No demo for Grand Theft Auto IV
It's no secret that around these parts, we love demos. In fact, we love them so much that when a game doesn't have a demo, we start to get a little nervous. "What are they hiding?" we wonder aloud, much to the chagrin of our friends and family. So you can imagine our disappointment when we read today that we shouldn't be expecting a demo for Rockstar's upcoming crime epic, Grand Theft Auto IV.
OK, so that doesn't necessarily have us worried about the quality (it is GTA after all), and their excuses for going sans demo do make sense. But will that stop us from being moderately grumpy for the next hour as a result? No. No it won't.

He has a SPAS, what more do you want?
Paul B @ Feb 28th 2008 6:29PM
Bummer.....ah well not long to wait now:)
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 28th 2008 6:27PM
Finally! I can post again =p
Truepatriot @ Feb 28th 2008 6:29PM
wait you mean ppl expected a demo?hell rockstar doesnt even show gameplay.everything you see of gta4 is in game but with no hud and stuff its not gameplay.
the only reason you see much more of gta4 then the previous gtas is because it was delayed if it was on time we would have gotten like 2 trailers and the game would come out a week after the second trailer.
Mysterio @ Feb 28th 2008 6:30PM
Well... that does kind of suck. However, GTAIV is literally right around the corner so not being able to play a demo of GTAIV isn't quite as bad as if the game wasn't right around the corner. Oh well.
About 2 months to go.
Fernando Rocker @ Feb 28th 2008 6:32PM
Why are my post invisible?
ill trooper @ Feb 29th 2008 9:47AM
Do you have to say absolutely everything out loud?
ViagraFiend @ Feb 29th 2008 10:04AM
Theyre not invisible. But we can make them that way [-]
HighFiveJesus @ Feb 28th 2008 6:32PM
wow the site's messed up right now huh
Twist @ Feb 28th 2008 6:37PM
You know in this case no demo might be the way to go. Lately demo's have been turning me off of more games than they have turned me on to. After playing the Turning Point, Frontline, Turok, and Devil May Cry 4 demo I pretty much lost all interest in those games. So if GTA4 just ends up being more of the same I am more likely to buy it without playing a demo.
Mystic @ Feb 28th 2008 6:46PM
WTF is this? First there is absolutely NO gameplay footage, and now no demo? To me that sounds like they want to sell as many as they can on name alone and not on the merits of a good game.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 28th 2008 10:17PM
......
NO FUCKING DUH!! This is fucking rockstar we're talking about. Since when do they need to put out a demo to get people to buy this game.
Cal @ Feb 29th 2008 4:06AM
Brand loyalty + Hype + Rockstar + GTA = Lots of sales
ill trooper @ Feb 29th 2008 9:47AM
Or you could think of it this way, if you're a fan:
(Sandbox gameplay + quality + insane fun) x 3 installments = Brand Loyalty
...And it will make a lot more sense to you. There are certain directors or writers that I will always give the benefit of the doubt and see their films, sometimes avoiding the trailers and commercials if I can. For me, GTA:IV is one of those things that I'd rather NOT have a demo for; I want to buy it, head home, and just be engrossed in it for the first time.
Grant @ Feb 28th 2008 6:46PM
no demo?
good, they will have less things delaying the final product.
I'm sure a month or so later they'll release one.
Curtis the Claw Game Master V2 @ Feb 28th 2008 6:46PM
Invisible posts FTW!
Eh @ Feb 28th 2008 6:54PM
This is common sense, how can GTA have a demo without giving people almost the whole game? It doesnt have any levels since the entire game is one big map.
mike @ Feb 29th 2008 2:00AM
go play the saitns row demo. That made me buy the game it was so good. and it didnt give u the full game.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Feb 29th 2008 9:42AM
See also: Crackdown Demo.
I would never have bought crackdown without its demo, just like I probably won't buy GTA4 without playing it extensively first.
Abuzar @ Feb 28th 2008 7:39PM
What the hell is up with the comments? They're all whited out...
Anticrawl @ Feb 28th 2008 7:50PM
There is no demo because they don't want you to know you about to pay 60-70 dollars on something you've already owned.
Jonah Falcon @ Feb 28th 2008 8:59PM
Why would they need to waste manpower on a demo when it's going to SELL? Do they need to issue a demo to convince people to buy the game?
Kalil @ Feb 28th 2008 9:36PM
dont care
just wanna see how the ps3 vrsion plays out
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Feb 28th 2008 10:10PM
Oh wow what the fuck is goin gon? I can't even see what I'm writing. Good thing I took those typing classes.
anyways, not surprising. It isn't like Rockstar needs to put out a demo.
