Sega has bumped up the
Aliens: Colonial Marines street date to "late 2008," just a week after
Game Informer revealed the game name and cited a vague 2009 release. The publisher also provided details of the title's plot, an original, penned by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. As part of a United States Colonial Marine squad you and up to three additional friends will face
a Nazi an
Alien assault (yes, like we said, "original"). In co-op mode, players will have distinct roles to play in the completion of each mission --
we call flamethrower duty! The game also will include additional multiplayer modes not yet announced.
With Gearbox at the helm, expect an authentic recreation of the films' fictional world from pulse rifles to the now abandoned Sulaco spacecraft.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

To the makers of this game:
I will preorder 10 copies of this game if you make the main characters Hicks and a grown up Newt, therefore stating that Alien 3 and the abortions that followed never happened.
ComicShaman @ Feb 21st 2008 2:20PM
That would be the Dark Horse comics version of Alien. Which would be a splendid basis for a game. Considerably better than anything that acknowledges the existence of the treasonously bad Alien 3.
I want to be able to play the young Newt. All you do is hide in small spaces and say creepy things to your teammates. "They mostly come at night... mostly."
Zootittles @ Feb 21st 2008 3:33PM
Newt was the original Little Sister.
Zombie # 23,433 @ Feb 21st 2008 2:13PM
So late 2008? That will translate to mid 2010. Im still waiting for brothers in arms: hells Highway...
David @ Feb 21st 2008 2:21PM
Bradley Thompson and David Weddle... as in two of the writers for the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Hot damn, this is going to be good.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Feb 21st 2008 2:22PM
Hudson: Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
Vasquez: No...have you?
Obie @ Feb 21st 2008 4:07PM
Game over man! Game over!
KrazyKoala @ Feb 21st 2008 2:25PM
Wasn't this a canceled PS2 game way back when?
Killer Loki @ Feb 21st 2008 2:30PM
I don't think so.. But EA was going to do an Aliens MMO but they cancelled it.
KrazyKoala @ Feb 21st 2008 2:45PM
Update: Yep it was!:

This game doesn't need to exist.
AvP2 was damn near perfect.
WiNG @ Feb 21st 2008 2:28PM
Agreed.
ThornedVenom (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 21st 2008 2:30PM
Are you for real?
Branden @ Feb 21st 2008 2:32PM
I second that!
capt_carl @ Feb 21st 2008 10:09PM
AvP2 is one of the few games I can't finish to this day because it's so damn terrifying. Too bad the game had no DS3D/EAX support or else it would've really been stain-inducing scary.
ThornedVenom (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 21st 2008 2:31PM
Can't wait for some face-hugging action!
Avarice @ Feb 21st 2008 2:52PM
I'm guessing people yelling "game over man, game over!" will never get old in co-op.
Intentless @ Feb 21st 2008 2:55PM
Sits in corner rocking back and forth... fingers crossed... please be ok... please be ok...
JonFitt @ Feb 21st 2008 3:19PM
I liked one of the Coop/Deathmatch modes they had in the original AvP on the PC. You could all play marines against a constant stream of AI aliens. We'd hole up in a room and see how long we could hold out.
AvP2 was great, it had a much better story than 1, but stylistically it lacked all of the tension of 1. It was all health packs and limited damage. In AvP1 an alien would gut your marine in a second if it got close enough, and before the patch there were no mid mission saves at all!
Silly Sauce @ Feb 21st 2008 3:31PM
I hope it's scary and dark as hell. Somewhat like BioShock but with Aliens and not an undersea city.
Phranctoast @ Feb 21st 2008 3:40PM
AVp was great. They had a mp mode that I only seen duplicated once. Mutant on UT2003-04 was kind of like a faster paced predator mode where everyone hunts the predator.
Obie @ Feb 21st 2008 4:06PM
If this game allows me to beat the shit out of an Alien queen with a power loader, I might just die of sheer joy.
ninjacat11 @ Feb 21st 2008 5:14PM
This.
Baka @ Feb 21st 2008 4:32PM
Personally, they really need to tap the Unknown Worlds guys and pull some ideas from Natural Selection (HL mod). If ever there was a game that captured that Alien/Aliens feel, it's that game.

So, the real question here is this: Does Gearbox operate on Valve time?
dj faceplant @ Mar 26th 2008 6:02AM
Looking forward to this one. But clearly, all the people badmouthing Alien 3 are refering to the original Theatrical realease, not the re-edited directors cut, which, im my opinion, was magnificent and a completely different film entirely. And to be honest, the major downside of Alien Reserection was Winnona Ryder. Nuff said. Watch the Director cut of Alien 3..Need this game. Going to make me wet my pants many times. Anyone remember the Aliens Mod for Doom? Scarey stuff..Peace
Cx314 @ Mar 26th 2008 7:04PM
Gearbox can consider themselves toast if they screw this up. The cooperative functions of this game can be EPIC, bringing back some good ol' cooperative play of the Doom days. The theme is golden, obviously. Marines vs. Aliens, can it get any better? The game should be hella dark, scary, with TONS of environmental sound effects (wind, rain, creeking metal, electrical sparks, damaged air ducts, etc...)
