Capcom: it's 'Shadaloo,' folks
The bigger the fanbase, the more vitriolic the debates on canon, and Capcom's Street Fighter series is certainly no stranger to tirades and flamewars on character histories, proper chronology, and the like. So it's a big deal when the developer steps in to answer one of the larger questions: How exactly do you spell the name of M. Bison's evil organization?
The official word from top men at Capcom is that the group shall be known as "Shadaloo" -- not "Shadowloo," "Shadoloo," and especially not "Shadowlaw." Are we clear? Good. Now we can move on to more important topics, like if Street Fighter Alpha 1 is really part of the proper timeline.

Well, it's good to know. But I'm still wondering how Zangief does a Spinning Piledriver to anyone without doing serious damage to his Reese's Pieces. Poor guy, he must be infertile by now. ;'[
Seraphim @ Feb 28th 2008 10:04AM
Didn't ET have a thing for Reese's Pieces? *shudder*
emagius @ Feb 28th 2008 11:57AM
That hardly matters, given Z's preferences.
bto @ Feb 28th 2008 3:24AM
Well, I'm certainly glad that's settled, I can now die in peace.
Anticrawl @ Feb 28th 2008 3:31AM
I don't even remember that. Then again I haven't played a Street Fighter game since II. I like it that way but I'll be getting 4 when it comes out.
Johnny_Ridden @ Feb 28th 2008 3:34AM
How about the sound Ryu makes when he does a helicopter kick in SFII?
colin @ Feb 28th 2008 3:47AM
"like a virgin" confirmed
lordwindowlicker @ Feb 28th 2008 5:48AM
That would be the Japanese language... perhaps the name of the technique? It is called "Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku"
Shattercross @ Feb 28th 2008 7:34AM
Sound's like they say
"Todd's Amazing boo kick"

I still think that when Chun-Li does the upside-down helicopter kick thingee she says "MYYY FEEEET STINK!"
Vokyous @ Feb 28th 2008 2:14PM
When I was like five, I always thought they'd shout "INFECTED MUCUS!" Now it's the only thing I hear.
ulovemikeroch @ Feb 29th 2008 6:11PM
She says Spinning Bird Kick in Engrish. How about Raidens psycho crusher rip off move, doesn't he say like Johnny Bought a Car?
Kenofthedead @ Feb 28th 2008 3:56AM
I just want to know how some characters can jump off solid air as though it was a wall kick.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 28th 2008 10:28AM
Because its an anime game. I find it funny you voice your concerns over air jumping, but seem to have absolutely no problem with Ryu throwing fireballs.
The BPM Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine @ Feb 28th 2008 4:44AM
This, coming from the company who can't decide if it's "Dr. Wily", "Dr. Wiley", and on the rare occasion "Dr. Willy".
Dio @ Feb 28th 2008 5:09AM
Capcom has always been a failure to me, even though I love some of their franchises.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 7:54AM
"FELL HOW WEAK YOU TRULY ARE" (Gouki, SFA2)
...still remains one of my favorite CAPCOM errors.

Mega Man Soccer says "Congartulations!" every time you win.

erm yeah.
bigsim @ Feb 28th 2008 5:51AM
Slow news day, then?
Matt B @ Feb 28th 2008 8:56AM
It must be. There was big news about game integration into HOME that I thought would be up by now here since it's been up most everywhere else since early last night.
Syrant @ Feb 28th 2008 6:07AM
Ok, now how the hell do you say it?
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 8:11AM
shat-a-loo ;D
Hey, it's that or Raiden of MORTAL KOMBAT saying "Your Mother's from LA" when he does that "Flying Thunder God" attack.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 28th 2008 10:30AM
Funny, I always thought it sounded like "Heeba-baba-LAY!!!!!"
embassy @ Feb 28th 2008 7:11AM
wait, why wouldnt alpha 1 fit into the series proper?
did i miss that memo?
isnt it before the events of sf2 (or sf1 maybe) ?
Shattercross @ Feb 28th 2008 7:35AM
Alpha 2 replaced it in continuity, then Alpha 3.
CassilineKnight @ Feb 28th 2008 8:09AM
Umm this is one instance where I disagree with the company...
Fuck it...it has and always will be SHADOWLAW!
However I'd definitely appreciate it if Capcom made a timeline of the series so I know just exactly what the heck is going on in SFIV...
I hope its like DOA4 with a storyline to go along with it.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 8:12AM
DOA... Storyline?
-raucous audience laughter-
CassilineKnight @ Feb 28th 2008 8:37AM
Laugh all you want to man..DOA4 had a pretty damn good storyline in my opinion. What with Helena, the ninjas, and all the other characters. I liked how they all interacted. Plus there were cutscenes when you were doing the single player/arcade mode.
All I'm saying is that I want a story to go along with the fighting...is it so much to ask for?
So fuck off sony fanboy...
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 8:53AM
LOL So quick to jump to expletives... pretty shallow, but hey, whatever.
Anyway, DOA's storyline (or lack thereof) IS damnably lame, even for a fighting game series. Granted, it's not as lacking as VF, not as convoluted as KOF, or even as repeatedly-retconned as SF... but definitely as ridiculous as TEKKEN or even BLOODY ROAR(if you want to even bother considering it at all).
In the end, let's face it... gamers are paying $40+ for a barely covered-boobs fighting game(when a XXX hardcore throwdown DVD is equal or cheaper in price). Anyone could've slapped on a elementary-school inspired story to follow that... and what better generic material than "Ninja vs the World/Clan power vacuum"? And c'mon, man... what fighting game out there HASN'T milked the whole "cloning" or "bio-punk siphoning of fighters' abilities" to death? But hey, that's the joy of fighting games -- the fact that you're playing it for the gameplay and violent tactics than story. DOA's no different than the other games in this genre, but far from the best(compared gameplay-wise to the likes of VF; storyline-wise compared to SOUL CALIBUR).
While I can't stand even the sight of Tomonobu Itagaki, I applaud the fact that he continues to hustle people out of cash for this second-rate series. Even you have to admit that they(TECMO)knows this -- the commercial for DOA3 even joked about it being a male-appealing, shallow fighting game.... "She Kicks High" and all that craziness.

