Call of Duty 4 feature patch is now live

In case you missed the post (for shame!) expect host migration (even when a host drops teams stay together), better accuracy for snipers and ACOG scope users, an expanded Kill Cam that includes claymores, airstrikes and grenades, nine new spawn points on each map, quick mute and some other tweaks. ... Well, what are you waiting for? Go play already!

I would love to play... oh wait got the RROD yesterday. Thanks MS
Huey2k2 @ Feb 29th 2008 1:02PM
I love it how every time there is an article about a 360 game some random poster who has never posted before tells everyone about how his 360 RROD'd today, or last night, or whatever.
Gotta love the random anonymous trolls.
Ryan @ Feb 29th 2008 2:19PM
I too, got the RROD yesterday playing COD.. Had someone in my crosshairs, and bam.. RROD
emotaku @ Mar 2nd 2008 1:25PM

RROD attacked.

Yea my cousin owns every system ever put out into production. I get my fix of everything non-Nintendo thru him.
Mark @ Feb 29th 2008 9:18AM
I guess this entry tells us which current-gen console the Joystiq crew does most of its gaming on. Hmm.
Justin McElroy @ Feb 29th 2008 9:19AM
Actually, it's just me. Everyone else is lazy and not awake yet. Also, most of us have CoD4 on the 360 so we can play together.
xFenixKnightx @ Feb 29th 2008 9:56AM
Yeah Justin and the rest of the Stiq staff know whats the better console for online gaming ;)
That controller isnt too shabby either eh? lol!
GoonieGooGoo @ Feb 29th 2008 3:04PM

No, there are no kids on XBL whatsoever. None. Zero. Especially not on Halo. 8/10 people in a game aren't kids.

FoxHoundADAM @ Feb 29th 2008 9:22AM
It seasm like the few complaints I had about CoD4 online have been fixed. Seriously this game is tops!

C-C-C-Combo breaker!!!!!!
Robotochan @ Mar 1st 2008 6:04AM
I wish they'd have fixed the claymores. Random detonations and detonating when someone is on the floor above. Other than that I'm happy, oh and if the quick mute worked in the lobby as well... that'd be swell

