all i have to add to this thread is that i'm still on my launch PS3, unlike my 3rd 360 and it's dying a slow death now.

Sony is covering there asses on this. Which to me means they saw how much trouble developers were having porting between platforms. To make a good product you need to adjust to your base, so props to sony.

I have all consoles. you name it I got it. Even that damn PSX (why did I buy it?). For the most part I like Sony, probaly because of blu-ray.

I actually still have my launch 360 which is amazing, since I have seen those things turn into little red supernovas. Then I point my finger at my friend and laugh uncontrolably. However, my PS3 died on me. Found out the compound for the heasink was all dried and crusty. Left my PS3 on for a couple days while on vacation (contributing to ending world war 3 with the folding program) and burnt out the chip. Now I have a project of restoring my PS3 by searching ebay for parts. I bought another one so I could be ready gor GTA IV, FFXIII, Metal Gear Solid, little big planet, Home and God of war.

I appreciate both console's features.

Back on topic. As semi-developer myself (non-game) I appreciate tools that help developers. Notepad for html then came dreamweaver. Visual studio gets better and better with each release. Visual studio 2008 almost made me cry. Some one mad the comment of devs navigate to newer technology, which from my experience is true. I think Sony did good thing by help developers cut down on work which cuts bown on cost.

I think this should benefit gamers on PCs, 360s or PS3s so there shouldn't be any squabbling. It does mean that is should cut down on PS3 games that are poorly ported 360 games because developers cut corners, so that's a great bonus.
LucasArts have already announced that they will be developing primarily on the PS3 for their next multiplatform games and then porting over to the 360 because its easier that way. According to Scott Steinberg (a VP at SCEA) many other 3rd party developers are doing the same and using the PS3 as the primary dev platform.

I agree, it seems as though with this new toolkit that will become more of norm. That will benefit both consoles, we will see less exclusive but more games.
