We're on the fence as to whether or not the upcoming issue of Xbox World 360 Magazine does indeed have legitimate details about the supposedly-canceled Goldeneye 007 remake for Xbox Live Arcade. On the one hand, CVG claims the issue features four pages of details about the unfinished project, with numerous screenshots and comments from Microsoft.
On the other hand, Eurogamer reportedly spoke with Microsoft Game Studios, who claim that Xbox World 360's look at the Goldeneye game is based entirely on rumors and speculation, with no participation from Microsoft in the story.
Both these sources seem entirely at odds with each other, and only seem to agree upon the fact that this game definitely isn't coming out. Our shiny optimistic side wants us to believe in the (heavily watermarked) screenshots and details, but the reality is it's probably all speculation masquerading as fact (not unlike GamePro's Gears of War 2 "coverage"). Hopefully once the issue hits stands we'll have a few more answers.

Let it go.
Seriously, there's nothing you can do. This horse has been beat, it's dying in the corner and soon it will be room temperature.
Can you guys let it go already.
Just for shits and giggles, I'm going home tonight and hooking up my N64 and slapping in my copy of Goldeneye. Franks for the memories.

Video game "journalists" really need to be journalists. They need to source their stories tell the truth. You can't build stories through speculation and second/third hand conjecture. That's what blogs are for :).
Plus, magazines need to involve more thorough criticism - not just a rating, but stimulating their readers minds with "important" questions. Before they're rendered even more irrelevant than they already are. Magazines have a role but it's not this: less shallow analysis, less picture-masturbation: more thought.
*I really hate watermarks. It's as if are taking credit for the hard work designing the game. If I was a writer, I would be really embarrassed to do that.

all game mags have ever been about is what you listed as wrong with it.
as nice as those intresting articles about the industry are that they toss in now and then, the core audiance of the magazines dont give a crap about it.
an intelectual game magazine woudlnt sell well, and ironicly, blogs on the internet are alot better source for that.

I've bought this magazine before. What you'll get is a 3 page spread confirming a rumour, with lots and lots of speculation. Last time I bought their magazine, it's because they had some "New Halo 3 details" article advertised on the front cover, and it was just speculation about the date that was supposedly revealed on the Legendary ending of Halo 2.

Are Xbox 360 fans really this desperate to see a 10 year old FPS on their system? Eep.

As a VIDEOGAME fan, I would love to play Golden Eye again with updated controls and graphics, regardless of whichever system it came out on.
I know that I and a bunch of my friends would have many hours of multiplayer fun again just like we used to, and using Nick Nack to piss them off.

It looks sharp but his hand is the only thing with the most detail. I wouldn't mind this if it did come out but this rumour has been going on for too long now.

Listen, it's not going to the virtual console, so we can all expect some level of improvement as opposed to a quick cash-in.

From the look of it they've given it an overhaul, which would fix things like frame rate.
Hey, even the original runs well on an N64 emulator :)

I call shenanigans. Call me crazy, but I think 'supposedly-canceled' is a new viral marketing technique, in this case.

Those doubting the legitimacy of these screens need to really look up some shots from N64. This has much better textures, sharper graphics, higher poly counts, and better looking, well, everything. Essentially this is either legitimate shots of vaporware or the most elaborate screen markups ever.

Your right about that. Just look at detail on James' hand. We need a comparison shot.
