Europe gets GT5 and Blu-Ray PS3 bundles, same ?399 price
Since we all know Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe can't agree on a single thing (see: GPS, PlayTV, 80GB PS3) it should come as little surprise that they're releasing two 40GB PS3 bundles, neither of which have the words "metal" or "gear" or "solid" anywhere on them. So there's no 80GB MGS4 bundle, but there is a GT5: Prologue bundle reportedly dropping March 29 and a Blu-ray bundle – including Spider-Man, 300, and Casino Royale –dropping March 19th.
Both bundles will retail for €399, the same price the 40GB PS3 is currently – a great deal to be sure, though bean counters may consider three Blu-ray discs a decidedly better deal than GT5: Prologue. Either way, they're both "free." Check out a pic of the Blu-ray bundle after the break.

Duh, are you stupid?
It's a leap year.
Christopher Grant @ Feb 28th 2008 2:41PM
Alright, alright, I fixed it already! :-P
dgonchild @ Feb 28th 2008 2:38PM

A movie pack and still no hi-def cables or a remote?
FidliousWong (Oatmeal Defense Force) @ Feb 28th 2008 3:42PM
What I love about this comment? It's shit for free yet you still find something wrong with it. It's $90 of free movies, can't you spring the $10 for a cable, cheapass?
KayRazy Ken Kutaragi @ Feb 28th 2008 3:47PM
Esthcuse me Tina but you can youz the contwola as a wemote.
Shall I say hey still no battery pack or charge station, or wifi, or HDD standard or Blu-ray or reliable system...or CURRENT hardware or battery charger or batteries or DVD playback? Or free online play?
I believe this covers both the wii and the 360's extras that dont come with the system.
thank you...try again.
FidliousWong (Oatmeal Defense Force) @ Feb 28th 2008 3:55PM
Wow, thank you Ken. You took a reasonable response of mine, added to it, and managed to sink the rebuttal into fucktard land. Sometimes I think you do this stuff simply for the lulz.
Knight Marquise @ Feb 28th 2008 4:01PM
I still can't believe the same people who defend no high def cables with a PS3 are usually the same people who bitch and moan about paying $40.00 a year for a superior online service.
Noshino @ Feb 28th 2008 4:13PM
I agree with Knight! $40 dollars for a service that is available elsewhere for free is nothing compare to $10 for "high def" cables!

you guys are crazy. someone who is buying the PS3 as a Blu-ray player (spoiler: the movie pack is aimed at them) is more than likely not going to want to use the included controller, they would want a conventional remote or to be able to use a universal one. since option B is out, i would think that they would include the BR remote in a Blu-ray centric pack. and you can also make the assumption that someone buying the PS3 for Blu-ray has a high def TV already with either component, or more likely, HDMI hook ups so an HDMI cable pack-in in this case wouldnt be a bad idea.
i mean its not like you cant get HDMI cables for like $5 online but not everyone knows about Monoprice and Newegg and they would be the ones to get jipped into buying $60-$100 HDMI cables.
dont get me wrong, you are getting a good value in 3 Blu-ray movies for free (plus the other 5 you get when buying a PS3) but i just feel like for their target audience they could have left out one movie and replaced with a remote and HDMI cable. now people will probably spend between $50-$100 extra buying the remote and the cable.....or maybe that was the plan all along.

@Baby sea Tuna

ViagraFiend @ Feb 28th 2008 3:04PM

Little Johnny puts naked oracle scene on A-B repeat.

John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:14PM
I am pretty sure its 1-800-598-9671
I think thats it champ...
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 28th 2008 3:37PM
I just got mine last week, dont fret. Took about 2 1/2 months. They'll get there but it takes foreeeeeeeeeever, and the selection was meh IMO. But alas its free right =)
John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:43PM
@Fenix
The selection was not great but it far from just meh. Especially considering I picked 2 and my old lady got 3.
The Omen
Stealth
Chicken Little
Corpse Bride....
Something Else
They have switched up the deal so many times but I remember those 4... Certainly not the best selection ever but watchable. Especially good for the kids flicks.. Chicken little actually looks awesome on my 52 inch HD... The CG movies certainly look best
John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:44PM
@Fenix
Italian Job was #5
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 28th 2008 4:03PM
Yeah I know they do switch it up. Damnit!!! I wanted Chicken Little and Italian Job is a sweet ass movie =(
I got....
Pirates of the Carribean
Swordfish
Flight of the Phoenix
Stir of Echoes
SWAT
deaftly @ Feb 28th 2008 4:20PM
Dude, it took 4 months for my 5 hddvds and they fucked up 3 out of the 5 movies I picked. Instead of blazing saddles I got a fucking U2 concert. The blurays only took about a month and a half and at least I got the movies i picked.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Feb 28th 2008 4:46PM
i think it took about 3 months for my Blu-ray movies to show up. the paper that came with it said they ran out of something and had to replace it with Into the Blue. the selection wasnt great at first glance but they were a little better than expected when they arrived.
i got:
Blazing Saddles
Invincible
Hart's War
Stir of Echoes
Into the Blue
the first 3 were great and the last 2 werent as terrible as originally perceived.
kbomb1upc @ Feb 28th 2008 2:50PM
Sony sure do love their bundles... I don't even have a clue how many this makes. But the movie pack does look better then getting a demo.

