The announcement of Gears of War 2 last week during GDC was a little bit like when your drunk uncle acknowledges the growth on your aunt's face. Yes, everyone knew it was there. But now we can all finally exhale and just talk about it. That's exactly what voice actor John DiMaggio (you know, Marcus Fenix's voice box) did this week with IGN.
It's not exactly megaton-rich, but DiMaggio did let it slip that the Brumak will return, as will Franklin the head of the stranded. Also, expect some new weapons (we're hoping for a musket with hedge clippers attached to it).

Fighting him was a PC only thing I think. I wonder what benefits PC owners will have by waiting for this title. Should be cool.

Hell, I can get the PC version for $9 shipped thanks to MS Retail Training program (this is also where I got most of my first party MS games... $9 for Mass Effect for the win). I quit my retail job long ago (before 360 shipped) but I'm still part of that beautiful program.
Wish Nintendo and Sony would follow suite with that.

Sheppy, I will go ahead and extend a belated thanks to you for pointing out that program here a year back or so.
I've never held one of these retail jobs, but as you know it is pretty easy to sign up and get in on the action.
I'm floored that Mass Effect popped up so quick. It's not a Microsoft development house, and it's a AAA title. If I kept it in my pants for 30 more days, I could have saved $51 bucks.

Usually it's a couple month delay until the MS published games drop on. Doesn't have to be first party, just has to be published by MS. Third parties occassionally drop extra copies in the program as well from time to time.
So if patience is a bit up your alley, Lost Odyssey should be dropping on sometime in the next month or two. This is also where I snagged my copies of Forza 2, PGR4, and Blue Dragon. I really, really, REALLY wish Nintendo and Sony would institute a similar program and in a way, they do. Except you answer propaganda questionaires like the MS training program and your completed quizzes count towards raffles. And considering it's like "We have 100 copies of Professor Layton" in a site with 70K registered members, kinda seems a waste of time. truth be told, this program sold me my first Xbox. Not because I wanted it, but basically I built up a library of Xbox games before I even had the system. That's also why I keep adding to my 360 collection despite selling my five time died 360. I'll have games to play once I get a Jasper (and I can even finish Bioshock! WooT!).
Anyone else wanting to know what we're talking about, here it is.

It's basically a program set up long ago to try and educate retail workers about Xbox. If you get a job at a place that sells video games or PC software, you're elidgable. You log in and fill out quizes based on MS products or the 360 in general and these points can be used towards software, t-shirts, etc. Pretty much MS published things. It usually shows up in these channels a couple months after launch date (Mass Effect dropped in that channel early Jan). So all you have to do is educate yourself about the MS brand, and you get damn near free games (Halo 3 for $9, for example).

Sorry John, but you had nothing to work with here. The dialog in Gears is trash.
Maybe Gears 2 will be better on this front, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

That's the whole fucking point. What were you expecting some intelligent dialogue about the meaning of life? GoW is about muscular men in fucking big ass armor kicking fucking ass. I think it would make sense for the dialogue to reflect that.

Thank you Vegeta,at least someone gets it. It's about big, angry, badass soldiers who use a grunt as a reply and eats slop from a bowl after a day of machine-gunning and chainsawing locust. The dialogue is intentional.
I'm sure these people were the same one's complaining that the movie Grindhouse was "totally cheese and lame".

Nope, but after hearing about their big important writer hired onto the project to give depth to the story and characters, you'd figure they could at LEAST reach the depth of the fairly shallow cast in Aliens. Especially after MS went and advertised the game like this...

Wow, this is some kind of circular thing going on.
First the stereotype of the big dumb soldier/mercenary spouting one-liners is created by (Hollywood) writers. Now you say that a game need to be true to how soldiers act, meaning big, dumb and spouting one-liners.
I don't really agree. Interesting writing always improves a game. Just because there's a stereotype out there that would let you get away with crappy writing doesn't mean that need to restrict yourself to playing to it.
Portal is just a prisoner running around with a gun, there's no reason they had to break out of the mold in terms of writing. But the game was 100x better because they did.

"It's badass. In fact, I saw some of the stuff yesterday! Which level was it? It was, well listen, there's bigger beasts in this game. Bigger beasts."
I swore that said "there's bigger breasts in this game. Bigger breasts."
John DiMaggio is sure awesome. That would have made him a little more awesome, though.

I bought GOW and very frankly in my opinion, it's a mediocre game. The storyline isn’t interesting, an the characters have no charisma, substance: -"yhea baby", wtf.
The game it's too short, and Lancer it’s the only weapon that really makes the difference on the battle field.
The Sniper is rubbish, and the Hammer of Dawn is too stupid (hammer of dawn is off-line lol), you can only use in predefined moments …
Some bad guys like the Bezerkers are completely useless, they only attack brainlessly forward, and there are allot of enemy clones as well.
The driving sequence was so hilarious bad, that just remembering it makes my head hurt lol, and the krill, what the hell is that?
The on-line one of the best features of this the game, as some flaws, like being one "big party" celebrating the good use of lancer's saw to kill adversary in a easy way cool. : S
Colecting Cog Tags is boring Epic, I want my money back!
