Turns out that – while technically volunteers – the Conference Associates (or CAs as they're known) at this year's GDC didn't go uncompensated. In addition to getting a free pass to the not inexpensive conference (a great opportunity to network and learn a great deal about making video games!) they also earned something many of you may be far more appreciate of: A chance to play the highly-anticipated
Super Smash Bros. Brawl two-and-a-half weeks before its tardy North American release. We sent
Mahalo Daily's Veronica Belmont to the tournament's secret location to see what happens when the volunteers get the place to themselves.
[Note: There may be some spoilers in the above video, if you're paranoid about that sort of thing. But really, c'mon.]

Super Smash Bros. is pretty much my life and I main Link so I couldn't help myself with that one. :)
However, I really have no room to call someone cheap since I use *oh noes* falco a ton. He just can hurt you in so many ways.

This is what happens (or DOESN'T, for that matter) when you get busy and can't attend GDCs anymore. Bah.

You can't really say anyone is cheap because everyones strengths and weaknesses not only balance out, but if you spam a move repeatedly, it becomes weaker and has a lower throw back radius.
There were people playing a variety of characters, every character was used. Link was popular, because many people just love him. He is a good character with both strong melee and range. Nobody was spamming up+B in the tourney at all, because they knew it would get weaker the more you use it anyway.
And as for the Final Smash in a tourney, yes of course there was. It makes sense, and its a fight trying to get for it. It was fun, and without it, the game wouldn't have been as good.
So stop whining and complaining about how bad somebody or something is before you've even had the chance to play it. I'm sure all of you SS fans will love Brawl, it is 10x better than the first two. EVERYONE at GDC who played it agreed.
