We've known a Puzzle Quest sequel was coming out for some time -- turns out, we've known longer than we thought. In April 2007, D3 Publishers announced Galactrix, a "blend of puzzle, RPG, and strategy games" with sci-fi twist. This week at GDC, D3 announced it again (via Gamespot), only this time re-branded as Puzzle Quest: Galactrix. (You can view the old screenshots here.)
The obvious gameplay difference from Puzzle Quest is the hexagonal board, adding to the board's complexity. Galactrix is due out this year for DS, Xbox Live Arcade and PC; a PSP version could not be confirmed.

they've been pushing this instead of going straight for PQII - hopefully this does well so they can actually get the time to really fix PQII with all those balancing issues
I doubt this sci fi version will all of a sudden cure how certain methods always trump the majority but it is fun figuring it out

What does it say about a company when their two products are just refinements of games other people created? Granted, the first proved to be a good refinement, but when your second game once again looks suspiciously like something someone else already thought of, people are going to start calling you out.
What's next? Puzzle Quest: Minesweeperius?

That they have the formula to make anything (and I mean ANYTHING) so freaking addicting?

Once they announced a sequel, I had a feeling Galactrix would be involved.
It makes sense instead of repeating the same scenery over and over again.

I thought it was going to be like Collapse with RPG elements. I found story before March, you guys knew about this for too long.

I'm so getting this for DS. I've spent countless hours on Puzzle Quest perfecting my character and now I want a new game in that same vein.
But PLEASE include wifi in this one! That was the biggest letdown in PQ, that I couldn't battle against anyone with my maxed out character.

GOTY 2008 confirmed.
Puzzle Quest and space are two of my favorite things, and combining them sounds amazing.

It says you haven't played their other products and that you don't care to actually look into their history.
Hexes and space warfare go together like peanut butter and apples. MMMMMMMMMM.
