It seems that Aerosmith isn't the only band staking their rhythm game claim with Guitar Hero III: Gwen Stefani's semi-ska/pop outfit No Doubt is set to hit the game ... well, today. It should be available on Xbox Live now as a matter of fact, and on PSN later today.
500 points will net you three songs from the band's Tragic Kingdom album, "Don't Speak", "Excuse Me Mr" and "Sunday Morning." Admittedly we're not hardcore fans, but these seem like weird choices. No "Just A Girl"? No "Spiderwebs"? Oh well, at least they're master tracks. Song choice aside, is this something you'll be picking up?

Some slight signs of life from Activision. About time.
I sold my GH3 rig after Activision screwed me by forcing Harmonix to make my guitar incompatible. And on April 1, I can have two Harmonix guitars and Activision's opportunities to make money off me for rhythm games will be gone for good.

Agreed. Guitar Hero is dead to me, and this DLC is too little, too late. Why buy songs with just guitar, when you can buy them for Rock Band and play guitar, drums and vocals? Fuck Guitar Hero!

Fernando, do we have to go through the whole "My music is better than yours" bullshit everytime there is an update to GH3 or Rock Band? We get it already, in your warped fanboy mind your music is topps. Please, just STFU already.

Yes, until they release good music. You know "rock" music.

How do you go from a ska band to a wannabe hiphop whore? ugh. She was so much hotter back then.

I always thought of ska music having a lot more brass in it...

My punk and ska-liking friends won't let me call No Doubt punk or ska. They insist I call it pop, which it isn't. Although Gwen did a lot of pop stuff later.
If you ask me, No Doubt is punk. Hook-based poppy punk, but punk. As mentioned above, ska requires quite a bit of horns, and No Doubt typically has none.

No Doubt is more ska than anything else.
Yes, part of ska is the horns but the reggae influence is essential, too. No Doubt has a VERY heavy reggae influence...especially their first 2 albums.
So they aren't PURE ska or punk or reggae one way or the other...but pound for pound, ska is what they come closest to sounding like.

They considered themselves ska. Their first album had much more brass in it. Still, kinda sucky ska.

If anything, No Doubt is pop rock and ska. I may not know much about ska, but I know that they (especially Gwen) sure as hell ain't punk.
Oh, and as for "real" punk bands, I would recommend Black Flag, Minor Threat, Reagan Youth, and of course, the Ramones.

And if you require ska punk, I'd recommend checking out Operation Ivy, Leftover Crack, or even Rancid.

Okay... this just shows Neversoft has no CLUE what they are doing. If this was Rock Band, maybe SLIGHTLY more appropriate. But these aren't exactly Guitar songs... might as well throw Hella Good on the collection.

Fid: I seriously doubt Neversoft is the one negotiating song rights for the game. They're just the poor guys who take the rap for what the Guitar Hero franchise has become. I don't blame them. They would have been stupid to turn down that gig.
also, I won't buy these songs. I haven't played Gh3 in ages and have no desire to.

please theyve buried tony hawk and spiderman as well. No Doubt is trash music for nerdy highschool girls living in the later years of the 90s IMO. Just dont like em hows about gh just giving up.

Weird. I totally agree on the song choices. I dislike No Doubt with a passion, but Spiderwebs and Just A Girl I could just about live with, not this other junk.

They're not the best guitar songs, but I'm overjoyed to see Sunday Morning included. I don't care how callous and musically obtuse you are, Tragic Kingdom was fucking great. >:(
I think this is the first time I've ever been jealous to any degree over DLC being in GH3 but not Rock Band.

whymog, finally someone said what you did. Tragic Kingdom is one of the most complete ska/pop albums i've ever heard and it's even better that besides "Don't Speak", they didn't just include the hits but instead put the lesser known songs on.
This is the first piece of DLC I will be buying for GH3 and I am happy about it.

Sunday Morning is a great song. I'd have chosen Just a Girl, Sunday Morning and End It On This personally. But these would all be far better in Rock Band. Why would I get these for GH?

No, and you outlined the exact reason why. Weird song choices.
