Rumor: Canadian Xbox 360 price drops $50 Friday

Thanks to an anonymous tipster, we have early word on what might be an upcoming price drop for the Canadian Xbox 360. The above phonecam photo comes from a FutureShop Canada employee, who says he was "quite surprised" to find a $50 price drop for the Xbox 360 Pro Console advertised right on the front page of next week's advertising fliers. Our source also tells us that the inside of the flier trumpets a $50 price drop for the XBox 360 Elite (to $449), an offer which allegedly includes a free copy of Turok.
Both price drops should be effective Friday, if this rumor proves true, and while we have no way of confirming this information as of yet, we have no explicit reason to doubt it either. Regardless, if you're a Canadian looking to buy an Xbox 360, it couldn't hurt to wait a couple of days to see if you can save a bit of

Lol from a Canadian viewpoint, it's really convenient, cuz you don't gotta look at the numbers.
I guess you guys are used to it, but whenever we hit the states, it causes a bit of ruffle in terms of finding the correct cash in them wallets =P.
Intentless @ Feb 20th 2008 10:54AM
American money is horribly boring when compared to the currencies of the world. I personally am all for putting some variety into the paper bills...
Jerk Face @ Feb 20th 2008 11:05AM
@Intentless
Hell yeah. Canadian money looks way better than ours.
DjDATZ @ Feb 20th 2008 11:12AM
AND you CAN'T confuse the bills even if you tried!
Zertoss @ Feb 20th 2008 11:17AM
Here in Texas, there are a few places that have stopped accepting cash, which is fine by me, since I pay for everything with a debit card. Our cash sucks.

