British mag to unveil Xbox Live Goldeneye info. Wednesday
After being endlessly rumored and then sort-of-confirmed, we were pretty sure the currently-in-limbo XBLA version of Goldeneye 007 would remain in hiding for quite a while (questionable videos notwithstanding). Apparently not, as British mag Xbox World 360 announced via its blog today that next Wednesday's issue will include the world's first hands-on impressions of the port.
The short announcement, which was slowly leaked via a screenshot jigsaw puzzle throughout the week, promises "never-seen shots and hands-on details" about the game's differences, improvements, and information on how we can "make sure this incredible remake does see the light of day." That last bit is a little worrying to us, as it implies there's still a chance the game won't see the light of day. What can we do to help? Circulate a petition? Protest at Rare headquarters? Sacrifice our pets to Satan? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY TELL US!

That pic does indeed look nice... I'll be looking forward to checking this out. Glad that it doesn't appear to be canceled after all!

Raikage (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:56PM
I remember there was a Goldeneye project in the works that used the HL2 engine... this might be fake...
But I sure hope not!
Corey @ Feb 22nd 2008 10:09PM
You can find out more about the HL2 mod at http://goldeneyesource.com/ . The version I played was multiplayer only, but it appears that they are completely remaking the game.

Huey2k2 @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:40PM
Even if it never sees the light of day. The improved textures look absolutely fantastic in that screenie. The mountains specifically are beautiful, and all the other textures just look so much crisper and clearer... I want it now :(
danny. @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:52PM
Bullshot?
Donald @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:40PM
Kyle, one word...
DECAF.
Anni @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:42PM
XBox can have its Goldeneye, but the REAL question is... will they legally be allowed to have the DK Mode cheat?
Is that REALLY what we want Goldeneye reduced to?
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:44PM
This game if it comes out will be a must have on the 360 arcade. Goldeneye was one of the few games worth playing on the N64.
I hope this game makes the light of day and Nintendo allows it.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:47PM
Grenade launchers bouncing off walls in the Temple level. Oh sweet memories
Anni @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:54PM
"Goldeneye was one of the few games worth playing on the N64"
Ah, a fanboy to the end, Ken. Even for a system over a decade old.
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:19PM
Your comment makes no sense, IN MY OPINION, the N64 had only a few titles worth playing. I did not like any of the Mario games so where does that leave me...WCW, Zelda, and Goldeneye.
I am pretty confident that my opinion was the norm...except for the Mario part.
timnc @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:09PM
Holy crap I actually agree with that statement.
baby sea tuna @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:34PM
You forgot Starfox.
samfish @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:40PM
So you're saying you didn't like:
Banjo-Kazooie
Jet Force Gemini
Perfect Dark
Mischief Makers
Star Fox 64
Blast Corps
1080
Kirby 64
Beetle Adventure Racing
Terisphere
F Zero-X
Killer Instinct Gold
Sin & Punishment?
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:15PM
Haha Mischief Makers, I had that game =) I loved my N64 I should have never gave it to my little nephew =( I had

DP @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:43PM
Seriously, tell me Jet Force Gemini was not the shiz.
Anni @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:53PM
I wasn't here, so I'm glad somebody made the list. If the N64 has no games, I fear for how you feel about the PS3, Ken. :-/
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 22nd 2008 5:31PM
So you're saying you didn't like:
Banjo-Kazooie
Jet Force Gemini
Perfect Dark
Mischief Makers
Star Fox 64

