More specifically, Mass Effect PC coming May 6

Now, feel free to start counting the days, the hours, perhaps even the minutes until the game drops. ... Or just buy a 360 already, cheapskate.

Man, and I don't know what to do. Wait for the PC version with better menus and aiming or just keep playing through the game on the 360 (I've just started). I think the improvements, while nice, might not warrant a separate version for those who already have it. Couldn't be happier the option's there though.
dark_inchworm @ Feb 26th 2008 9:39AM
Dude, wait. What?
ThornedVenom (Patapornographer) @ Feb 26th 2008 10:19AM
Grammar nazis should have concentration camps for grammar butchers on the internet.

Foxhound gets +1 for the MGS3 reference.
Chase @ Feb 26th 2008 8:54AM
And thus begins the race for the first sex scene hack.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 26th 2008 9:00AM
Nothing like hot coffee in the morning...
Chase @ Feb 26th 2008 9:03AM
Oh I concur, sir.
My bet is on something involving tentacles. Possibly something furry.
Don't disappoint me, you perverts!
Jerk Face @ Feb 26th 2008 9:09AM
This line of conversation if full of Win. I LOL'ed.
ThornedVenom (Patapornographer) @ Feb 26th 2008 9:11AM
"Sex scene hack" rhymes with "Sexy back".
idiot @ Feb 26th 2008 12:17PM
A watched pot may never boil but rolled pot ALWAYS burns.
rv @ Feb 26th 2008 12:53PM
I was thinking the exact same thing. Please, dudes, don't make one. The game is already controversial without a sex scene hack...

Why does she have molded breast pouches for her armor?
Matt B @ Feb 26th 2008 8:55AM
"Or just buy a 360 already, cheapskate."
This is the reason we don't have to. ;P
Veko @ Feb 26th 2008 9:07AM
Agreed. Just because we're gamers doesn't mean we have to buy 360s. Besides, my PC doesn't RROD on me.
Chase @ Feb 26th 2008 9:08AM
You must not be running Vista.
Phranctoast @ Feb 26th 2008 9:10AM
It is great that there is an alternative to MS's great game lineup and faulty hardware.
James @ Feb 26th 2008 9:11AM
For serious, why drop the $400 or so on the system and the game when we can just drop $50 on the game and play it on our already compatible rigs. :P
Jerk Face @ Feb 26th 2008 9:14AM
Especially since it will be less broken!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 26th 2008 9:15AM
Because I don't have a computer that's not even close to being able to handle a game like Mass Effect?
Phranctoast @ Feb 26th 2008 9:24AM
Vegeta. So according to you. You do have a PC capable of running Mass Effect. Double negatives are fun.
mike @ Feb 26th 2008 9:45AM
I guess the pc market does not care about getting old games. I would rather own a 360 and get my games new when they come out. Getting games late is like watching a tv show everyone has talked about at the wter cooler half a year later. Not to mention I have grown acustom to couch style of play and chatting on XBL. Now, the ONLY pc gaming I do is RTS (Mouse + keyboard still beats controller for those)
Phranctoast @ Feb 26th 2008 10:06AM
Mike,
I guess you stayed away from the orange box, FEAR, and Battle for Middle Earth 2. Works both ways.
The only time it matters when you buy a game is if you're very interested in the MP aspect and dont want to be left behind when everyone jumps to the next best mp game.
Chrysee @ Feb 26th 2008 10:28AM
My PC was pretty excellent when Oblivion came out, but I don't think it'd be so great with any recent games.
Besides, the main reason I'll probably always play a 360/PC game on the 360 is my monitor is 21 inches but my HDTV is 40.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 26th 2008 10:28AM
What I don't understand is why do you care if people would rather play the game on the 360? Seriously in every thread, you're like JUST ANOTHER REASON WHY YOU DON'T NEED A 360 lolololololol. If people want to play it on the pc, that's fine. But if people like me want to play it now on the 360, well that shouldn't be such a big deal.
Phi Nguyen @ Feb 26th 2008 9:23AM
Cool. I do have a 360 but I haven't bought this game yet b/c I heard that the load times were pretty long. Hopefully, caching from the hard drive will speed things up. Do you think that an 8800GT would be able to play this game at a pretty full clip?
Optimaximal @ Feb 26th 2008 10:05AM
The 8800GT can play everything bar Crysis at 'pretty full clip'
Demaar @ Feb 26th 2008 9:34AM
Can someone remind me what this has over the 360 version? Yes, there's the "improved" interface, but that's only so it works with a mouse. Is there anything I should be jealous over?
Optimaximal @ Feb 26th 2008 10:06AM
Did you miss the first post? You'll be able to hack to real full-length hardcore human-on-alien sex scene out of the 'stuff we should have deleted but didn't' folder.
That's worth the games weight in gold!
Einhanderkiller @ Feb 26th 2008 10:25AM
Supposedly many game bugs will be fixed, the framerate will be smoother, even on relatively cheap machines, the graphics will be better, load times will be shorter, there will be new game features such as the inventory and minigame, and the controls will be better--you will have more control over the Mako and you'll have the option to play the game more in a run-'n-gun style with keyboard hotkeys.
Basically, the game will be a lot better than the Xbox 360 version. It's the no-brainer version to get if you have at least a mid-range PC.
Here's a nice build if you plan on building a new PC:

