch title.
It looks really nice.

I must say, I'm overly impressed with a number of the wii ware titles. I was expecting xbox live type simple arcade games, but there are quite a few "full" games coming out, including this, Final Fantasy, and that one that looks like it was influenced by Patapon.
I've never been one to want to buy many games that don't come with packaging, but I may spend a few bucks on these games if the price is right.

If anything, these WiiWare titles make all VC games overpriced. I mean, who wants to pay 5 bucks for Donkey Kong Jr Math when you can buy these kinds of titles?

im with you on that. the VC is way overpriced for what it offers. ive purchased 6 games and played them maybe 5 times each. i got the most out of Paper Mario since i never had a N64 and missed it. other than that they are way overpriced for games that have for the most part seen better days.

The games I've bought are Sin and Punishment, since I had never actually played it, Zelda Ocarina of Time, since I had never actually *owned* it (even if buying games via VC doesn't constitute as 'owning'), Super Metroid since I hadn't beat it, then 'classic' favorites like Contra 3, DKC2, Super Mario World, etc

Looks like a mix between Okami, Wind Waker, and LittleBigPlanet.

I'm game. I too would like to see the VC prices dropped, but I've found interesting ways around the problem. See, Wii Points cards are accessories, and stores often have sales on accessories. I recently purchased 5 cards for $40. That brings the cost structure down to $2/$3.20/$4. Much better if you ask me.

Walmart, Kmart, Target, and Toys R Us all have periodic clearances on games and accesories. Join cheapassgamer.com to get in on the forums where deals are posted.
Recently, TRU had a buy one get one, so thats 4000 points for $20. Walmart has had these holiday bundles with the points card + classic controller cover on sale from $24.98. I've seen them for as low as $8 so naturally I grabbed what I could.

Looks like it definitely has promise. I'll wait to see more of the game before making a decision, but it sure looks like this might be another WiiWare game that I buy day 1.

You would not think that to be a British game, reading its description. Still looks great though. WiiWare is strong

Why do a lot(most/all) WW games sound/look/probably play better than pretty much every other disc based Wii game? Not to mention the lower price point.... Looks like some devs may have to actually develop a proper Wii game now....
