We're not sure if
Portal designer Kim Swift was speaking out of turn when she told X-Play, "I believe Doug Lombardi, who's our lead marketing director at Valve, has announced
Portal 2." Was she referring to
Lombardi's recent comment that "There'll be more
Portal"? If so, we sorta thought his qualification of "the details of that ... we're still working out" sort of meant that "more Portal" didn't necessarily mean "Portal 2."
Maybe that means "more levels" or "more musical hits by passive-aggressive AIs" ... or maybe, just maybe, it means "Portal 2." Lombardi told us, simply, "More Portal is coming. Nothing more to disclose right now." So, looks like we're back at cube one.

The only important question is do we get another song.

I'd rather have another cake than multiple cupcakes.

I assume that we'll find out that the lie about the cake being a lie was a lie.

The sequel is a lie.

This was expected considering the abundance of scrumptious baked tasties hereto unexploited in the video game market.

Outside of the obvious desire for more levels, I'm very curious how they would continue the story. Even more so, how would they go about implementing the portal-gun in an varied outdoor environment? How will they be able to incorporate the tool into forthcoming Half-Life titles?
Honestly, I'd say a prequel would be the best bet for Portal 2. If they went that route they'd be able to experiment a bit more before allowing Gordon Freeman to wield the device himself. I doubt we'll be able to use the gun in Episode Three, but hopefully we'll see it usable in H-L3.

Wow, not one person bitching about how old Portal and its memes are. Sometimes I think people on the internet forget that not every single person played this game the day it came out. I only jumped on the Portal train last month, and the jokes are still funny to me. :P

Yay, an actual, factual sequel! I can't possibly fathom cutting Portal into episodes à la Half Life 2. I think the length of Portal was perfect, not beatable in one sitting, but not at all overdrawn. If they start releasing the sequel in bits and pieces, it'll end up being an utterly ersatz experience. Frankly, I find episodic content to be frustrating, simply on the basis of time. It feels like I'm waiting one year less than the development time of a normal game for one third of the content. It took me about two weeks of daily play to beat HL2, and six hours of constant play to beat Ep1, and the shorter development cycle just didn't seem like a palatable tradeoff.

This was not expected... not even by our top men back at the lab.
