GDC08: Portal's "Still Alive" to be Rock Band DLC
40
Filed under news that'll make Portal fans squeal with joy, Rock Band's hmxsean just confirmed that the Portal hit "Still Alive" by GLaDOS will be releasing as Rock Band DLC in the near future. And that deserves a w00tacular! The news was revealed last night at Harmonix's GDC party where the man behind "Still Alive", Jonathan Coulton took the stage to make the announcement and play through the song with a few Harmonix developers. We guess this time the cake ended up not being a lie. Sweet.

So does this mean that that supposedly cracked list of upcoming Rock Band songs is legit? Still Alive was on it, you know.

The honest geek in me has to confess: I will rock at singing this song, being that I probably know it better than most contemporary music..

Oh..and this makes up entirely for not having the Halo 3 theme music. It's okay, GH3...we're cool now.
But I own Rock Band.. :)

So all things considered, there were two stellar bits of news from GDC 08: XNA Studios releasing Community Games and GLaDOS' "Still Alive" as Rock Band DLC.
Most of us expected some Gears of War 2 news, and yeah it's killer sweet stuff to read and see (that Unreal tech demo had me excited), as well of course news that Ninja Gaiden will be coming to shelves before too long, but the best news was the few surprises..and they were big ones!

Could we all just stop with Portal? I for once consider Portal EXTREMELY OVERHYPED. It was a great game indeed, but could we just all forget about this game now?
I love to see those CoD4 fanboys bashing Halo 3 for being overhyped and yet praising Portal.

I think one reason people can't get enough Portal is because the big name games...Halo 3, Cod4, etc, are always the ones showcased the most. Portal was a 'behind the back' type sneaky gem most of us didn't expect to be as good as it was. That's why it's such a big deal.
I for one think the community should always praise games and developers that pour passion into their releases regardless if it's a 'sure thing' or not. After playing Portal and hearing those developer commentaries, you can tell it was a product of passion and not just made for the money.

You can't compare this to bashing Halo. Portal was actually a good game that was worth the hype. ;)

[+1] To Whiskey.
It's all true but as you already said,it was meant to be a "sneaky gem" but now it became a MEGA-OVERHYPED-MEME. I would rather have it suffer Psychonauts Syndrome.A sophisticated gaming experience that failed to reach the public.
This is what ruined the fucking game!

Yahtzee's Backspace says it all.

In two years time, we'll have thousands of retards chanting "The cake is a lie" while hugging their Companion Cubes, yet no-one will remember the actual game.

I loved the game and surely wished there was more, but it's gotten to the point where I can't even mention that I like cake without someone referencing this game. I wish it would just end. It's fun, we get it... people need to come up with new jokes.
That said, I would enjoy playing this.
