I don't know how some of you get away with never saying video games. (Yes, it's two words, rawr.)

Person: So what do you do for fun?
Me: Play Mario and Metroid and Zelda and Halo.
Person: I have no idea what in the world you said.
Me: They're names of... well you sit in front of the TV and hold this funny shaped thing.
Person: Ooooh, sounds fun.
Me: Yep.

A Videogame Journalism Styleguide correctly labeled it "videogames" a year or two ago, but nobody seems to follow that still.

Look in the dictionary and see how many fricking words use "video" as a prefix. VIDEOTAPE. VIDEOCASETTE. There's more than a dozen. Get with the '90s, people. Being one word legitimizes.

I've always written it "videogames", it just looks better. It deserves to be one word. :)

To be honest i've never EVER seen it spelt as "videogames".

But then maybe that's 'cause I don't care and just skim over the space or non-space and get on with it.

Sometimes I'll write videogames and other times video games. Maybe I'll start using video-games.

It's only a "video game" if it's something like Dragon's Lair :D

Not sure why I'm even chiming in but....

the argument of

Video game.
Console game.
Arcade game.

is nonsense.

A console game is played on a console, an arcade game is played in an arcade (or on an arcade machine). A "video game" is NOT played on a video, or in a video or anything even related.

Call it a "computer game"? Fine. But as a single term to cover all forms of electronic gaming, we need a separate phrase, and videogame does that.

Heh, just had to click 'add to dictionary' on that last line :)

Do people who play poker and Magic: the Gathering play cardgames? No.

Do people playing Scrabble or Monopoly play boardgames? No.

Do people playing Dungeons & Dragons play role-playinggames? No.

Every other subcategory of games is two words. So "video games" should also be two words.

Is videogame more awesome since it's two words duct taped together?
