The problem with "playing with onself" is that it's a) vague, and b) actually VERY common.

Basically, there's 2 aspects. Most of the examples here involve the temporal aspect of multi-control: you control one figure at a time, in which the figure can interact with other members you control in the future.

The second aspect is spatial: you control all figures at the same time, in which all figures interact with the environment at the same time. IIRC Braid also has this aspect.

If we were to look at the first aspect, you can see that in terms of information gathering, it already exists. We play, we die, we learn, we play again, we succeed. IIRC this is also mentioned in SM64 interviews.

If we were to look at the second aspect, it's essentially ANY multi-character control games. Aka practically all strategy games, many RPG games, any games which allows you to create a simultaneously existing illusion (e.g. Megaman ZX Advent), and etc.

In terms of obfuscation, I'd quote SM64 again. Obfustication can also be used in a positive/constructive manner, as opposed to the exmaples given here (from what I can infer based on descriptions.) Example: the small-large world. Players do no ever understand why 2 pictures of similar sizes become entrances to the same world, at vastly different scenarios. Example: The infinite stairway, which demonstrates that the player isn't supposed to be here yet. Another example I'd use is Prey, with it's traditional-geometry-bending rules.

Lost Static was a great amount of fun. Very epic sort of feel to the story. I had fun playing it, just took a few seconds to get accustomed to the style. Then it had a nice little ending.
