GDC08: Bionic Commando: Rearmed out in May; better on PS3

Bionic Commando Rearmed, the PSN remake of the original NES game Bionic Commando (which is receiving a sequel on the PS3 later this year, also entitled Bionic Commando - confused yet?) is pegged to be unleashed onto the PSN Store this May. The news comes out of various interviews during GDC with Capcom representatives. This is a lot earlier than we expected to see it, but we're certainly not complaining!

1Up is also reporting that the PSN version of Rearmed will feature higher-resolution textures than the Xbox Live version. This is due to Microsoft's 150MB limit for games on Xbox Live Arcade putting restrictions on the file size of the game's textures. It's nice to know that Capcom won't have to compromise the quality of the game for the PlayStation Network. We just wonder whether the game will feature a 5GB install ...

Oblivion as well. But the fact that MS left out a HDD in one of their SKUs while all of the xbox versions had them is really starting to bite them in the arse.

You guys are funny. I own a PS3 and really was just remarking on the title of this post. Who the hell cares if a $10 arcade game looks better on the PS3?!?

thats all fine and dandy but i'm still pissed about tales of vesperia going to the 360.....sure it will come to the ps3 eventually like all the other damn bandai-namco games hell i won't even be surprised if tekken 6 comes out to the 360.....speaking of which when the hell is eternal sonata coming......i'm sorry i'm just pissed........atleast give us a freaking Simultaneous release dammit

Dirt is pretty even. It might run better on PS3. I know it was the first game that people were like "WTF the 360 isn't better?" and COD4 doesn't. There differences are small, but the 360 version of COD4 is better.

Oh come on now, fellow PS3fanboy patrons. If we're going to criticize him for omitting PS3 games superior to the 360 versions, we can't omit 360 games better, by whatever margin, than the PS3 versions.

If we're going to demand a fair call on it, we have to make fair calls.

If you read the article it just says that MS was unaware of the issue so I can bet that when it's released it will look the same on both systems including hi-resoultion textures intact. I'm not getting it for my 360 because of MS DRM issues so I'll go with the more friendly Sony version.

Please site your sources Trev. When the game was first released someone did a side by side comparison and the PS3 had better gun textures and models. The ground was slightly better on one level for the 360 but everything else was better on PS3. It doesn't matter much, but i'm just saying. Here is proof:

The discussion was about ONLINE games, brought from their online stores. PSN & Xbox Live.

By the article's statement, it proves the viability of the PSN. No one is talking about retail games.

This is ANOTHER reason why Xbox Live is NOT better than the PSN. Once you throw Home into the mix and in game xbm, PSN will be 10 times better than Xbox Live.

PSN is already better. Its free and doesn't go down for 2+ weeks. :) It will take awhile for everyone to recognize it though.

Silly fanboys it went down for two plus weeks because the large amount of people who bought 360's during the xmas season crashed it. If PSn had enough new people who bought consoles log on at the same time and crash the network you guys would be creaming your pants.

That doesnt prove shit? How did you even come up with that from taht video? Anyway I have COD4 both for 360 and PS3. I havem both because I bought my two sons the game since they bugged me so much to play it on 360. Anyway Ive played them and beatem both. Went online on them both. COD4 for 360 is superior in sveral areas. The framerate and graphics are better on 360. All Ghillied up is proof, just ck that level out on both for yourself and you will know why. Either way this doesnt prove anything its great on both. Controls are better on 360 because of teh controller of course =)

Oh, it will probably be something about in-game messaging, voice chat, and then a lot of non-gaming related stuff like movie rentals. Oh, lets not forget that achievements let you enjoy a game on "a whole new level". Lag and paying for a p2p network will be not-so-subtly left out.

I also have COd4 on both PS360 because my two sons bugged me so much to play it on 360 that I just went out and bought it also for PS3. Ive played them and beat them both, online as well. My gamertag and PSN ID are the same as my name here xFenixKnightx. COD4 on 360 is better framerate wise and graphics wise. Just shut your fanboyass up already. Your missing out on LIVE's awsome online experience. It cost 50.00 because its way more advanced than PSN in so many ways. Not just in game xmb. Too bad your fanboyism or your cheap ass wallet will never let you experience it.

If I want to get my dosis of 360/Wii games, there is an arcade about 4 mins by foot away from my house....

Although I agree with you that Live is superior to PSN, you also have to admit that PSN has been "growing up" at a faster rate than Live has...to the point where there have been features that have been released at about the same time as XBL...

Although I haven't owned a xbox console nor am the biggest Microsoft supporter, people have to AT LEAST give it a try before giving their opinion about it...as for me, I don't really think that it is worth 50 bucks, I stick to PSN

I too have all 3 systems. I find PSN superior to Live since PSN uses dedicated servers, Live uses peer to peer. Which means Live has far more lag, lower player counts in game. In game messaging is pretty much the only thing Live does better and that's temporary. PSN having better in game performance (which is what counts) means Live is not worth a penny more than PSN.

DMC4 requires a 5gb install and Lost Planet will require the same, to my understanding. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Bionic Commando (not Rearmed) required the same. Having an installation OPTION is a great thing but these required installs are not good when lots of people only have 40gb hard drives.

Capcom needs to get on the ball.

I had intended to buy the 360 version of Bionic Commando because of the controller (which is the reason I bought the PS3 version of DMC4 - different games are better on different controllers). Rearmed has a few extras you can unlock in the full game though and I'm definitely getting the PS3 version of Rearmed, which means there's now a good chance I'll get the PS3 version of the full game.

Uhm, I don't know if anyone's told you yet, but PSN games by definition are downloads that install to the hard drive. The author was joking when he mentioned it in this story.

i dont know why people think the 360 controler is better though, ps controlers fit for me 100 % better, that was the main reason why i didnt want a xbox or 360, those controlers suck monkey balls! other than that, just play cod4 on the pc like i did :)

Live is better out of game. But the actual game experience is better over psn. And as it has been said: the few features that Live has over PSN now, are going to be implemented in the future.

The PS3 controller SUCKS! All I do is Hi Five my thumbs when I play any FPS on it. (Fix the offset/anolog) Ohhh wait you don't need it, Just like rumble right?

Some people like different controllers. I like the PS3 controller but that may be because my first controller was a Playstation controller. I just think the Xbox360 controller is fat.

I kinda wish the 'Boomerang' came out, I would of loved to tried it out. It could of been great, who knows.

wh wh what!!! 360 controller best every made??? no way man, way to thick for me, and those "triggers??" just set it up to shoot with the r1 button, a perfect fit.... no way the xbox controller is better, shoot i still use a logitec "ps" type controller for the pc.....

Which controller is best? I guess it depends on your own taste/style and what type of game you're playing. Except for FPS games, of course. Then mouse and keyboard is the best thing going.

And, as UT3 demonstrates (or so I've read), the PS3 allows for mouse and keyboard control. For me, that definitely gives the PS3 the edge over the 360 (not saying the 360 is a bad system--it's got plenty of great games too).

But I think the topic is actually Bionic Commando: Rearmed. I loved the NES version, liked the arcade version (only played it once or twice and don't remember much about it), and I'm definitely looking forward to rearmed. The controller on both the 360 and PS3 should adequately support the game, but it's a shame the 360 version will have inferior graphics (unless they get that download size thing sorted out).