hey blast corps fucking RULED. dont hate just because it pwnt you
makishima @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:47PM
Haha all I can think is 1 week after this would come out (and please please let it come out) it would no longer be between Halo 3 and CD4 for most player on live. The best either one could hope for would be 2nd :P
Intentless @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:47PM
I love this game but I don't want to see it come back out... All the memories of the hours upon hours wasted playing this awesome game will be shattered when I realize how great it truly wasn't compared to what I could be doing now...
Chris Gregg @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:17PM
I don't even know what I am going to do with myself when this comes out!
Benny @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:48PM
But how will it play without a Z-button?!
Marty @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:55PM
L Button is going to have to step up to the plate, I guess.
FraGNeM @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:05PM
I'd rather they remap the whole game to support dual analog!
tmacairjordan87 @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:30PM
they could use the L button or do what I do when i use a wired 360 controller to play an emulated version and use one of the bumpers. Works great for me at least :-\
dan stabbingworth @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:34PM
I mapped the 360 wired controller to play perfect dark with dual analog. Wasn't hard to do or use. In fact, it made the game way easier.
Also, "on sale feb 27" I thought that meant Goldeneye. Boo.
Arttemis @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:50PM
I would totally round up all the pets throughout my neighborhood and sacrifice them for this game without batting an eye.
FidliousWong @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:51PM
So wait.. you sacrifice your pets to Satan... in exchange for something? Damn, I've been doing it for all the wrong reasons....
NATO_Duke @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:54PM
See Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible - all of us around here follow it.
Cyro @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:01PM
lol!!!
Alan Smith @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:26PM
no lie, 2 days ago I was thinking about how much I wanted to find a N64 and play this.
Intentless @ Feb 22nd 2008 12:56PM
HEADSHOTS ONLY!!!!! WITH PAINTBALL...
Or Man with the Golden Gun that was fun too..
Jerk Face @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:40PM
MWGG was sweet. I was always a fan of Power Weapons or Pistols in either Complex or Facility. Simple and fun. God DAMN would a graphically updated remake be awesome.. Especially for the single player. Everyone keeps talking about the Multi, which clearly was the best part of the game, but the single player was fun as hell too. Seeing that screen shot made me a fanboy again.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:17PM
Funny thing is, multi was actually tacked on at the end.
sockatume @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:00PM
It was confirmed months ago that, although the game is finished, rights negotiations fell through and Rare have therefore ruled out a release.
Rare produced the original game as a second party of Nintendo who were under authorisation of Danjaq; all of the above own parts of the IP, and a different publisher now has an exclusive licence to produce James Bond videogames. Torturous doesn't even begin to describe it.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:10PM
Yes, we heard this stuff before - but the magazine is now saying it might come out still. See how that works, new news > old news = excited gamers.
sockatume @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:46PM
It's information on how we can make it be published, presumably by stamping our feet until the rights issues magically disappear. There's no indication that it's getting any closer to actually hitting the streets, and the last official word was pretty conclusive on that matter.
Mr Khan @ Feb 22nd 2008 3:48PM
Nintendo, Activision, and Microsoft are some of the most ruthless enforcers of copyright law within the industry, the only way you could make a worse legal mire is if you got EA and Sony involved somehow. Activision would be willing to cooperate, but won't make it easy. Nintendo, however, having nothing to gain from this, would cut off its nose to spite its face on this
Sad, cuz that does look kickass
NeverSage @ Feb 22nd 2008 1:01PM
I hope the controls are terrible, like the N64 version. That way I'll be able to rule all those Halo players :)
NeverSage @ Feb 22nd 2008 5:44PM
Damn, I got voted down hard.
I just meant the N64 had vastly different controls with one analog stick. I used to play it a lot so I got adequate at it. This new generation of console FPS players who started on Halo would have a hard time adapting to the old, single stick way of playing.
But, in the end, I wasn't serious...
Wilhelm @ Feb 24th 2008 11:40PM
Hahaha, yeah. Been playing Goldeneye a lot on recent basketball trips with the fellas and damn I can just not get a hang of the damn single analog shit.
joeyg @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:04PM
this won't be nearly as good as the N64 version. playing over xbl won't be nearly as fun as the split screen mode.
NATO_Duke @ Feb 22nd 2008 2:08PM
Didn't the rumor also include 4 player split screen in the game? If so, why wouldn't that be fun too?
