So, you are really getting a $60 game for free, right? Eventually all the bundles will come with DS3, or they should since every other home game system comes with rumble.

But my point is the $500 price itself. When the Xbox 360 launched at $399 people flipped the hell out! Now here we are more than 2 years later and $500 is seen as 'reasonable'?

Its because they are gradually making improvements/additions to their product. As things cost production gets cheaper and such, they incorporate that into their product. Those are NEW BUNDLES. Dont be an idiot

Bucfann:

When changes are made to the base product, it should distinguish itself from the older models. I can't begin to tell you how much time I spent looking for a Falcon 360 back when all we had was checking lot numbers. At least the HDMI change was apparent on the box. The least they could do was let people know the new machines are out there and how to find them. We only found out when somebody cracked open their 360 and noticed something new. I feel obligated to throw in a: don't be a tool.

how is this going to keep up a good year for sony, when it gives people a reason to hold off on buying a ps3 until june?

If you can even find an 80 gig model in stores right now, it's certainly not as good of a value as getting MGS4 and a DS3 for the same $500. If you don't have a ps3 and want one, might as well wait until june.

That's not great news, especially since they just came off a january where people hailed that 2008 is their year. I guess once this comes out, 2008 is their 7 months.

I'm personally more interested in the 400USD model, and I'd love to see a DS3 bundle for it, included games or not.

Wow. I didn't expect a move this smart from Sony.

Killer App + Machine at the price it already is + New Controller = SCORE!

Good work Sony, good work. Now we no longer have people buying a PS3 for MGS4, we have people buying MGS4 for the PS3.

Great point! I'm surprised no one else thought of this yet. System sales always perk up around tax refund time. It looks like Sony is positioning itself well for the rebate season.

Good bundle - it should sell well.

I wonder if Microsoft is planning a counter-move...

very smart move on Sony's part. one of the best decisions they've made in a while honestly. only thing is.....June is a little more than 3 months away, why announce it now so people can hold out for it?

go ahead and announce the game but they should have held off on announcing a bundle of this caliber.

Agreed, +1. Nice to see someone with some sense of business on these things. But did Sony actually release this info or was it "leaked" and Sony simply decided to confirm it rather than let the rumours run wild?

amazing. this is the SKU to get for fans of MGS who are planning to get a PS3.

100 percent PS1 backwards compatibility,

85 percent PS2 backwards compatibility,

DualShock 3 - the best controller this gen(motion sensing plus more advanced rumble than 360 controller)

80GB - the bigger the better.

This SKU and MGS4 will own!

$500 is a reasonable price for the market that Sony is catering its PS3 for. The Wii markets it's games for the "casual" gamer. Hence, the more casual price. For those of us with the money to spend on HD tvs, bluray players, etc, $500 for the type of technology that the PS3 represents is reasonable. An 80G hard drive, a anticipated game, and a anticipated peripheral (DS3) are enough for plenty of the type of gamer Sony is looking to get with this offer. Many of us already have Wiis and 360s, and even the 40G PS3s. But for us, this is a very tempting offer if you want MGS4 and the DS3. If not, no worries, Sony wasn't realistically expecting to get the business of the 12 year old on his $5 a week allowance with this bundle anyways. They were looking to get the 12 year old's parent's to buy in.
Also, does anyone know if I would be able to keep my downloadable content and games if I sell off my 40G model and purchase this 80G when it comes out?

Since when did $500 become "reasonable" for a game console? Sure, its also a blu-ray player, but that's like saying $5,000 is reasonable for the latest NVIDIA video card that just so happens to have a DELL computer attached to it. Some people just want the video card like some people just want to play games.

I hope that they package the DS3 controller and MGS4 with a 40GB version. Now that it's clear that Bluray has won the format war, I've decided to get a PS3. My rationale for getting the 40GB instead of the 80, is that I've never owned a Playstation before. In the past I've always been an Xbox guy, but have seen too many of my friend's 360s fall victim to the Red Light of Death. The only reason I'm holding out is that I'm waiting for MGS4, and possibly a bundle that includes that and a DS3 controller in a 40GB version. If they don't plan on making a bundle like that, I may just man up and get the 80GB.

Anybody have any recommendations regarding the type of TV to use for gaming, i.e. LCD vs. Plasma?? I'm about to buy a Sharp 42" LCD TV that has a high contrast ration. Don't want to invest the money though is plasmas are better for gaming.

Too bad it only has the reduced backwards compatibility (if any at all, this may be a further downgraded model) with PS2 games.

Since I have an extensive library of PS2 games, and don't want 4 systems set up at once (Gamecube for the GBPlayer, Wii, PS2/3), BC is desired. So I'll be buying a used 60 gig, and ignoring Sony entirely.

I'm really thinking about getting this bundle. This is coming from a xbox 360 owner. The real fact is that I have been considering getting a PS3 since blu-ray won the format war. the PS3 is the cheapest and futureproof Blue-ray player out there.

So the bundle isn't making me buy a PS3, it's merely making me hold off until it comes out since it seems like a good deal with MGS4 and the DS3. If on top of that it as 65nm chip inside, then that would be just amazing.

..Just because you can't afford it doesn't make this package an "unreasonable deal". Heck, I've spent over $300 just on the wiring of my entertainment room (with 110" 1080p projector, 1000w 7.1, HTPC, etc). Since I was going to buy one anyway, $500 for a blu-ray player with regular firmware updates, a next-gen console, a AAA game, AND an updated controller sounds like a deal to me!

I waited till now to purchase a PS3. Glad I waited. I have the new 80 gig on order. About time the dual shock came out! People complain and bitch about the price. Don't forget, the bluray player inside alone is worth $400.00

Seems like a good deal,
I would rather pay like $440 for an 80gb with no MGS4.

just wondering, when it comes out, will Sony pull it off the shelves after a wile, or can I wait for the price to drop.

Just really don't wanna get a summer job!!

It's is the same 80gig just with MGS4. They sold out and didn't release anymore just to wait on MGS4. Trust me I called raising HELL about not being able to find an 80gig. (after being and taking back a 40gig) Life lesson #45 read the fine print!!!
