Today's most brick-tastic video: The UT3 Legoland mod
While we can think of other childhood amusements we'd rather see as the inspiration for a Unreal Tournament 3 mod (like a recreation of a Mighty Max playset, or something of the Fraggle variety), this Lego-themed map is pretty ingenious (and completely free to download). Composed entirely of fully destructible Lego brick structures and populated with Lego people (whose smug smirks you can blast off their tiny, yellow faces), it's definitely the world's most vivid simulation of what going postal in Legoland might be like -- and the cleverest map we've seen from the UT3 modding community so far.

So it's not a mod, but a map?
Sagan @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:13PM
Whats the difference?
A map done in a powerful editor can be a mod. An example would be DotA for Warcraft III.
jdeuel @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:20PM
the difference is it doesn't modify the game, it's just a new map. it's a map- not a mod, just like every custom map for TF2 isn't a mod, and every custom map for CS isn't a mod.
also, tagged under "hacks?" Using freely available tools to make a (trademark infringing) map is hardly considered a hack.
jopojelly @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:21PM
A Mod would include and change other files, a map has everything in the map file....
ViagraFiend @ Feb 25th 2008 10:14AM
What a stupid fucking thing to argue about.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:34PM
Either way, this is pure badass.
GoldenS1104 @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:59PM
Agreed. Every game should have Lego Maps.
Dragod @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:34PM
Those can't be official Legos... Real Legos lock together. :P
Abscissa @ Feb 24th 2008 3:55PM
Darnit, I was just gonna say that!
KeenCommander @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:34PM
Not hard to be the biggest thing from the UT3 modding scene at this point. There's really nothing worth playing yet.
Eggy @ Feb 24th 2008 11:11AM
Dude quit talking out of your behind. There are tons of great maps available already from some of the most experienced and skilled Unreal mappers out there (e.g. Hourences).
KeenCommander @ Feb 24th 2008 3:12PM
Tons? Try a very few, at least that are that good. And I'm not "talking out of my ass," I own and play the game.
HighFiveJesus @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:37PM
Mighty Max is boss. Boss hog.
I had probably 80 percent of everything they ever released.
Yourself @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:42PM
Ahahahahahahaha, Benny the Bouncer. What a ridiculous song from a ridiculous (and awesome) album.
Shignami @ Feb 23rd 2008 5:52PM
Can you crush people under falling legos?
waynski1457 @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:01PM
jeez, the game hasnt even been out that long. thats awesome!
and great music makes great youtube videos. this is a great youtube video.
Tone @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:06PM
Amazing, thats awesome.
Batzarro @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:30PM
Legos...and shooting? The MI6 want a word with the makers of this base...I mean map!
Tranando @ Feb 23rd 2008 6:35PM
Too bad, the 360, if it ever gets UT3, won't have mods...
Poisoned Al @ Feb 23rd 2008 7:09PM
Too bad nobody gives a shit about UT3. Especially PC owners like myself. You're not very good at trolling are you?
kevin @ Feb 23rd 2008 7:14PM
i give a shit about ut3. and fried chicken.
HighFiveJesus @ Feb 23rd 2008 7:19PM
oooh you did that smug snide remark with the dramatic three dots afterwards all with the tone of a coward in real life.
Matt B @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:03PM
So go make a better mod and STFU PC owner.
MortifiedocAlot @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:34PM
Sure is butthurt in here. I don't own UT3, but it seems like an impressive engine, much better then the CS:S lego maps in which nothing moves.
ThornedVenom (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 23rd 2008 8:27PM
I own a PC. I love UT3.
But I hate Tranando. >=(
Jeff @ Feb 23rd 2008 10:39PM
UT3, gameplay wise, is possibly the best game ever created.
Lots of shit about it is utterly fucked, but the core is done perfectly, and patches will continue to fix the rest.
Autopsy15 @ Feb 23rd 2008 11:01PM
To bad nobody gives a shit about what Poisoned Al says cause he's a stinky PC fanboy. I'm not saying PC fanboys are bad, just stinky ones.
Tranando @ Feb 24th 2008 6:19AM
Funny that many PC owners I know used to slag consolesas not being for proper gamers. Most of them have PS3's and UT3.
Many of them are sick of XBL because it's full of kids.
John McPoop @ Feb 24th 2008 12:59PM
@Tranando
I agree 100%... I am getting sick of XBL for that same reason... Its full of a$$holes who think its cool to be a bigot, curse all of time and do nothing but talk $hit and insult people. I am not saying everyone on XBL is bad but a good number of the 13 year olds who's moms bought them XBL have no idea what little Tommy is doing. Honestly unless I am playing with a friend I won't even put the headset on anymore.
ApolloIV @ Feb 23rd 2008 9:02PM
So this tells me that Crysis' buildings were nothing but legos...
Jeff @ Feb 23rd 2008 10:41PM
What's impressive, and that many are forgetting to note, is that this level was created using the Ageia toolset. You know, those useless physx cards?
I can run this at 60 FPS with a crapload of bots running around and crazy physics action-- thanks to that useless card. My CPU is a garbage 5000+. Moreover, all 8-series cards will soon have physx support... meaning maps like this (and this one) will run with great performance for almost anyone.
Even more surprising: this runs on the ps3 very well, since one of the cells is dedicated to physics.
Chris BloodShot @ Feb 23rd 2008 11:34PM
Has anyone tried to download the map? All I can get from the download links are html files.
V Mehta @ Feb 24th 2008 12:40AM
For some reason I was suddenly reminded of some of my favorite Avara levels...
mundox @ Feb 24th 2008 2:21AM
Why is there no lego map on COD4!!
Pointz @ Feb 24th 2008 3:49AM
Why are the guns always that BIG. What are they compensating for? I myself prefer handguns. I don't need to compensate for nothing. Who else.
UT does suck and no, Lego blocks are much more stable then that, why are they falling apart so easily?
John McPoop @ Feb 24th 2008 12:47PM
Yeah because Giant Lego cities exist you fucking idiot... Do us all a favor and go play some more Halo 3
t_m @ Feb 24th 2008 7:43AM
cool. that is all i have to say.
tuaamin13 @ Feb 24th 2008 10:12AM
Too bad CS had this years ago.
KA_Legoland, though it wasn't destructible. Obviously there's been some advances in user interaction with the worlds.
But he simply improved on an old map, and gets his video posted on Joystiq?
Abscissa @ Feb 24th 2008 3:55PM
This makes wish I didn't find multiplayer FPSes insanely boring and repetitive (that's not intended as a jab, BTW). Seriously, if I actually liked the core gameplay of multiplayer FPSes, I would be absolutely all over that. Actually, turn it into an honest-to-goodness single player game (ie, something more than just replacing human opponents with bots), then I would get it in an instant. Too cool. Especially if you (and others) could get crushed by the falling blocks (damage proportional to block size and velocity, squeeee!!).
Kyle N. @ Feb 24th 2008 2:23PM
Is the video actually working for anybody? It won't load on my computer. Is there a mirror? I don't have UT3, but I'd like to see what the mod looks like.
daveyp @ Feb 24th 2008 6:14PM
Here's a link to the pc version if anyone wants it:

Legos getting blown to smithereens makes me cry...
The lego people didn't do it!
Pointz @ Feb 26th 2008 7:18AM
STFU john mcShit your so quick to assume I have or even want Halo. And did i say lego cities are real. and does that look like a city to you. You are one stupid guy, your a tool if you actually think this shit is good. About Halo, are you dumb? You must be fucked up in your brain after you fell from the ugly plane. Dickhead, cha