Umm where did I say that DOA's storyline was revolutionary or Academy Award winning material?
NO WHERE idiot.
I just said I liked it. Its a freaking fighting game. Not a Shakespeare drama....
That being said however DOA did a fine job IMO of creating a decent story that made the game flow easily and connected things very well.
Thats ALL I have to say on it.
You trying to shit on the game is just stupid and shows how arrogant sony fanboys are.
So once again you know what to do if you don't agree with me (which is your right).
Mills and Boom @ Feb 28th 2008 9:54AM
Allow me to double the raucous laughter.
Hahaha.
Hey hey next up he convinces us Mario Kart has an epic and interesting story too, or Tetris! Hahaha.
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 9:59AM
Before I begin, let it be known that I haven't insulted you directly - so I'll "respectfully" ask you do the same. I keep re-reading my SN, previous posts, and even glimpsed twice at my icon... I can't figure out where you keep getting this "sony fanboy" remark from. I couldn't give a rat's patoot about the SONY company beyond the fact that MGS appeared on it(hence the SN). But it's been on Nintendo and Microsoft systems too... so if it's possible to be a fan of all three, then hey - *guilty as charged*. And speaking of multiple consoles - let's not forget that the DEAD OR ALIVE series did appear on consoles/arcades other than Microsoft's own. So the odd notion of hating on the series because of it's recent Xbox-popularity is moot.
Now...
If you re-read the(accidental double)post above, I never denoted the *opinion* you stated about liking the damn game. That's your perrogative. I'm not out to change anyone's mind about anything ... it's not worth either of our time to discuss that. Nor am I picking a fight or console bashing here.
But if bashing is to be done on this topic, it's as aforementioned -- fighting game plot/storylines.
I stated that most fighting games, DOA especially, have god-awful, laughable storylines. I didn't even cite you as saying "it was revolutionary/academy award winning" because you didn't say it! However, I agree on having a fighting games with cutscenes - it's a welcome addition! But let's face it, that extra work is for nothing if the story & plot are as deep as a shotglass. I even explained further by throwing in examples of not just DOA's faults, but two known and cliche'd examples of similar storylines across the fighting game genre. So it's NOT just DEAD OR ALIVE, it's everywhere. I personally love playing fighting games... the gameplay, tactics, and some of the character designs are the biggest appeal here. True 3D fighters(VF, DOA, TEKKEN, RIVAL SCHOOLS, et al) even moreso, since it expands the technical gameplay exponentially. :)
FOXHOUND @ Feb 28th 2008 10:03AM
Mills and Boom ---
LOL! Actually if I recall, the pack-in Xbox console XBL game "Tetris Worlds" tried giving it a storyline. Wasn't good, but still - the idea of it is Uwe Boll'icious.

Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 28th 2008 10:34AM
Fox, you're clearly dealing with a 13-17 year old kid with an inferiority complex. Don't bother.
Dr0ooo @ Feb 28th 2008 8:37AM
Thats one mystery solved. Now we can focus all of our time on figuring out what connection Rose has to any of the street fighter canon, aside from the fact that she's some crazy gypsy who has it out for Bison.
LeChuck @ Feb 28th 2008 8:40AM
La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo?
Jerk Face @ Feb 28th 2008 9:04AM
Right. So if that word is pronounced in Japanese wouldn't it sound like "SHAH-dah-low" phonetically?
danny. @ Feb 28th 2008 9:04AM
Gooooood Mooorning Shaadaloo!
xGeneral DEATHx @ Feb 28th 2008 9:44AM
Say, what do you do when one of Bison's soldiers throws a grenade at you?
Give up?
You pick it up, pull the pin, and toss it back!
I'm going to sit in the corner now, as punishment for remembering that.
