Jack Thompson offers to help EA with Take-Two takeover
Last week, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello revealed an offer put forward to Take-Two Interactive executive chairman Strauss Zelnick to buyout T2 for nearly $2 billion. Zelnick expediently and publicly shot down the offer, though this battle of the peculiar last names was far from over -- since then we've heard that other companies took interest in T2 after EA was shot down, though certain industry analysts believe EA will eventually win out. Yesterday brought news of a new player on the field that could tip the battle in EA's favor -- Enter: Jack Thompson!
Yes, everyone's favorite Floridian moralist (and T2 shareholder) recently threw his support behind Electronic Arts in an impassioned letter, saying he would help "evict the Zelnick Trojan Horse from within Take-Two's corporate walls". We think that EA and J.T. would be strange bedfellows, given Thompson's denunciation of Sims 2 a few years back -- though his uncustomary defense of Mass Effect might have rebuilt that once-burnt bridge. How about it, EA? Is your raid on Take-Two LFM?

Anyone with a couple of neurons could see that the Mass Effect controversy was total press BS. It wasn't really that big of a surprise that J.T. 'threw his support' behind it. If I recall, he didn't even do that- he just didn't see why it was controversial given the audience and story context. Though... one could wonder if he initially wanted to jump all over Mass Effect until he saw what all the fuss was actually about.

Jack knows that if EA takes over T2, the "bad stuff" will be taken out from the next games. EA is too big of a company to risk it on such a game as GTA.

I just think Jack is pissed because he can't finish any of the T2 games. But why, why the hell does he have such a grudge with Rockstar, I mean why just them, other companies have made games similar to GTA, and some even worse. I think that if your gonna attack a game, then at least attack the copycats too. Sure, he gets Manhunt 2 watered down for violence, yet The Darkness shows you devouring hearts. Why just R*?
As for my views on EA buying T2, I think it won't happen, but if it does, then R* will at least get to remain as an independent.
Jack, your fighting a lost cause. Give up, or attack other companies, not just rockstar or take 2.

Those saying we should just ignore him. Yeah that didn't work. Why? Because the mainstream media would also have to have ignored him. And as we all know he used it to his advantage while we ignored him. No, no, that wasn't a smart idea. We should have countered him at every turn so the mainstream media would ignore him and then we could also then ignore him. Remember, he may be crazy, but he's smart enough to get attention to those who decry us the most. Joystiq ignoring him doesn't mean Fox or CNN will.
