Riddick devs to revisit EA classic in mystery project
Electronic Arts announced that it is working on a new project with The Darkness and Chronicles Of Riddick devs Starbreeze Studios to revisit one of EA's "most acclaimed classic franchises" for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. As for which one, EA's keeping mum, simply dubbing the effort Project RedLime and leaving our imaginations to run wild.
Work has apparently been ongoing on Project RedLime for some time, as Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson comments that the team is " already deep in development" on the project. Nothing else, and mean nothing, is known about the mysterious project, though EA notes that more details will be revealed "in the coming months," leading us to hope that this game, whatever form it takes, will be among EA's salvo fired during this year's E3. We're crossing our fingers for James Pond.

I like the sound of this Redlime...
mmmm Redlime.
bAssackwards @ Feb 21st 2008 11:05AM
What a Riddickulous project name.

thomas.williams.jr @ Feb 21st 2008 11:05AM
Please let it be Mutant League Football or Hockey...
FOXHOUND @ Feb 21st 2008 12:07PM
I'm also going to hope for MUTANT LEAGUE, with the blind hope & faith that EA just might for once listen.
kevinski @ Feb 21st 2008 12:50PM
That's what I was thinking. *crosses fingers*
Eric @ Feb 21st 2008 12:53PM
Speaking of sports games... why not a new version of Dr. J and Larry Bird Go One on One!
Greatest basketball game, ever.
Dormammu @ Feb 21st 2008 2:06PM
Yes, Mutant League Football is the clear best choice. Do this now, EA!
dropkickcj @ Feb 21st 2008 4:23PM
I've been wishing for a mutant league football game ever since my friend stole my genesis copy ten plus years ago.
ArmiMaan @ Feb 21st 2008 11:09AM
I'm going to guess it'll be an FPS in the Crusader: No Remorse/Regret universe.
gLitterbug @ Feb 21st 2008 11:58AM
First franchise I thought about too.
But then was it really one of the most acclaimed? How about Wing Commander? Or a new Ultima?
Viridium @ Feb 21st 2008 12:47PM
I'll need a clean pair of undies if it's a new Wing Commander game!
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Feb 21st 2008 11:10AM
James Pond? Now that game was the shit. Shame it never really got a sequel, just multiple rehashes.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 21st 2008 11:12AM
Wow, why do people keep naming EA games from the latter years?
I'm thinking something like Archon or Jordan vs. Bird. Pinball Construction Set if Budge (who is at Sony now) didn't retain the rights.
Geoffrey Sperl @ Feb 21st 2008 12:17PM
I immediately though Archon, too. I really enjoyed that game, but it just doesn't strike me as Starbreeze's style since they tend to go for an FPS-style...
Archon really wouldn't work well as an FPS. But, maybe I'm wrong...
Glen @ Feb 21st 2008 11:15AM
Road Rash!
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Feb 21st 2008 12:10PM
Now that makes a TON of sense. I think you are the winnar.
Haon @ Feb 21st 2008 11:18AM
My money was on Road Rash because I read it as Readline. Man I still love those games (genesis). Now im kinda disappointed.
Randal @ Feb 21st 2008 11:22AM
I'm with Glen, first thing I though was Road Rash! Or hopefully we'll finally get a CFL game! PLEASE!!!
Andrew @ Feb 21st 2008 11:29AM
Please let it be System Shock!
dark_inchworm @ Feb 21st 2008 11:37AM
Adjustment:
Please let it be announced that EA has given the System Shock rights to Irrational! (Well, the artists formerly known as Irrational)
Really though, I am betting on System Shock.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 21st 2008 12:18PM
Doesn't system shock go to 2k along with the Bioshock team?
I would love a true system shock follow-up, but Bioshock sure had a lot of the vibe still.
Andrew @ Feb 21st 2008 1:13PM
System Shock has always been owned by EA.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 21st 2008 2:14PM
Well, it would be cool - but it may clash with the Bioshock teams work and come across as copying it, even though SS was the first.
Burritoclock @ Feb 21st 2008 11:31AM
I hope it is one of the following:
Starflight - Awesome genesis game
General Chaos - Great classic multiplayer
Wing Commander - A good one and not a XBLA pieace of shit
toole11 @ Feb 21st 2008 12:16PM
Road Rash FTW!
wait in the car @ Feb 21st 2008 11:34AM
It's Road Rash. Confirmed.
deaftly @ Feb 21st 2008 11:41AM
1.EA
2.Starbree
3.????
4.Profit!
kinshadow @ Feb 21st 2008 11:43AM
New Ultima!
Decanus @ Feb 21st 2008 11:46AM
lets just pray its dungeon keeper 3
AlixanderMcFly @ Feb 21st 2008 11:50AM
Come on Desert Strike
Eric H @ Feb 21st 2008 11:55AM
Since EA brought it up recently may be its another game in the Strike series.
Dirt @ Feb 21st 2008 12:19PM
Magic Carpet 3 or a new Populous. I will not accept any other answers.
Geoff @ Feb 21st 2008 12:32PM
"Classic" in the "ooh, look, we're all retro and stuff" sense, or the "now THIS is how you make a game" sense?
If it's the former, my money's on Skate or Die.
If it's the latter, I expect StarFlight (EA does own the rights, despite it being a Binary Systems game).
If it's neither ... Command & Conquer (which has never really ceased to exist) or a Strike game.
Tim Burns @ Feb 21st 2008 12:56PM
Starflight is owned by Binary Systems, they have given permission for an actual sequel to be made by some fans as long as it's non-commercial. No doubt they could always revoke that, but I'm sure we would have seen the project shut down by now.
Geoff @ Feb 21st 2008 1:25PM
I know Binary Systems made Protostar following StarFlight 2, though, because they didn't have the rights to the StarFlight name. Did they get the rights back at some point between now and then? I haven't been following the fangame.
Tim Burns @ Feb 21st 2008 2:10PM
Tsunami Media made Protostar. It was originally supposed to be Starflight 3 and published by EA, but EA couldn't work out a deal for the rights so the game was canceled. EA allowed Tsunami to finish what they had already started and release it themselves.
Geoff @ Feb 21st 2008 2:56PM
Ah, I had the situation backwards. Thanks!
mafafu @ Feb 21st 2008 12:43PM
System Shock, since EA owns the rights to that.
Tim Burns @ Feb 21st 2008 12:58PM
I'd like to see a Bioforge remake.
thesimplicity @ Feb 21st 2008 1:14PM
Considering it's called 'Project Redlime,' I'd say M.U.L.E. is a pretty safe bet.
Mike @ Feb 21st 2008 1:20PM
It seems like I've been waiting forever for a Links 386 update...
Exo @ Feb 21st 2008 1:27PM
I have to say a new game in strike series like desert strike or jungle strike.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Feb 21st 2008 1:46PM
It's Mail-Order Monsters (or Archon.)
I'm a genius. Thanks.
Mike @ Feb 21st 2008 2:44PM
It's time for a ROAD RASH remake.. I really hope that's the case.. but GearBox?.. they make FPS mostly right?..
Mike @ Feb 21st 2008 2:45PM
oops..my bad.. not gearbox.. Starbreeze. They haven't made any 'race' games either.
Hoo Ballz @ Feb 21st 2008 4:03PM
General Chaos! FTW!
natureboy46 @ Feb 21st 2008 4:11PM
EA owns the rights to the Syndicate series, right? I'd love to see a new version.
ZippyDSMlee @ Feb 21st 2008 4:19PM
maybe they will finish and polish the darkness >>
