Kirby 64, Psychosis roll/scroll onto Virtual Console
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Nintendo 64, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points): In addition to being one of our most deceptively inedible heroes, Kirby's also one of our most versatile. Here, he stars in 2D/3D platformer hybrid that is, by all accounts, pretty darn solid.
Psychosis (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): From what we've managed to gather, this is a fairly standard R-Type clone. If you're in to that (and you people know who you are) this may make a good purchase. Other wise, just watch our linked video to experience the bizarre music.

I hope that video doesn't represent the entire game.
Cesaria @ Feb 25th 2008 5:24PM
Agreed. I love Kirby, but that just looks bland.
GANNONSMASH @ Feb 25th 2008 6:43PM
Well, the guy in the video picked the very first level, and went through it in just about the most boring way possible, and didn't include either of the level's two boss battles. It's a great game, trust me.
Marshmallow713 @ Feb 25th 2008 9:41AM
Kirby Superstars for the Super NES is SO much better, but this is still a decent game.
flameofdoom666 @ Feb 25th 2008 9:46AM
I may get my first VC game (Kirby 64). I never owned it as a kid.
Plokosh @ Feb 25th 2008 9:50AM
Go for it! Kirby 64 is an awesome game, plays kinda like NSMB on the DS, only you're Kirby and can eat almost anything and mix abilities. Like rock and fire turned kirby into a lava spewing volcano, I think.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 25th 2008 10:56AM
Am I the only one that hated kirby64? I beat it on a rental.
Dopple Boppler @ Feb 25th 2008 3:20PM
I beat it on a first day rental when I was like 10 Crono, but for some reason I always adored it. Definitely getting this tonight; first Virtual Console game I'll have gotten since Bubble Bobble~
Mr Khan @ Feb 25th 2008 4:15PM
My favorite was Dynamite Kirby. Combining Rock and Bomb, you would pitch a clump of dynamite sticks out that would annihilate everything on screen and damage Kirby. I never figured it out until i just tried pressing down, and a little hardhat came out
I laughed until i cried
samfish @ Feb 25th 2008 9:50AM
Well, I guess I have to make some room on the ol' Wii for Kirby.
...god damnit, Nintendo. Release a hard drive already.
Co @ Feb 25th 2008 1:26PM
Hell yea.... I been waitin for this one.

KIRBY 64!
I've been waiting to play this game for ages. I just hope it gets released in Pal-Land this Friday.
ThornedVenom (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 25th 2008 10:07AM
Kirby has to be one of the greatest character designs ever.
RDX @ Feb 25th 2008 10:12AM
Kirby 64- Definitely a good, fun game. But if you've every even played a video game before, expect to beat it in one afternoon. Two tops. Still a good time though.
Marshmallow713 @ Feb 25th 2008 10:46AM
Oh yeah... i forgot how short this game was. Like i said, Kirby All Stars is SUCH a better game. I was so excited for Kirby 64 cause I was such a big fan of the SNES game, and it was shorter and had less features than the older game. Co-Op in Kirby All Stars is one of the best things I've ever played. If they had that in Kirby 64 it would by amazing.
Oh well, still a solid afternoon of fun.
RDX @ Feb 25th 2008 10:47AM
In my original post, "every even"? Wow. EVER even.
Seroth @ Feb 25th 2008 11:01AM
Wow...I was just wanting to play this game, and I apparently lost the cartridge...Perhaps this is a sign that I should buy this on the VC?
CJC @ Feb 25th 2008 11:17AM
You know, that is a really lame Kirby video. The player hardly used any abilities, which is half the fun of Kirby game.
You can see all of them here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vdlEH0yFbg
Kyattsuai @ Feb 25th 2008 11:49AM
They could've been a lot more fun/mean with the press release...
"In anticipation of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Hal Laboratory's 2.5D classic for the N64 has been released on Virtual Console - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. GOTCHA!!!"
Phillip @ Feb 25th 2008 11:50AM
I thought Kirby 64 was canceled! It was released??? I would've so bought that when I was a kid. Thank goodness for VC. My first VC purchase is confirmed.
deft @ Feb 25th 2008 12:05PM
Random note for this game:
Masahiro Sakurai is a voice actor in it.
That said, I'm getting right now! I never got a chance to play it in the 64-Era, and as a Kirby fan I feel obligated to do so.
The BPM Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine @ Feb 25th 2008 11:51PM
SRSLY? Who does he voice? There weren't many voice clips in the game... (only one I can remember is Kirby saying "Hii~" before starting a stage...)
killploki @ Feb 25th 2008 1:18PM
psychosis! i forgot all about that game....it was one of the best turbo grafx games i ever owned.
Psykechan @ Feb 25th 2008 1:40PM
From the video it looks like Kirby 64 VC suffers from the same problem that other emulated N64 games do; improper emulation.
When Kirby gets hit, the status bar at the bottom should update with Kirby having less life. have the original cartridge and that's the way it functions. I've tried the game in various emulators and they seem to do the same thing. Kirby didn't use any of his clone abilities in the vid but in other emulators the abilities didn't show properly either.
It's sad because this was my favorite of the series because it was just fun. It even slightly edged out Dream Land 3 on the SNES.
Dictatorship @ Feb 25th 2008 3:08PM
Kirby has been always one of my favorite series since I was a kid, and Kirby 64 has always been one of my favorite N64 games, no matter what my bigger brother says(which is really, really narrow minded). It had one of my favorite characters in the series, Adeleine. Oh how I love her, she's so cute!
I admit it's a tad short, but that doesn't make it suck, as it follows the "short and sweet" rule. Besides, Sakurai has been the kind of person who wants to make games that any gamer, young or old, can enjoy.
I'm a game collector so I still have the original catridge, which works like a charm. I might as well play it. If for some reason any of you guys don't have it, lost it or passed it and have a Wii, by all means, download this gem to your VC. Every point will be worth it and you won't regret it.
Mr Khan @ Feb 25th 2008 4:18PM
Kirby 64 is the reason why i've waited so long for them to resurrect that GC/Wii Kirby project. 2.5D Kirbying was awesome, and the move combination was so dynamic and just made it a thrill to play
Plus. King Dedede. He makes any game awesome
Asok @ Feb 25th 2008 4:31PM
Man, part of me is ignoring the Kirby 64 release, seeing as how I already own it...the other part is tempted to buy it out of impulse/laziness...shit, Nintendo, you just know how to milk me.
Kael @ Feb 26th 2008 2:12AM
The "2.5D" term has to be put to rest. It's being used to describe two separate things and failing to describe either one. Learn to know the difference between reality and your senses; games like this have completely 2D gameplay, but it is just represented on the screen using another technique; one of polygons instead of sprites. That doesn't change the gameplay, just perhaps your experience. Describe each element on their own as they deserve to be, not together with an inaccurate and misleading label, or invent and use a new blanket term that works. Thank you for your time. :)