soul899er @ Feb 26th 2008 12:06PM
i can stream and play it through my PS3 :)
Jeff @ Feb 26th 2008 1:59PM
Ein... if you're in that price range (a sub-$200 CPU...) you'd be better off going with AMD. Socket AM2+ motherboards tend to be cheaper, and right now the AMD 6400+ black edition, which you can overclock to 3.6 or so, is the best deal in terms of CPUs. And you have future-upgradeability if the phenoms ever stop sucking or become really cheap.
mike @ Feb 26th 2008 9:48AM
LOL. Who doesent buy a game because of long load times? I mean I hate long load times too, but to avoid buying a game because of them, LOL. Besides mass effect does not have long load times. Only the elevator rides in the citedel are ungodly slow. Everywhere else in the game is fast/normal loading. The only thing thats gonna help you playing the pc version is if some1 comes out with a mod to skip those stupid elevators.
Phi Nguyen @ Feb 26th 2008 10:11AM
Well, it's not like I was avoiding the game. There were so many good titles released on the 360, Wii, and PC this past holiday season that I just didn't have any time (or extra money left over) to pick this one up.
One of the most regarded complaints about Mass Effect was the load times (which is admittedly small, but hey with a metacritic score of 91, I guess there's not much to complain about). Since I have a pretty nice PC, I'm just going to wait to see if the PC version is any better.
Phi ^_^

Sonic the Hedgehog?

No, I wanted to wait for the real, harddrive-using, finished version. Complete with less elevator and inventory BS.

One more reason to love PC gaming....
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 26th 2008 3:23PM
360 leftovers and has beens are reasons to love PC gaming?
Thats like saying "One more reason to love Euro Gaming" when Nintendo announces a euro release 6 months after the US launch.
Mogg @ Feb 26th 2008 12:22PM
I just beat this game (360) on Sunday. It was a good time.
Nate @ Feb 26th 2008 12:57PM
Awesome, can't wait to pick this up. Hook up my PC to my 50" 1080p plasma, break out the wireless KB/mouse.. best of both worlds, I tells ya.
BTW, you don't need the newest and best graphics card to run this... the 360's card is a few years old, so yours can be too and get the same or better experience.
murderbymodem @ Feb 26th 2008 2:45PM
I am not a cheapskate.
I can safely say, if the RROD incidents haden't occured-or maybe still weren't occuring (yes, I am talking of the RROD incident at the GDC) - I would have a 360 right now and be playing halo3