Who's got funny money now? :P
NATO_Duke @ Feb 20th 2008 10:42AM
Thats a good deal, eh?
glitched @ Feb 20th 2008 10:50AM
it's aboot time, eh?
XanthouS @ Feb 20th 2008 10:43AM
Free copy of Turok? That's just cruel.
Couldn't they just kick you in the nuts, keep the game, and call it a deal?
Chameleon @ Feb 20th 2008 10:53AM
heh, +1 for you sir ....
FOXHOUND @ Feb 20th 2008 10:55AM
Now, now... since it's TUROK, they'd kick you in the nuts in a dark cave while making generic dinosaur noises. That way, no one has to deal with the game itself, but pain is still felt.
Co @ Feb 20th 2008 11:55AM
Yeah it was pretty funny how there were actually gamers that were hyping that game before its release. It had epic fail written all over it.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 20th 2008 12:34PM
I wouldn't say 'hype' so much as 'hope' that it might be even *remotely* as fun as the N64 games...
...but much like a chick cutting you off at 2nd base, it angrily disappointed.
Nascar Dog @ Feb 20th 2008 5:11PM
I find it hard to believe they would give away a game that is only 2 weeks old. Even if some people hate it....
Curmeo @ Feb 20th 2008 10:45AM
haha M$ is desperate
Zertoss @ Feb 20th 2008 10:50AM
Futureshop in Canada is offering a $50 discount on 2 Xbox 360 models, so obviously this is a desperation move by Microsoft, who is neither Futureshop or Canadian.
Your logic is astounding.
Chameleon @ Feb 20th 2008 10:52AM
hmm, just curious but by that logic wouldn't that make sony just as desperate since they've had a price drop as well ....
just wondering ....
dcrooks @ Feb 20th 2008 10:55AM
Zertoss: Well, this is just a Futureshop employee reporting it. It could easily be a full pricedrop across canada, to bring the price of it in line with the new, more similar, exchange rate.
Zertoss @ Feb 20th 2008 11:00AM
dcrooks: That would make sense, and be an act of fairness to the Canadian consumers (gasp!).
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 20th 2008 11:22AM
Your right Curmeo, because sony would never be desperate enough to drop their-
OH WAIT!!! THEY DID. TWICE!!!
Please you've managed to make even sony fanboys ashamed of their console choice. Please just shut up.
borland502 (SDF - Macross Ring) @ Feb 20th 2008 11:51AM
Vegeta, do you feel ashamed of your choice every time one player teabags another in Halo 3? Does the knowledge somehow make you want to toss a blanket or a towel over the console when friends come over?
Maybe you just phrased it badly, but how Curmeo behaves has jack shit to do with how much like what I buy. Otherwise the non-trolls will be one circle jerking emo fest of apologists.
Syb @ Feb 20th 2008 12:29PM
If there are so many xbox 360 shortages, why the price drop? You only do that when their is excessive supply and low demand.
My guess is on the currency equalization theory as well.
Karen @ Feb 20th 2008 10:58AM
Finally!
It's been $50 overpriced for months now.
kingofwale @ Feb 20th 2008 11:10AM
for YEARS, you mean.
FrankTheCrank @ Feb 20th 2008 12:20PM
I must concur; the 360 has been overpriced for some time now. Apples to apples, it's just not a good deal, when compared to the PS3.
You take into account, XBL Gold, Wireless Adapter and 120G drive...forget about it, your in 3DO territory at that point.
Geist @ Feb 20th 2008 1:20PM
Now do you mean it's been overpriced because it's not worth the money, or overpriced because, as usual, we Canadians are getting shafted by having everything have extra price added to it for no valid reason?
evilJaze @ Feb 20th 2008 3:50PM
$50 is nothing. Try comparing car prices. What hurts even more is comparing car prices on models from the big 3 that are made here in Canada...
Karen @ Feb 20th 2008 8:44PM
Geist-Over priced by $50 because of the higher Canadian dollar.
Frank-I think you mess read what I said. Apples to Apples value comparison depends on what you need/want. Personally speaking when I made the choice I wanted rumble and the 2 free games bundled at the time Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate alliance with the 360. I saved $69 that I would have payed for a PS3 rumble controller and the PS3 isn't bundled with free games. Also the PS3 doesn't come with component cables I'd have to buy that too.
As to the extras the PS3 has. I don't need a 120GB hard drive my 360 is networked to my iMac, I don't need a wireless connection I used the cable I had for my old xbox (XBMC) and I'm not a online gamer, no need for Xbox Live. I just use silver for downloading Demos and arcade games. But this is just me and what I need/want.
Using Cheapassgamer.com I've been able to pick up a nice library of games cheap. Everything from $4 for Viva Pinata to $33 for Mass Effect. I'm having a lot of fun currently playing Crackdown that I bought for $10. The PS3 doesn't have a large amount of cheap games I want to play yet. The Greatest Hits program will hopefully start soon. Then I can buy a PS3 when the Rumble controller is back in the box.
todd @ Feb 20th 2008 11:00AM
Any US person close to the border can get a nice deal on a new 360.
kingofwale @ Feb 20th 2008 11:11AM
by paying the same? and then pay the famous Canadian taxes and then custom?
What a DEAL!
todd @ Feb 20th 2008 11:14AM
ha, oh didn't pay attention to the actual price just read $50 drop ha
DjDATZ @ Feb 20th 2008 11:23AM
todd you n00b. Please, get your facts straight before you make an idiotic comment like that.
todd @ Feb 20th 2008 11:24AM
DjDATZ fuck off.
DjDATZ @ Feb 20th 2008 11:32AM
Love you too! :D lol
Geist @ Feb 20th 2008 1:22PM
No, no, it's not our taxes that are famous, it's our milk. MILK. Remember that. Because it comes in bags. Milk, not taxes.
EC @ Feb 20th 2008 11:22AM
About time. We've been paying $50 more then Americans have for a long time. Nice to see things have evened out.
By the way, don't be dissing the Canadian bills. At least we can tell our bills apart without having to look closely.
DjDATZ @ Feb 20th 2008 11:30AM
Yea...considering our dollars have been playing around at parity for the past many months...its just getting the prices back to parity. Now, if only they would do something about MSP.
Geist @ Feb 20th 2008 1:24PM
Our money is awesome! And Americans are all "we've added color, a bit of peach here on some bills", we're all "Oh, well here's a blue five, a green 20, a purple ten, a red 50, etc"
Cause, you know, our money rocks.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 20th 2008 11:33AM
Wait... Didn't MS just tell us they have a shortage of 360s? Why cut the price if you're already short of units?
Seems like really bad timing at best.
doobiwan @ Feb 20th 2008 11:45AM
$50 says this Snafu means MS is announcing global price cuts at the GDC keynote starting a few hours !!!!
Brian @ Feb 20th 2008 12:18PM
That's a lotta loonies.
Goreful @ Feb 20th 2008 12:21PM
Aboot time Cana-Duh! got a break.
Geist @ Feb 20th 2008 1:25PM
You forgot the eh, eh?
bearxor @ Feb 20th 2008 12:54PM
"an offer which allegedly includes a free copy of Turok."
Gotta get rid of them somehow. Otherwise they'll wind up in the landfill with the 2600 E.T. carts.
Steve @ Feb 20th 2008 3:34PM
I guess that explains how Motorstorm sold more than 5 copies huh? Have a seat.
Alex @ Feb 20th 2008 3:54PM
Dammit, I just bought my 360 last month.
Nascar Dog @ Feb 20th 2008 4:05PM
You should have 30 days price protection???
Alex @ Feb 20th 2008 4:08PM
It's been over 30 days, so I'm down $50 now. :(
Nascar Dog @ Feb 20th 2008 4:13PM
Me too...
Alex @ Feb 20th 2008 6:12PM
Aww crap, at Best Buy you get the $50 off plus Bioshock. I really wish I didn't buy a 360 yet. :(