seems like?
FoxHoundADAM @ Feb 29th 2008 9:30AM
To be fair they have sold quite a few more CoD4 copies on the 360 than the PS3 at this point.
john brady @ Feb 29th 2008 9:32AM
watching a 'hail mary' grenade soar over buildings and take you out on the kill cam is hilariously frustrating
The Fuzz 53 @ Feb 29th 2008 11:29AM
Those fucking things should blow up in mid-air.
steverl22 @ Feb 29th 2008 9:34AM
Played a few matches and everything seems good. They have a new IW icon in the lobby as well.
Brent @ Feb 29th 2008 9:36AM
Game companies everywhere could learn a few things from Infinity Ward. Great game, great support, 'nuff said.
Player1 @ Feb 29th 2008 9:59AM
Ummm, you know they did have this game out for like 6 months with all these bugs, then instead of fixing the bugs first, added all this additional stuff. Not that I don't appreciate the new stuff, but FIXING the game should have been the priority. Seriously, trying to play in a party online has been terrible. Other companies should learn from their mistakes.
KingOfGods @ Feb 29th 2008 10:09AM
6 months...I thought the game came out in Nov. 07?
Brent @ Feb 29th 2008 10:15AM
Well, the game hasn't been out even 4 months, and do you have any idea how long it takes to do a bug fix, test it, get it approved, etc? 4 months ain't bad...
Player1 @ Feb 29th 2008 10:19AM
Well when you do an online beta you expect the online to kinda work. Seriously, I can think of no other game on the 360 that had as many online issues and DIDN'T have an online beta. You know this isn't Infinity Ward's first online game. Oh, and 5 months, sorry!
Joshua @ Feb 29th 2008 11:00AM
See, though...your argument is completely blown out of the water by fact.
1) It's not hella buggy. It has some issues, I haven't played a LIVE game yet that doesn't. Anyone that says any game has come out perfect is, for all intents and purposes, a fanboy.
2) The new content is created by DESIGNERS. Bug fixes are created by DEVELOPERS. See the difference? They didn't "make new content" and then make the patch, it was simultaneous development.
3) I'm happy with the patch...but very disappointed they did nothing to help us kick team killer in hardcore...I rarely play anything that isn't hardcore...so not only do I not really get to take advantage of the kill cams, the biggest complaint from hardcore players hasn't been fixed.
Player1 @ Feb 29th 2008 11:16AM
There are several issues with online play but not everyone will have noticed if they don't use parties for example.
For one, you have the playlist data issue. If you send people invites and they accept from the dashboard, they will not be able to join. It will tell you your playlist data is not up to date or something. So you have to go all the way to the live lobby in COD, then join. That at least had a workaround.
Then there is the issue of a party getting into a match together. Most of the time a party will not be able to get into a match together because some people will have some issues that the game will blame on their router settings. Yet all those same people have no problem getting into a match together in Halo for example. I had to put a static IP on my 360 to improve the reliability (hopefully I can remove it now that this patch is out so Connect 360 will work). So in half the matches you go in you hear someone saying "back out" to their party members than did make it. What makes it even stranger is I will have one guy in my party not make it one time, then another guy other times. Like it's just them two that can't be in a match together, then eventually it works. WTF? Sucks to spend 30 minutes just trying to get into a match though only to have...
The host quit. Who is the host even? Nobody knows. Even if it appears the match started with your party, you can't be sure any of you are the host. This is something that never should have happened and should have been addressed in the online beta.
Hopefully these things are all fixed now, but I certainly never had issues like this in any of my other 360 games. Not halo, not R6, not even my arcade games.
Hey, I LOVE this game and appreciate that they are fixing it and giving us improvements, but I think they could have notices some of these things earlier, especially with an online beta.
KingOfGods @ Feb 29th 2008 12:31PM
If your party is the first in the room then your party leader is host
josh @ Feb 29th 2008 12:32PM
I play CoD in parties all the time and while occasionally i don't automatically leave when my party leaves a game (which i think is lame anyway, leaving a match in session), i have never noticed any huge issues.
the only sorta big issue is when you get a game where the host leaves, that sucks.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Feb 29th 2008 3:24PM
People, this isn't like that Sims 2 Expansion where people had the right to be angry about the lack of patches (EA refused to acknowledge some game-crushing bugs, took ages to release a patch even though a hacker had one out a few days after the game came out, etc.)
CoD 4 is hardly buggy and this is hardly a bug fix as much as it is a feature improvement.
unosturgis @ Feb 29th 2008 4:12PM
player 1, sounds like you need to replace that fisher price internet connection!
SickNic @ Mar 1st 2008 2:40AM
Player 1,
You obviously never suffered through COD2 when that launched with the 360. The online was the most terrible online expience I've ever had, until they fixed it long after it's release. I am impressed IW did such a great job with so few complaints, and even then, I am impressed that it only took 4 months to fix the bugs this time...
NoFanBoy @ Feb 29th 2008 9:46AM
I still can't believe there are people out there that have this game for the PS3, or that even bought a PS3 for that matter. I'm not a fan boy, I just can't find one good reason to buy a PS3 yet.
Matt B @ Feb 29th 2008 9:59AM
Over 10M people own a PS3 and you still don't believe it?!? And you call yourself nofanboy?!?
PS3 am doomed....amirite?
Player1 @ Feb 29th 2008 10:01AM
It's called blu-ray. But yeah, there isn't much as far as games yet if you already have a 360.
CassilineKnight @ Feb 29th 2008 10:04AM
Umm yeah prepare yourself for the sdf...
Here I'll give you a lil sample of whats to come..
But what about HEAVENLY SWORD!? UNCHARTED!? Just wait till...
Haon @ Feb 29th 2008 10:15AM
I have both systems and there was no way in hell I was playing by myself with strangers all the time. Its just a reality that most of my friends have 360s and its probably the same for a lot of people.
WhoMe @ Feb 29th 2008 10:09AM
I can say the same thing about there not being much as far as games when I have a PC. Really, every big "exclusive" comes out on the PC a few months later with better graphics, fixes and added content. Not to mention free online play.
Player1 @ Feb 29th 2008 10:12AM
I will only be impressed with the patch when I can get a whole party into a game together in one try.
primetime4 @ Feb 29th 2008 10:29AM
It's called free online play buddy. No the cost of Live really isn't an issue but if you only play online occassionally you start to feel like you are wasting money. Not to mention it's a much quieter system.
daymonster @ Feb 29th 2008 10:59AM
metal gear solid 4, mlb the show, bluray, web browser, blue tooth? I have both 360 and ps3 but they are both sweet.
Jack @ Feb 29th 2008 12:02PM
I play on PS3. Its fun even though I suck golf balls through a hose.

rc @ Feb 29th 2008 9:51AM
You may not be a fanboy, but you're certainly an asshole. Love my PS3 and COD4 on it is as good or better than on the 360. So, word of advise. STFU. TIA.
NoFanBoy @ Feb 29th 2008 10:09AM
wow, I don't think I've ever been called an A-hole... thanks for your originality. I'm sorry, but for me, there is nothing of interest on the PS3 at this point. The exclusive games that brought me to the PS2 are no longer there. So I apologize for not being one of the 10 Million Sony fans, but my full friends list on Live will keep me playing COD4 and many others for a long time.
deaftly @ Feb 29th 2008 10:28AM
Actually the 360 controller is better suited for FPS games. The ps3's horrible over sized slippery analogs are flat out a bitch to use. Don't even get me started on the triggers.
Co @ Feb 29th 2008 10:34AM
Yea Deaftly, I guess the 360 controller is better suited for FPSs than the DualShocks... but that's like saying a rock is better suited for a pillow than broken glass.
Stef Geiger @ Feb 29th 2008 11:20AM
To me it seems like designers have the WRONG idea about controllers. As "authentic" a trigger that has a lot of swing IS, it really reduces how quickly you can fire. I can't STAND PS3 games that force you to use R2 as the fire button. Never mind the fact that you WOULD use your index finger to pull a trigger, so the higher shoulder button makes more sense. That all being said, the 360 controller is nice, and has great rumble, but I much prefer the PS3 controller.
