Chris Eden from Sony Computer Entertainment made mention of PLAYSTATION Store on PSP in his Game Developers Conference session. Currently, players must use a PC in order to download content and transfer it to the PSP. Going forward, PSP fans will be able to download games directly to their systems from within the PSP itself. "Access native PLAYSTATION Store on PSP via wireless hotspot," the slide notes. "Purchase and download content direct to PSP (no USB cable)." Launch is currently "TBA." More details are promised for the future. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long.

There isn't one?
Tranando @ Feb 20th 2008 6:22PM
The current system works well. Most PSP owners have either a PC or a PS3 to get the online content. This makes it slicker, but I hope it's not at the top of Sony's TODO list.

Great! More promises and no dates. Just like Sony!
loungemonkey @ Feb 20th 2008 6:28PM
So delays are just like Sony & Nintendo then huh?
Tranando @ Feb 20th 2008 6:38PM
What does it matter to you? You don't own a PSP or PS3, and enjoy cutting off your nose yo spite your face.
Mike @ Feb 20th 2008 7:01PM
Thanks for telling me what I do own. I didn't realize you knew me so well!
These are the consoles that I currently own.
PS3 60GB
PSP
Wii (not in use. since I'm pretty bored with the waggle.)

About friggin time. I like the community efforts for downloadable demos/wallpapers and all that junk out there.
Steam for PSP needed.
Wait what am I saying - it isn't here yet!

If I'm able to download Chrono Cross onto my psp cable-less the count me in.
Vexorg @ Feb 20th 2008 6:44PM
To put it nicely, the PC version of the Playstation store could use some work, especially the downloader. Hopefully downloading directly to the PSP will work much better (although that still leaves the minor issue of the store's backend arbitrarily rejecting my debit card, making it just a bit hard to actually buy stuff...)

When this happens can we expect more PS1 classics? No. But here's to hoping.
Autopsy15 @ Feb 20th 2008 8:09PM
I would care if the PSP didn't suck.
James @ Feb 20th 2008 9:24PM
Yea. I've had to put bluetac in inbetween the battery and cover since it was so wobbley. And I haven't touched a PSP game, it really is just a portable PS1 emulator.
Doesn't help when devs build half decent games and then just throw them onto the PS2.
Autopsy15 @ Feb 20th 2008 10:34PM
And it doesn't help that almost every games control scheme absolutely sucks. And none of the games are really fun. Luckily, I still got the ol' stand by...my DS.

3 things:
1. I'll believe it when i see it, in the mean time its non-existant.
2. MAKE THE BROWSER BETTER! the browser is buggy slow, and just terrible.
3. Get rid of the UMD.

Its funny how when someone simply mentions something as a simple comment for developers and not the consumer community, they jump on him like rats. The slide was not even suppose to be seen by you people. The talk was about self-publishing for independent games for the psn and it was mentioned for developers on what they should look forward to in terms of visibility and accessibility for their games. Calm the down, and stop talking like you guys know everything. There is no date because it is still in its development phase. It comes out when it comes out. It is geared towards developers. Are you a developer? Were you at a lecture? Than stop talking.