On the subject of game system bundles:
"the system board design of the Saturn was not as easy to condense in a cost-saving manner and Sega fell behind after price drops offered by Nintendo and Sony. This forced Sega to "bundle" more software with the system in an attempt to make the more expensive Saturn competitive with its rivals. Although the quality of the bundled software was high, gamers preferred to purchase a cheaper system from the competition and purchase game titles of their own choice instead."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Saturn
The PS3 is much like the Sega Saturn. It is difficult to program for due to its complicated multi-=processor architecture. That same fact means it is more difficult to reduce production costs, making price a 'weak point' of the system. Sony, like Sega of old, is attempting to package software in an attempt to add value to the too-expensive hardware.
kbomb1upc @ Feb 28th 2008 4:49PM
@Slickback
Sory!!! Iz didnt now the gammer police waz lose1!!1!1!
FidliousWong (Oatmeal Defense Force) @ Feb 28th 2008 4:52PM
So that explains WiiSports with the Wii. Not to mention 360 bundling software this last christmas. How could I not draw Sega Saturn parallels? Oh wait, I know why, because I'm not fucking retarded.
Zoesch @ Feb 28th 2008 5:12PM
As far as I am aware the PS3 can be reduced in size and Sony has stated that a slim one is feasible but not currently on the map.
But you know what console can't be made slimmer because it's a fucking nuclear reactor?
I know you have a huge need to reach out and whine, that's fine and dandy, at least do something as basic as to google for "Smaller PS3" before trying.
Bundling happens all the time, live with it, it's basic marketing regardless of how well your product sells.
LiK @ Feb 28th 2008 2:53PM
Wow, Europe gets some love finally.
klitorisaurus @ Feb 28th 2008 3:06PM
Whats with all the hoopla over a demo?! I LOVE Gran Turismo, it's the main reason I bought a PS3 over 360, but this is getting out of hand. GT4 prologue came and went like a fart in a hurricane yet this damn game seems to be all over the place. PD is just buying time with this crap and everyone is falling for it. GIVE ME THE REAL GAME ALREADY!!
But seriously, I love you PD, you go ahead and take your time. I'll wait. forever. and. ever. But I'm not buying this SHIT.
Maybe I will, but if I do I'm not gonna admit to it.
me @ Feb 28th 2008 6:33PM
I totally agree i was in gamespot and got into an arguement with an employee over this shit. he was trying to lure a customer into reserveing it and i said he shouldnt just wait for the "real" game. HE got pissed. I see so many people excited over this. and its stupid in the end your gonna pay 100 for a racing game. Forza demo 25 cars and 3-5 tracks and it was free. Ive had and enjoyed all the GT so i couldnt believe when i heard they were pulling this shit. whats worse is that people are going nuts over.....Why the hell would you reserve a demo. ESpecially since they havent added anything worthwhile except online(which should have been there anyway) Where are the bodykits when i change my exhaust i was wanna see it. How can you be called a simulator and only do the performace side but not the visual. oh yea and that drifting is horrible it needs work. maybe its better with the steering wheel iDK
Kalil @ Feb 28th 2008 3:07PM
we should get the bluray pack here
but i want the white ps3 to hurry and come out
John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:09PM
all 3 announced Bundles look like good deals dependingonyou preferances. If I was going to buy one it would be the MGS 4 bundle. I would want at least limited backwards compatibility. I have the 60GB so it doesn't matter to me. GT5 Prologue is going to be awesome and the price does not bother me especially if the vehicles and cash transfer over to the full version (not sure if they do).
To call GT5 a demo is a bit harsh. Its certainly not a full version but its much more than a standard 1 track 3 car demo.
John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:10PM
sorry my space bar is acting up
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 28th 2008 4:05PM

Mills and Boom @ Feb 28th 2008 3:15PM
I thought most games systems come with demos, what's the fuss?
John McPoop @ Feb 28th 2008 3:48PM
The Wii certainly did.. An incomplete demo at that.. Wii sports is the worst EVER
Raikage (Ludwig Defense Force) @ Feb 28th 2008 4:09PM
I'm pretty sure Folding@Home is the worst demo I've played.
Wii Sports is probably the best pack-in since SMB on the NES

klitorisaurus @ Feb 29th 2008 1:21AM

CB @ Feb 28th 2008 4:45PM
What's with all the bundling??
Curmeo @ Feb 29th 2008 1:45AM
wow, these two bundles for Europe and the MGS4 bundle for NA will guarantee PS3 outsells 360 worldwide consistently from now on.
looks like by sometime 2009 PS3 will have outsold 360 worldwide in total hardware units.
Congrats Sony. everyone thought the initital high $600/$500 price and late launch meant PS3 would be last place this gen, but you're on your way to proving them wrong.
SeriousKriss @ Feb 29th 2008 4:14AM
Dammit, I wanted the MGS4 bundle :( Maybe the € will remain strong enough so that it's not too expensive to import...