Ryan @ Feb 28th 2008 10:44PM
I'm glad there's no demo. I don't want to be teased like that, weeks before the release of the game. I want it all at once.
LiK @ Feb 28th 2008 11:32PM
no demo eh? oh well, it'll still sell tons.
Batzarro @ Feb 28th 2008 11:32PM
Ha. Demo for an open world game like GTA4? Surely you jest?
Anticrawl @ Feb 29th 2008 12:18AM
Uhh there have been demos of the previous games and Crackdown managed to have a demo.
Babel @ Mar 1st 2008 6:49AM
Too right, Batzarro. The Burnout Paradise demo did no justice to the overall game - it was too cramped and limited. I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been for my friend assuring me the demo left out all the fun of the game.
mike @ Feb 29th 2008 2:06AM
Since NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I agree with mystic here. No gameplay, no demo, not even a picture with the hud and some1 playing. They dont even have a freaking DESCRIPTION of the multiplayer mode, and this game is weeks away. Sound to me like they got a steaming pile of crap and dont want any1 to see it so they can sell a million in pre-orders and whatnot off the name.
Im not going near this game with a 10 foot pole. They lost a sale here.
I was never interested in or cared about saints row and then I saw the demo on marketplace. I tried it and liked it alot, so I bought the game. If your game is good, a demo can only be good for you and you have no need to worry. But when you pull this kind of crap, you know the game is going to be crap. Halo 3 didnt do this. They knew the game was good and showed it off. Something this game would be doing if it was any good.
Ihavepants @ Feb 29th 2008 2:40AM
Your comment failed the moment you said Halo 3 was good.
Anticrawl @ Feb 29th 2008 2:46AM
Well said friend, and it's just your business if you liked Halo 3. I loved the game for the first week and a half honestly. Finally got a little closure sort of and the multiplayer was decent. Only took me a week to unlock everything with only a moderate amount of play time then the game got stale.
Honestly these Grand Theft Auto games are hindered by their simplistic sand-box design. I ended up plaything a little of the story then wandering off and doing whatever I wanted til I got bored and never played again. I still feel cheated out of my 7.50 for San Andres. I won't be even considering this game without some form of demo and even if there was a demo I'd have to be really fucking bored to download it.
That said I did enjoy Grand Theft Auto III a great bit, but their isn't much need to anymore unless you want to check out the new novelty radio stations or you feel the need to check out the new and improved gameplay (READ: We have kites and submarines now!!! That's worth something right??? Please buy our game...)
ill trooper @ Feb 29th 2008 9:36AM
GTA3, GTA:Vice City, and GTA:San Andreas were our demos. I'm in.
You say you need a demo? Then this game isn't for you.
Tranando @ Feb 29th 2008 3:13AM
They don't need a demo to make it sell.
Nice that the PS3 version is looking to be better looking version. I can give the DLC a miss, as it's not out til mid-2009, by then XBoxes will be available for $20 in the junk shops..
Anticrawl @ Feb 29th 2008 5:11AM
Nice to see people being entirely confident as an idiot.
JoseMiguel @ Feb 29th 2008 11:14AM
Tome the reason may very well be that they don't want controversy being made just before the release.
With people like Jack Thompson looking to boycott the release of the game, maybe not giving them any material to work with before release is a good call.
Rastaman @ Feb 29th 2008 12:54PM
you are such a douche, go away.
SonofSeth @ Mar 1st 2008 7:08AM
Brand loyalty? I'm in!
blogerrasasn @ Mar 21st 2008 10:53AM
GTA4 doesn't need a demo those of us that played the other gta's can tell U that it never had a demo for the series and did fine on it's own if need a demo than this isn't ur type of game stop hating on a "video game"
if your that great make your own @#$%% bloggers
jakob patterson @ Apr 1st 2008 8:44PM
first play stations suk soo much cock and im going to leave it at that because i probably dont have any room to talk about how much it suks. second if youre a douche and youre going to show us that ur going through youre period because their is now demo then u should go kiil yourself because really even if they did the whole burnout paradise thing and closed us off from most of the city then we will less interested once we buy it because we will know all the buttons and gameplay features and its better to put the game in and be fuking suprised. and third if you want to get all the information on the multiplayer go to wikipedia and type in gta 4. this game is going to kick ass doesnt matter if theirs a demo or not beacause when i heard their was no demo i dod one thing that u pissing and moaning bitches didnt do and thats get over it.
jakob patterson @ Apr 1st 2008 8:43PM
get over it
