GDC08: King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match headed to PS2

While I was at SNK's demo checking out various compilations and Metal Slug 7, I also saw a remade version of King of Fighters '98 called Ultimate Match. Like Metal Slug 7, this was a surprise. Ultimate Match is a remake of the popular KOF '98 with cleaned-up graphics and ten added characters. Since '98 is a "dream match" game (meaning it discarded the series' storyline in favor of just putting a bunch of characters in the game), it already had a huge roster, but it's been upped to 64 characters. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stare at the character selection screen long enough to get who was new!The original King of Fighters '98 is already coming to the PS2 (and PSP and Wii) on the King of Fighters: Orochi Saga collection, but in case you really like the game -- which most fans of the series do -- this is the version to get. It does include the original in addition to the remake. This is expected to release in Q4 of this year.

Uhh, can someone tell Sony to STOP making games for PS2 already. I understand Guitar Hero and Madden but this? Its a fricken Q4 release AT THAT!!! Why dont they just put this one on the Playstation Store instead. With online FTW!! ;)

This is a SNK Playmore game, not by Sony. Plus it is a port of an old game.
PS2 is still a viable platform, and continues generating income for SCE.

I hate to admit it but I really enjoy KOF character designs compared to some other fighter series. So I've been a big fan just based on character designs.
So I guess my only question with this remake is...
Kula? K'? Shermie? Mr. Big? Orochi? Kyo?
Frankly, I love how K' just looks bored in matches. Walking with hands in his pockets, etc.

It's SNK doing it. And as long as they do this, there IS the outside chance Samurai Spirits and Last Blade collections come over as well....
And frankly, any fighting game fan owes it themselves to own Neo Geo Battle Collisuem...
Especially since Capcom has abandoned the tag team model.

Fidlious, yea but they're the same game. they renamed KoF98 for the DC as KoF99 for some reason.

As a comic book/video game nerd (skrull mario, elohel), I loved the concept of the MvC games, but the balance in them was just so horrible. Greater in spirit, but not in execution.

What I don't get is SNK has better games they can release and not even package in other games with them like Garou Mark Of The Wolves,Blazing Star and SVC Chaos but what do I know?

SVC Chaos? Better? It's kind of a mess imho. These releases are awesome, I only wish SNK hd a little love for the Xbox. I don't feel like rehooking up the PS2, plus interlaced video looks like crap on my TV.
