Dead Space to haunt players this Halloween
Electronic Arts has finalized an appropriate release date for its upcoming survival horror title Dead Space, announcing that the game will keep players in both North America and Europe oxygen-deprived starting this Halloween, October 31. If there was ever a reason for cosplayers to pore over the Sears catalog for toasters to affix to their heads this haunting season, this game is it.
The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and promises a "chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment." EA also notes that Dead Space will force players to face down alien horrors not as a hulking superman but rather as a lowly engineer, though if history has taught us one thing, it's to not underestimate the little guy.

Should I take offense to this as an engineer?

Nope, but I'm going to offend you instead.
Engineers: fixing things which aren't broken since dawn of time.

Spy's sappin' my career choice!
Viridium @ Feb 26th 2008 12:55PM
I wouldn't, danny. That's just the perception by non-engineers. Heck, my engineering department gets crapped on by everyone else, but when it comes down to it, we're the ones who make everything work despite everyone else's screw-ups.
PEO P.Eng. and proud of it!

Gordon Freeman is an Engineer as well.
Jerk Face @ Feb 26th 2008 12:12PM
Gordon Freeman is my hero. I think that's my favorite part of the game - that he's not some soldier or warrior. He's just the most bad ass scientist to ever lay a crowbar into an alien's face.

Epic's steroid freaks from Gears aren't your cup of tea?

I have to admit I love the design of this new character. I want to see some more gameplay. This and the other space game from Capcom Dark Void look interesting.

This game would guarantee win if we could build turrets.
Cyro @ Feb 26th 2008 12:03PM
I really hope this comes out being a good game.

"You ladies shoulda oughta brought some menfolk with ya. I'm through playing games with you..."

"Pore" over not "pour" over.

Does anyone have this feeling that this game was suppose to be System Shock 3?
Andy O. @ Feb 26th 2008 1:03PM
No, it's Gears of War 1.25. All aliens, and no SHODAN! So it's not SS3. Don't bunch it into the same category, please.
Parasite*Evil @ Feb 26th 2008 5:04PM
I'll elaborate.
It seems like EA was making a System Shock 3 and at some point during development they thought the System Shock universe was not something they wanted to continue with or use so they went in a whole new direction and called it "Dead Space". Yes the only similarity is space and horror but how many space horror games are there really.
Andy O. @ Feb 26th 2008 1:02PM
It'll be good, too bad no PC version. :( They are going for less story, more Gears of War, so it should appeal to the masses.
kbomb1upc @ Feb 26th 2008 1:52PM
When was the last time EA made a good new IP? I'm still waiting for Black 2.
shoeshine @ Feb 26th 2008 2:39PM
It actually might be good. I picked up the comic at Wondercon over the weekend, and it was actually pretty good. Besides, do you really need a big story for zombies in space?

What EA did last Halloween? Release Halfgate: London.
